Obama Remembers Being Born

obama hawaii birth

Obama made his first appearance on Oprah since becoming President, and squashed the birth certificate rumors. He joked to Oprah that he remembers being born in the U.S. It’s kind of ridiculous that he had to prove that, but it is what it is. How could Trump (among many) say he wasn’t born in the U.S.? The dude has been vetted up, down, and sideways–of course he was born in America. And honestly, who cares???

In case anyone’s wondering, I was born in Los Alamitos, California. But I refuse to show my birth certificate, cuz I lied about my weight.

His interview airs May 2nd.

Here’s a sneak peek:

I love conspiracy theories. I haven’t found anyone that I know that doesn’t believe he was born in the US but if someone doesn’t believe it can you tell me why? I would love to hear that logic.

I never doubted that he was born in the US, but what I would like to know is why he waited so long to show the dang thing? What was the big deal? When John McCain was required to show both long and short form, he just showed them. The article I read said that not only was the long form released, but also a copy of the letter sent to Hawaii asking for it. The letter was dated April 22, 2011. Why wait so many years if it was so quick and easy to get?

Just to clarify what I meant above, if he had just showed it years ago when it first became an issue, the issue would have been squashed. But by refusing to do so, he gave the conspiracy legs.

He did show what Hawaii considers a “birth certificate” before the election, but since it didn’t have that name because Hawaii doesn’t call them “birth certificates”, that’s what the birthers were hanging on to. This new thing actually has much less legal meaning than the certificate he produced YEARS ago.

And this conspiracy has nothing to do with legality. They’ll find something else to hang onto, and most of it is thinly veiled in racism. Trump’s new “how did he get into an Ivy League school” kick is so blatantly an accusation of affirmative action at work, it’s pathetic.

I agree with @snootchy bootches — I never doubted that Obama was born in the US, but I do have relatives(elderly) that did. When I would ask why would they believe he wasn’t born in HI, they would always point to the fact that Obama refused to give up the long form as proof he was trying to hide ‘something’.
This should have ended a long, long time ago.

Obama could have handled this years ago. Along comes Trump to give the questions publicity and Obama folded. He gave Trump a clear victory. Trump made the most powerful man in the world capitulate by doing nothing more than giving a few TV interviews. Makes Obama look like the inexperienced leader that he is.

Frankly, my take is that it’s like showing a kid an empty cookie jar to prove there are no cookies and shut him up. I was kind of hoping the birth certificate thing would go on a lot longer since it was so utterly ridiculous to even consider it an issue.

Wow JC, when you put in like that, Donald Trump immediately elevates from a cartoonish buffoon to a clearly superior presidential candidate who could easily beat that dilettante Obama!

I vote for my presidents based on how good they look on TV. I saw Trump gassing about how he’d stand up to OPEC the other day, and that ORANGE TOAD is not somebody I want to see constantly popping up on my screen.

This whole issue just boggles my mind and makes me sad about us as a country. We no longer think for ourselves. If it’s on Wikipedia, it must be true!

When Obama showed his birth certificate originally, it’s the only one that Hawaii issued. But that wasn’t good enough for the right wing kooks. Then it was, why doesn’t he provide the long form? Short answer, the one that’s been given over and over again, Hawaii doesn’t issue the long form certficate. He had to get a waiver from the state government to get it.

Now, it’s intimating he didn’t earn his degree honestly. I just wish one of these people making these accusations would just says what’s really on their mind. Obama is black and his father was Muslim and that scares the s4!* out of them.

Can we now move on to more important things, like what’s Charlie Sheen up to?

Grrr…like I’ve said to everyone within earshot! It was not up to Obama to release his birth certificate. It was up to the state of Hawaii!!!! He actually had to seek legal counsel to see what he could do to get Hawaii to release the long form. The only reason Hawaii agreed to do it is because of the large number of requests they received that was actually disrupting them from getting any legitimate work done. If he had forced his “presidential hand” to make Hawaii release the form, people would have bitched that he was circumventing state laws for his personal benefit.

