Sarah’s “master plan” was to force the DWTS producers to hire Bristol and then to force Bristol to accept the “invitation” so that Sarah could possibly win the presidential election in 2012?
I sometimes get confused about the popular narrative for Sarah Palin. She’s either a genius, master manipulator, or she’s an idiot who can’t rub two sticks together. Please, people, pick one and stick with it!
How I love political theatre.
I’d shudder to think she’s a master manipulator. If so, she’d have found a way to spin Bristol’s pregnancy into a positive light in 2008. AS IF that was the reason they lost.
And you believe everything you read on some assholes blog. Come on. use your brains moron
Nah. I don’t buy this. I need my outrageous conspiracy theories to come from sources either more credible or A LOT more freaky than Margaret Cho.
What JC said. This is just more Palin hate from a crazy leftie.
C’mon, there is plenty to despise about Palin and her intellectually vacant presence in the world of politics (North Korea? Really?). No need to channel the sad wingnut Victoria Jackson with a crazy conspiracy theory.
Hmm, Palin as a control freak? Hmm. Hard to … well, yeah, okay, I buy it.
But really, why in the world would anyone choose Bristol Palin for this show if it wasn’t toward some manipulative end? The show’s called “Dancing with the Stars”, and this little hussy isn’t exactly a star. Nor a dancer. Nor particularly attractive or interesting.
She’s known for two things: Being stupid enough to get knocked up at the age of 16. And being unfortunate enough to be born to one of the most frightening political figures since Joe McCarthy. Well, okay, Dany Quayle.
So clearly there was manipulation involved putting her on this show. If only from ABC, knowing full well the controversy it would cause– and reaping the ratings (and advertising bucks) as a result.
Meantime, EVERYTHING Palin does is about media manipulation. So suck it. She’s become quite good at it. Even if most of the media are playing along only because she’s so damn laughable (i.e., she sells papers/magazines/advertising time).
But I don’t hate Palin. I hate the people who somehow think that this person should hold any kind of political office. Much less be their ‘voice.’
Thanks, itchy. Your comments are one more reason I’ll vote for Sarah if she runs for POTUS.
Hater.
Wow, Itchy, harsh.
While I am no Palin supporter, I do find something interesting about Bristol. Maybe it’s the underdog effect, I don’t know. I also think she’s very attractive. She may not have the fake boobs, overly tanned, anorexic look of dead eyed, dumb as a doornail Audrina, but i also think she seemed fairly intelligent. No one should be judged on the mistakes they made at 16 years old. And going into the show I had at least heard of her, which is more than I can say for a lot of Disney/Soap Actor/Reality Personalities they’ve cast in the past. Let’s be real real, “star” has always been used very loosely on this program. Hell, we know the pros better than some of the “stars” at this point.
“Let’s be real real, “star” has always been used very loosely on this program.”
We’ve also begun to use the term “politician” very loosely. IMO (Jesus, I hate using Internet shorthand) Sarah Palin simply isn’t worth getting too upset over. She’s a personality that is currently in a disgusting whore/pimp relationship with the media. She wasn’t taken seriously in the last election and she hasn’t done anything to be taken in the next. We survived Spenser and Heidi, we’ll survive the MILF-y Wolf Huntress.
Think about it, do you really “hate” her, or do you just shake your head in bemusement. She’s not Tyra, she’s more Paris. She got elected in Alaska, not New York or Massachusetts(no offense, Alaska. My house would be pretty cold without all that black, black gold you produce).
Ok, a couple of things. First, I think Todd Palin needs to go hunting with Dick Cheney. Second, don’t call me a moron, Moron. And third. ex-SNLer Victoria Jackson would be an excellent choice for the show. Come on ABC, there’s a butt load of people out there to choose from! Lots of peeps from the past that would draw plenty of viewers. The Brady kids alone would be good for a few seasons.
Every time I hear someone crack on the girl for getting knocked up it burns me. Many girls and women get pregnant in less than ideal situations or while too young. I too once got grief for getting pregnant as a single woman at the wrong time (1st year of law school) and was on receiving end of comments like “oops” and “THAT had to be an accident.”
I’m not taking up for Bristol’s DWTS performance or for her mother or the GOP. What I am saying is that knocking someone just for getting pregnant is tantamount to knocking them for not having an abortion–I would wager that many politicians’ daughters and first year law students get pregnant-they just handled it differently.
In a country where abortion is still a choice, I don’t see why we can’t also validate and be supportive of women who make the choice to continue their pregnancies.
