Coming off the announcement of Disney buying LucasFilm LTD. for $4.05 billion, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that they’ll be releasing three more Star Wars films. He said, “Episode 7 will be released in 2015, the first under the Disney/Lucas banner,” and then they will follow with episode 8 and 9. George Lucas will serve as a creative consultant on the next three films. After they release episodes 7, 8, and, 9, Disney plans to put out new Star Wars films, “every two to three years.” Yikes!

It’s crazy that Disney purchased LucasFilm for that much money…I mean good for LucasFilm, but why on earth are they putting out so many Star Wars films? They’re diluting the brand. To put out that many films is overkill. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Star Wars, but I feel like the last three films weren’t that great, so hearing this news doesn’t have me jumping out of my seat…I have very low expectations. Plus, because it’s Disney, do you think Star Wars will lose it’s edge?? Hoping for the best!

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Less Jar Jar and more Buzz Lightyear in the Star Wars universe!

Curious: Why does everyone hate Jar Jar? I absolutely love him!

Aside from the very stereotypical accent and blatant pandering to kids for marketing purposes, he is really an annoying character. Adds nothing to the story, and tries to be comedic to zero effect. In the first three movies, C3PO and R2D2 were the “narrators” so to speak. They were the common thread that united groups of people and advanced the story. I guess Luca was trying to duplicate that with Jar Jar but it was horribly done. I think he was forced to dial the character back after all the backlash. That is my take.

I actually think Disney can get “Star Wars” right – goodness knows they do an amazing job of marketing and branding and such in the parks already. I’m excited! :D

Great. Now Disney can ruin something else. I with they’d leave Star Wars alone. It’s perfect as-is.

The new trilogy will be about DoDo Fett, Jango’s slightly less talented younger brother. DoDo and his partner, the ewok bounty hunter “Fuzzy” Killpow, kidnap and ransom Bail “Yoda’s Wheel Man” Oragana. Following the Star Wars routine, DoDo and Fuzzy bounce around to different planets, including Dantooine, Kessel (where prison shower hijinks ensue), Suliman’s Transgalactic Freighter Stop, and Kokk’s Moon.

Fuzzy’s amusing schtick is that he keeps saying “I have a bad feeling about this” in Ewokeese.

Disney is already working with me on my treatment. They want me to replace the prison shower-Ewok rape scene with a bunch of prison guard droids slipping and prat-falling on soap, but I’ve told them I will not alter my artistic vision.

Not for the fucking Mouse House, not for anybody.

Well I hate that it’s Disney but I think it will make them lots of money and they have got marketing down pat. Remember. This isn’t for us, it’s for our kids who aren’t cynical yet. My 10 year old is a Star Wars nut and can’t wait. He also faithfully watches the clone wars cartoon

All that being said…the story line for the films is actually fairly well written. Even the really bad round two episodes 1 – 3 were great story lines, just horribly cast and even more horribly special effected to death.

I think Disney has the wheelhouse to produce some quality entertainment from this franchise…as long as they don’t let it get Lucas-inated.

I like Star Wars just fine, and the only one I didn’t like was Episode 1.

My question is, what “edge” do SW films have that Disney can ruin?

They put out Tron: Legacy, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Prince of Persia: SoT, John Carter, and had a hand in The Avengers. Not all of those were amazing movies, but at the same time, given the right story, whether Disney has them or not is inconsequential.

Jimbob said it before I had the chance — the Star Wars series has always been more campy than edgy (maybe with the exception of the Clone Wars miniseries on Cartoon Network).

I mean, everyone does realize – right – that there were always suppose to be 9 movies? It’s not like Disney is creating Episodes 7, 8, 9… George Lucas already had the plan for those since 4, 5, 6 came out…

Getting to the important questions. Uh, when was the last time George Lucas was married? Does he have any kids that he personally sired? [I think he has 3 adopted kids.] Why is there no woman in his life?

Nads put on your investigative hat and give us answers to those questions. You know, Flipit might need a mentor.