If you want to criticize the man about legitimate things he has done…fine! Its part of the job of being president. But to just be shooting nonsense out of your ass is just ridiculous. Donald Trump is known for being an ass so I expect nothing less from him. I am appalled at the media for given this stupid nonsense attention. Donald reminds me of some folks I know: never one to let silly things like FACTS, LOGIC, and COMMON SENSE get in the way of a good argument!

The sheer absurdity of the situation just baffles me. I think to question his legitimacy is also to question the entire government’s due diligence because if were truly not eligible then not only did Obama lie, the FBI failed to do their job! We have seen time and time again that every dark secret politicians have come to light during campaigning. They were able to find out the man smoke pot but not where he was born… give me a break.

A friend of mine on FB had a joke going that now there is a new movement starting, The After-Birthers…they are demanding to see the actual placenta of his birth. That’s the only thing that have made me smile.

I stopped watching celebrity apprentice because I wanted to punch the TV when that combed over orange buffoon came on my screen. ENOUGH WITH THIS SHIT!! @2hyper, well said. Especially when you pointed out that the implication that Obama is not an American citizen meant that not only did he lie, but so did the FBI and anyone else who investigated him during his campaign. Sorry, that doesn’t wash. But, trust me, there will always be an thinly veiled attempt to discredit Obama, not based on his policies, but on fear mongering and racism. I can’t wait until they start calling him Barack Hussein Obama again, emphasis on Hussein.

Oh, and he graduated magna cum laude at Harvard Law, they don’t give those out to fill quotas, Trump, they’re earned, my dear. Unlike you, inheriting your father’s wealth and mismanaging funds until you need to file bankruptcy every few years. Do you really think we’d trust you with the nation’s funds? JC, you can legitimately dislike the President’s policies and disagree with him, but to sit here and pretend that this nonsense over his birth certificate is based on anything other than racism is ridiculous. I didn’t vote for Bush, but I didn’t sit around wondering about his birth records or his academic records. I could legitimately question his agenda without resorting to racially motivated attacks. That is the difference. Maybe you have never experienced having your legitimacy to attend a school or have a certain job, but I have. And I have no patience for the ingenue act that sheltered folks who have never had to walk in another shoes put on about how wrong we are to call it out when we see it.

Now, maybe in your mind the braying jackass act that Trump has perfected is impressive. Good for you and enjoy his show. But for most people with attached brain stems, the embarassment is more directed at the idiots in this country that have had free reign to clog up the airwaves with this distracting trivel.

The problem is Obama hasn’t released A LOT of information which other candidates and presidents have readily released. School records, tax records, and health records for Obama have all been kept secret…yet he still goes on about “transparency.” Obama himself, by being secretive, is feeding the nutty theories. He should just release his records like everyone else has and put an end to all the silly speculation.

It doesn’t help when he comes out with the birth certificate (finally) and makes comments about how he has so much more important things to do…then leaves the press conference to fly to Chicago to guest on Oprah, and to attend three fund-raisers. Obama contributes to much of his own bad press.

I would’ve let the issue get so big in the Birthers’ minds that during the 2012 campaign, it would’ve been their main gripe and all they would talk about. And at the first debate, I’d whip out my long form and watch them stutter as their argument falls apart, and then I’d politely ask, “anything else?”

It’s not that people don’t believe he went to college or to the doctor. Past presidents have been very open about their records.

Imagine what people would have said if Bush had kept everything a secret? As it was he gets called stupid…in spite of the fact he had better grades than John Kerry (who is supposedly considered to be smart.)

Obama is fueling rumors for no apparent reason. If he truly believes in transparency, and he wants to move on to more important topics, he should disclose his records as all other candidates and presidents have done. By keeping things secret, he has purposely opnend himself up to speculation as to what he’s hiding.

I would like to point out that the “short form” certificate of live birth is what all states issue now. Arizona doesn’t even have the long form and hasn’t for years. So when Obama released the short form in 2008, he was releasing what is accepted BY THE US GOVERNMENT and a legal birth certificate. The wack jobs refused to accept it.

Further, as to why now instead of “years ago?” Because now is when Republican state legislatures across the country are debating whether or not to amend their state Constitutions to require that all candidates for elected office, including the President, show their “official” birth certificate, ie not the short form certificate of live birth that Obama produced, to be eligible to be on the ballot. As many of those measures are gaining traction, and would likely prevent Obama from appearing on the ballot in 2012 without the long form birth certificate, there suddenly became a more urgent political need to shut these jackholes up.