Unless it’s fair to start outing public figures for how many abortions they’ve had then I don’t see what an unplanned pregnancy in itself proves about her character other than that she personally decided an abortion would compound a prior bad choice with another.
Sarah Palin believes is opposed to teaching birth control use in schools and she supports abstinence-only education. While I’m not commenting on Bristol’s teen pregnancy, it is interesting her daughter ended up a teen mom. She could have used some sex ed to include birth control and condoms.
I guess Sarah Palin was so captivated by the view of Russia from her house that she didn’t think to educate her daughter.
*crap typing too fast. Should read “Palin is opposed”
What you said, notwithoutmytv and VRoxas.
“She got elected in Alaska, not New York or Massachusetts.”
Please. Don’t try to sell me that MA and NY are somehow superior. I live in Massachusetts, and the people in this state are blithering idiots when it comes to politics. They re-elected Barney Frank…the man whose boyfriend ran a prostitution ring out of Barney’s living room. The man who told us Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were strong, and there was no problem. They elected John “I don’t even pay taxes on my multi-million dollar yacht” Kerry. They voted AGAINST lowering the exorbitant sales tax. They elected a man to the state house whose wife the WEEK BEFORE THE ELECTION was convicted on RICO charges. They give illegal immigrants welfare and free college tuition. The welfare cards pay for alcohol. Most residents have no problem with Auntie Zetunie getting free housing for years after she was supposed to have left the country. I have never lived among such asinine left-thinking fools in my entire life…not even in college. And don’t get me started on the fools who in habit New York. I would much sooner trust the judgment of those who live in Alaska…most of whom understand the basic concept of working for what you receive.
“In a country where abortion is still a choice, I don’t see why we can’t also validate and be supportive of women who make the choice to continue their pregnancies.”
Well said, VRoxas.
What would be a sensation is if Margret Cho (who really likes Bristol as a person) started dating Bristol. Now, THAT would be a story. They could become the hot couple of the moment and you know both of them want the media attention. [Well, Cho does. I'm not sure about Bristol.]
I’m amazed that barely a day goes by without the Palins in the news.
While the yarn Cho is spinning is a bit much, I don’t think it’s out of the realm to think that DWTS went to Sarah to participate, since they already had Tom DeLay on and she deferred “suggesting” that Bristol get cast instead. Then she convinced Bristol to do it to further the family’s fame.
Sarah’s been on a two year campaign to become the face of…well, Sarah Palin. She’s becoming a brand and she’s using her family to further that brand. They all benefit from it, so she likely told Bristol she was doing the show. I doubt any of this has anything to do with 2012, just making sure that more money comes into the Palin coffers.
“Unless it’s fair to start outing public figures for how many abortions they’ve had then I don’t see what an unplanned pregnancy in itself proves about her character other than that she personally decided an abortion would compound a prior bad choice with another.”
Good point. If every unplanned pregnancy ended in childbirth we’d see just how common it is. But, as so many women ‘fix’ the ‘problem’ before anyone knows about it, we only have the statistic of ‘unplanned pregnancies that resulted in children’ to go on. I’m sure the percentage of women getting knocked up is a lot higher and also indiscriminate of age, education, or social status.
@Beachgal: Having a daughter who is a teen mom should be a reason to teach sex-ed to other children. That is crazy if Palin thinks kids shouldn’t be taught how to protect themselves. She was most likely teaching ‘abstinence-only ed’ in the house and look what good that did. I guess Levi was a better instructor. Or his class was more interesting. It’s always better to learn hands-on, is what I always say.
Look, if her mother wasn’t some holier-than-thou “I know what YOUR values should be” creep, Bristol’s being pregnant wouldn’t even register on my radar.
It’s the whole hypocrisy thing. But yeah, I’m hoping NWMTV is right, Palin’s just another in a long series of loud blips on the American political landscape.
As long as people keep shopping, we’ll be just fine.
Oh, and by the way, and just for future reference: being called “Hater” just makes me giggle, in a 5th grade kind of way.
@cattyfan – bravo,bravo! Well said. I agree completely!
Oh and I got all swept up it in my own righteousness and forgot what I meant to write in the first place:
Margaret Cho – not classy! That old “unnamed sources in the clubhouse” bit is so tacky.
