It’s official, Lindsay Lohan is going to play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick. The movie will be about the love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Rumors have been flying that Lifetime wasn’t going to use Lindsay based on her crappy past, but looks like our little trainwreck prevailed. I wonder how long it’ll take before she falls off the wagon…Looking forward to some trainwreck action!
Lifetime’s press release on the show:
Los Angeles, CA (April 23, 2012) – Lindsay Lohan is set to star as the legendary Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime Original Movie Liz & Dick, based on the true story of the screen icon’s historic romance with actor Richard Burton. Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles, it was announced today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks.
For nearly a quarter of a century, Taylor and Burton were Hollywood royalty and their fiery romance — often called “the marriage of the century” — was the most notorious, publicized and celebrated love affair of its day. Swarmed by paparazzi, Taylor and Burton’s love affair was played out entirely in front of the global press from the time they met on the set of the major motion picture Cleopatra, left their respective spouses, married and divorced, only to remarry and divorce once again. Despite their roller coaster romance for the public eye to see, Taylor and Burton shared an undeniable love greater than most people could have ever dreamed.
Regarding the announcement, Lohan said, “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”
“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” added Sharenow. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”
Liz & Dick will be produced by Larry A. Thompson Productions, Inc. Larry A. Thompson (Amish Grace, Lucy & Desi) will serve as executive producer, with Christopher Monger (Temple Grandin) writing.
Elizabeth is probably rolling in her grave! THANK God for second chances millionth chances…
If you like it, spread it!:

I just don’t see it. Who is playing Dick?
Dear Lifetime,
I rebuke and refuse you for this fuckery.
Sincerely,

If anyone is capable of pulling off a haunting it is the woman who was both Cleopatra and Virginia Wolff. Liz is going to make their lives a living hell.
LiLo actually looks really pretty in the pic, you know, for a 42-year-old.
Fuck that noise.
Lindsay is one of the worst actresses of her generation. Most generations, even. I’ve tried to give her chance after chance, but every single time I ever see her on screen she sounds like Lindsay Lohan reading lines she memorized only a short time before the cameras started rolling. Never has she been believable in one role, with the possible exception of when she was a young kid, playing 2 young kids.
I just feel like Liz deserves better.
riiight. like she’ll show up on time and ready enough to actually film. hopefully they have a plan b. its sad b/c she could have been so hot for such along time, but she decided to go all drug whorey.
Well…….sure that Lindsay was a cheap hire. Gross.
It’s Strifetime
Um, Elizabeth Taylor was BEAUTIFUL. Lindsay Lohan has aged 25 years since 2006 and she is not even close to being as gorgeous as Liz. Ick,.
And I think she’s a dreadful actress. Not the worst in her generation – I’ll hand that honor to Hilary Duff, with Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus coming very close behind – but pretty bad. I read an article where she says – and I quote – “I know I’m a damn good actress.” I choked on the Coke I was drinking.
This is Lifetime. The same people who brought us “Mother, May I Please Sleep With Danger”. I’m not too concerned here.
@Crockpot – she’s not a cheap hire at all. The reason she kept losing roles these past few years (besides the obvious problems) is that she costs too much to insure. She’s a liability, not an asset.
If this were a film/mini-series on HBO, then that’d be one thing. But LiLo is going to be on Lifetime. Mutha. F**kin’. Lifetime. You know who else has been in Lifetime Original Movies? Denise Richards. You know what other completely-not-Emmy-or-Golden-Globe-winning films have been Lifetime Original Movies? “My Stepson, My Lover.” “Cyber Seduction: His Secret Life.” “Baby Monitor: Sound of Fear.” (I shit you not. It existed. And of course, it starred Josie Bissett.) “Calendar Girl, Cop, Killer? The Bambi Bembenek Story.” Now, that last one DOES sound like a nice vehicle for Lindsay Lohan to star in to get herself back in the old Hollywood game. Whatever, Linds.
While Lindsay Lohan may possibly be a better actress than some of her contemporaries (why, oh why do people insist on *still* casting Katie Holmes in ANYTHING?), she’s nothing to write home about. And to still have a huge ego about her “talent” when she should be humble as f**k is infuriating. I’ll admit it — I was a pretty big fan of her during her whole “Freaky Friday” transitioning into “Mean Girls” phase, but she’s been unapologetic and narcissistic for far too long for me to ever be interested again.
Even if this is a Lifetime movie, I agree with iamrufus, Liz deserves better. That woman was gorgeous personified and endured way more pain than Lindsay with grace and pinache (and drugs and booze). Ugh. They better photoshop her ass to the hilt, because she couldn’t hold a matchstick to Mz. Taylor.
Oh day-am! I have to wash my hair that night. Can’t see it.
I guess Tory Spelling was busy!
Well, this disappointment is right on par for Lifetime, the network that brought us “The Pregnancy Pact” and about a billion “absused-stalked-kidnapped-pseudo-brave-woman” movies.
Bottom line: Liz was a gorgeous icon. Poor Lindsay is a train-wreck who hasn’t made a good movie since puberty. I call WTF on this casting.
Rosie O doesn’t think Lindsey Lohan should play Liz Taylor. However, it turns out I care so little about Rosie’s opinion I decided it was too much effort move my hand 3/4 of an inch and click with one finger.
I don’t care what anyone says, if Dean Cain plays Richard Burton this will be awesome!
They should bring back “screen tests” like the good old days….. but this is just a made-for-TV movie. I agree with everyone else. Elizabeth Taylor deserves so much more.
I’m still laughing at Sardini’s comment. Hee!
Maybe the cast will refer to Lindsay as “Elizabeth Taylor Goldenblatt”.
Shock value? Hope people will tune in to see how awful it will be?