And I don’t need to see the college grades of a magna cum laude graduate and Harvard Law Review editor to know he’s smart enough to have earned his way through both Columbia AND Harvard Law School.

If it is racist for people to want to see Obama’s long form birth certificate, was it also racist when the democratic party required John McCain to provide his long form? Or is it only racist when someone is black?

The democrats tried to deny John McCain the right to run for president because they said that he wasn’t a natural born citizen because he was born in Panama. They were wrong, of course, because his father was stationed there as a service member and both of his parents were citizens. But then they tried to say that he wasn’t eligible because he was born in a civilian hospital instead of a military hospital… nevermind the fact that most military hospitals, especially those outside the US, don’t have the facilities for it. But McCain was very open with his documents so that his accusers were left without a leg to stand on. His openness made it a non-issue. Obama should have done the same.

HAHA! “Tampon Huffer”! I have negative zero clue what that means, but I’m totally going to start using that! Has anyone else watched Traffic Light after Raising Hope? Two weeks (?) ago, one of the characters called people who pissed her off “bonebags,” “tampon huffer” reminded me of that, I do love me some made up insults. Thanks JC! PS Going forward whenever I see “JC” I won’t think of Jesus Christ, I’ll think “tampon huffer,” thanks?

@ cattyfan – Bush kept tons of personal info secret, or tried to, anyway. The difference is that he never touted transparency as a cornerstone of his political platform. Bush was no great president, regardless of his oppositions attempt to portray him as an imbecile. I certainly don’t think Obama is evil or an idiot. I think he’s just inexperienced in governing and that lack of experience is presenting itself more frequently as his administration continues.

@ LAC – Then I must apologize to you, also… I don’t feel insulted because I don’t think you have any authority in the matter. You’re opinion about things matters as much to me as my opinions do to you, I guess. The “tampon huffer” reference was meant to be an allusion to how ridiculous it is to automatically label someone a racist because they don’t agree with you or find fault with someone who is of a different “race”.

@ marijai – If Trump runs I may vote for him just for the slightest chance that he makes that statement!

@ thiajok – If that’s your idea of an insult… well, you need to try harder. I didn’t even know you were trying to insult me until you told me. Now that I know… eh, I still don’t care. I have to ask, though, are you this way with everyone who disagrees with your opinion about anything, or are you only this way with people who disagree with you on the internet?

@ sarcasatire – You *wish* somebody cared about your school records being released. I doubt you’ll release them, though; you’d rather encourage all the people who doubt you to continue to ask questions. I’d bet your records show that you were continuously reprimanded for improper grammar and statement omission.

Then you just look petty. I am suprised how many times arguments flair up on here and people quickly go for the cheap easy personal attacks. I welcome anyone to disagree with me with actual facts to my points (So far no one has!).

I am in agreement that Trump is an ass…although it might be funny to see him look at a cabinet member and say, “you’re fired”…while at the same time it wuld be sad to see the White House painted gold. As for his records not having been released, he’s not a candidate yet.

I would like to see Obama’s school records and writings released (as all past candidates and presidents have done) to give us better insight into how he became the man he is today. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to know (and know well) the man who is running our country.

For example, when Joe Biden ran for president years ago, his records were released…and it came to light that Biden is a plagiarist. This was an important fact to know. And I am curious…everyone says Obama is so brilliant. It would be interesting to know if his grades and writing bear that out, because his ability to govern sure haven’t.

So far, I hate all the people who seem to be in the running (or hinting at it) for the 2012 presidential elections…

@Rebecca – I understand it was stated that he couldn’t get the long form. And yet, he sent a letter on April 22 and was able to get it in less than 5 days. Clearly, it was possible.

@LAC – Yes the senate, including the democrats, voted to allow McCain. At that point, there were no grounds to refuse him. Had he refused to provide certain documents, I’m sure it wouldn’t have been as smooth. But my point was that the request was made of him because of politics not racism. Both political parties are exactly the same. They are filled with people who have given up their integrity (at least in part) in return for a public position. And both sides do the exact same dirty tricks and bullshit. Both sides have their crazy fringe element. And thinking that your party is somehow angelic while the other side is demonic is ridiculous and if you believe it, I’ll sell you a really nice bridge. It’s located in Brooklyn.