I don’t care for Palin (Sarah) but I’m also not ready to buy into a DWTS political conspiracy theory. I’m not sure if I completely buy into Cho’s story, but even if it’s somewhat true, how f*ckin’ savvy is that? Listen, from what I know about the show, the audience votes had to have been HUGE in order to get her in 3rd place, as she is arguably the worst contestant that has made it that far. Seeing as how she has done little more than be a politician’s daughter who became a teenage mom, I am guessing the majority of her votes came from SP supporters. ABC knew having Bristol on would get people yapping, & SP knew she could use it as a barometer to gauge her popularity. It was a win/win for them. I wouldn’t be suprised if Sarah didn’t force her to be on, but encouraged it completely for her own ulterior motives. Seriously, for the kind of voter turn out shows like DWTS & Idol have, who wouldn’t use it if they could?
On the other hand, I also think Bristol went a little Levi this past year, working her own 15 minutes. Why else would she attempt to act, which from what I heard was even worse than her dancing? Or allow the media back in to the reconciliation with Levi? I think she loves the spotlight as much as mom, so I don’t think she was forced at all. Holy shit, I just spent way too much time discussing this.
Cattyfan – couldn’t agree more on your assessment of the politics in Massachusetts!
I live in Massachusetts. So you don’t need to waste all those characters describing my state of residence to me.
My point was that New York and Massachusetts have produced a lot more presidents than Alaska has. So calm down and let’s get back to picking on full-figured young unwed mothers who may or may not be the victim of a horrible forced-dancing conspiracy, which may or may not have had the lid blown off it by a fat, crude, loud-mouthed, low-brow, blog-enabled comediene.
I think I’ll start my own conspiracy blog. I’ve always believed that Oprah was conceived with Satan’s sperm and one of Shiva’s ova. And nothing good can come of THAT.
Hm. I don’t consider myself a hater.
On the other hand, I want my Presidents to be smarter than me. Which, all things considered, isn’t that hard.
Unfortunately, Palin doesn’t appear to pass that test. I really don’t care about her daughter’s baby daddy drama or if everybody in her home town hates or her not or even if she were a Satanist (or worse, an Avon salesperson). I just need her to be bright enough that her hand on the nuclear button doesn’t make me want to drink heavily every night.
Which, not coincidently, is why I can’t really remember a lot of the Bush administration. I can, however, mix a hell of an appletini these days.
I have 3 comments:
1) The ONLY reason I don’t believe this story is because Palin, herself, has shown me (via her TV show) what LITTLE control she has over her children. I can’t imagine she could ‘force’ them into anything when her youngest calls her Sarah and Willow’s BF feels ok going directly upstairs after being told not to.
2) Just because Palin’s her mom, doesn’t mean they have the same beliefs on everything. My mom is a dem, I’m not.
3)Comment #12 from VRoxas is some of the most intelligent logic I have heard in a long time.. the highlights: “In a country where abortion is still a choice, I don’t see why we can’t also validate and be supportive of women who make the choice to continue their pregnancies”….”What I am saying is that knocking someone just for getting pregnant is tantamount to knocking them for not having an abortion–”…Thank you for your intellect.
To me, the point of Palin being the Governor of Alaska as opposed to, say, Massachusetts, is that Alaska has such a small population. Being Mayor of Boston or New York is much more challenging. Alaska has relatively few people and a small budget compared to most other states, and yet it was too much for her and she had to quit.
@sarcasatire hahaha at Levi being a better teacher. He probably told her the pull out method worked and she believed him because his way was more fun
Just checked. Alaska has less than 700,000 people total. Man, there are more than that here in the metro area of Tucson, Arizona.
I totally buy this. You don’t have to be incredibly intelligent to be controlling and pissy. I’ve always thought Palin uses her kids to promote her public image.
But don’t all politicians do that? If you’ve got photogenic progeny, you trot those kids out as many times as possible. Improbably hot wife? Never let yourself be photographed WITHOUT her by your side. Handicapped child? PR GOLDMINE!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, to some degree–but she has gone over and beyond what any other politician, be they liberal or conservative, has done in using their kids as part of the scheme.
It’s gone over and beyond because Palin explotes her kids to promote her public image, but cries foul about them being exploted by others when it backfires on her (for example, a pregnant 16 year old daughter).
I can recall any other politician whoring their children for PR as heavily as Palin does. And I’ve been around the block a couple of times.
Meanwhile, Palin’s raking in millions for having done…what?
“Meanwhile, Palin’s raking in millions for having done…what?”
Had the pleasure of making Katie Couric look like an actual investigative reporter.