See, the problem I have with your comments (aside from the “we don’t know him” conspiracy sounding tone) is that you seem to want your obviously low opinion of Obama to be vindicated by some smoking gun in his transcripts, etc. And I think that it wouldn’t matter if we had his first grade grammar tests, people with your mindset are not going to change your mind about him. Just be honest about your feelings and stop pretending that there will ever be any objective evidence out there that will satisfy you.

He had to circumvent state law to do so and again it was up to Hawaii to grant the release. The final decision was not up to him. He made the request as eveyone else did and his request was granted by the state of Hawaii. It’s not like he called up the governor of Hawaii and said “hey, can you just give me a copy of my form so these people should not bothering me”. He had to follow a process and the Hawaii government had the final say. Why is this important tidbit left out of the discussion every time?! Its not like he had a copy in his back pocket and failed to show you. He didnt have a copy in his actual possession until now and to be honest, he shouldnt have had to do this. He followed the process every other candidate did and was granted permission..end of discussion!

Last I check I dont have access to Bush, or any other president’s birth certificate, grades, or first grade art project because it does not have any relevance to anything going on today.

One more time, and all together now: HE DID NOT HAVE THE POWER TO RELEASE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE, ONLY THE STATE OF HAWAII HAD THE POWER TO DO SO!

Snootchy, I just didn’t see the organized effort against McCain by a party. I am not naive – they may have winked at it, but at the time, the spotlight on Obama’s eligibility was on the table as well. And that the chamber could get together and at least be adults was something worth noting.

Politics is a dirty job – but at some point, someone has to step up, take the keys away from the inmates, put them back in their cells, and bring back the focus to actual issues. That the GOP leadership continues to dance around this nonsense, even against the advice of their operatives, is wrong. And bringing up McCain doesn’t make it any less wrong.

The two books Obama wrote were self-serving, and edited by people who manage his image (as ALL politicians’ books are.) I would like to see his unvarnished writings from college. I freely admit I have a very low opinion of Obama as a politician…a hold over from when I lived in Illinois, and he was serving there. Nothing he’s done as president has changed that opinion. That doesn’t mean there is “no point” to wanting to see his college grades and writings.

2Hyper…plenty was made of previous candidates’ and presidents’ writings and grades from their college days. No one is looking for a “first grade art project.” And I never said a word about Obama’s birth certificate, except that he could have put this whole thing to rest years ago when people first started kvetching (as evidenced by the ease with which he did so this week by simply writing a request, which was almost immediately granted.)

@cattyfan: Again you fail to acknowledge that the ultimate decision was not his to make. Hawaii had to grant the request. There are statements of the Hawaii government saying that this is not normal and the only reason they did so was to combat the enormous amount of requests the office had received, not because Obama asked! The largest amt of requests were bogging down the government’s ability to actually do their job.

It’s ironic that the people demanding this kind of nonsense are also the biggest flag-wavers out there. Ironic too that many of these same people had earlier suggested amending the Constitution in order to enable Schwarzenegger to run for president.

As for the notion that by waiting to release this document that Obama is somehow responsible for this witchhunt — a new low in America’s political process: pure hogwash.

I lay the blame for this squarely on the media, who have fanned the flames — because it sells advertisements — of a subject that should have been consigned squarely to the lunatic bin.

Personally, I couldn’t care less where he was born, how he was born, what his middle name is, whatever. I just do not enjoy most of his politics.

My whole point is that questioning a LEGAL document is unreal. I was born in New Hampshire and when I had to request mine A) it took almost 2 MONTHS to get to me (and I live like, 2 states over in NY which takes forever too) and B) all I could get was a short form live birth certificate. When my son was born, my husband and I got a short form and a long form birth certificate. Life goes on. I just know that the conspiracy theorists are going to come up with something else. I see how most of us have chosen not to engage the steadfast denials that some of the anti-Obama propoganda is tinged with racism because, frankly, it’s too ridiculous to even deny at this point. Of course, there are people who dislike him for his issues, which is fine..but others who just can’t seem to get past the color of his skin. I’m only bringing this up because I just remembered what happened a week ago and wonder if it’s been forgotten already.

Did you guys hear about the racist email that was sent out by that female politician? A Tea Party activist (surprise, surprise) and leader of the district of Orange County, CA (another shocker!) sent out an email 2 weeks which explains why Obama wouldn’t show his certificate. In the email, there is an image of Obama and his parents, depicted as chimpanzees, under the caption: “Now, you know why – no birth certificate!”

Marilyn Davenport is her name and she has not been asked to resign or even reprimanded that I’ve heard. Her response to the outrage was quite amusing, though: “Oh, come on! Everybody who know me knows that I am not a racist. I have friends who are black.”

    Wait..it gets better.

“In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half-black when I sent out the email.” (insert chuckles here)

Angela, I was hoping, that in the interest of our mostly civil discussion, that for this thread, we adopt a new tagline.

Fairfield, well to be specific, Wisteria Lane have more natural disasters in a year than most countries in a century. I had to let Desperate Housewives go the same path as Grey’s Anatomy to make room on the DVR for such riveting television like the Braxtons Family Values. Tamar is realityTVgold.com

2Hyper…you asked if my opinion was changed by the release of the birth certificate. If you’re asking did I believe he wasn’t a citizen, I was NEVER in that camp. So the release of the certificate didn’t have a bearing on that part of my opinion.

itchy said, “What you are demanding, in fact, is the sort of invasion of privacy that should make any self-respecting American — indeed any person who believes in the principles of liberty, democracy and justice — shudder in absolute horror.”

The release of the records I’ve mentioned is STANDARD PROCEDURE for the men and women who want to lead this country, and has been for decades. It is interesting that Obama has declined to be forthright with that type of information. Especially since things like his senior thesis isn’t classified…nor would anything he had written for the law journal for which he worked while in college. Yet there seem to be no examples of his writing available.

I would never view your children as “second class.” I also would never want the constitution changed to accomodate a foreign born citizen to be president. I cringe at the thought of President Terminator.

Many Presidential biography’s actually do have school transcripts and other incidental’s. We used to have an official biographer with each administration for the sole purpose of establishing a record of the President’s day to day calendar. Although I think George Washington had a publicist when the cherry tree story came out..

Being the President of the United States is a part of our history. We are a young country and need all the history we can get. Some folks may say that it is none of our buisness. Whatever he want’s to share with us should be good enough. I disagree. Put aside the fact that he “doesn’t have to” ..he is a historical figure in our country and those blanks that are there need to be filled.

I don’t know why asking for information automatically makes some a “racist” or a “birther” (even when the person asking for information – in this case me – NEVER QUESTIONED THE PERSIDENT’S BIRTH,) however, I thought I would post a few links to take you to the health records of previous presidents. (you’ll have to close the gaps to make the links work.)

George Bush (the elder) http://www.doctorzebra. com/prez/g41.htm

George Bush (the younger) http://www.doctorzebra.com /prez/g43.htm

In fact, this particular website details the health records of all the presidents…except Obama. His is just a cursory overview. It’s noted that instead of opening his lifetime records as the previous occupants of the White House was done, he merely submitted a singular page to cover 21 years of his life. It glosses over his chain smoking, and never mentions his drug use (which he has admitted) at all.

Here is a link to SAT scores and some college grades for Bush, Gore, and Kerry.

    www. insidepolitics.org /heard/heard32300.html

And here is an article about Biden’s plagiarism in which it says Biden requested a review of his records before they were released.

    www. nytimes.com /1987/09/17/us/biden-was-accused-of-plagiarism-in-law-school.html

It’s fairly obvious with a little research that the request for, and subsequent release of, records is expected, and has been done so in the past by candidates with little or no fuss. In the early years of this country, politicians proudly released their writings from the time prior to their elections. They used their positions in those papers to help campaign for election. Of course people like Thomas Jefferson and John Adams (and others like them) didn’t change positions dependent on which way the wind was blowing, so they weren’t embarrassed by their pasts.

As for those who say, “Well, Obama went to Harvard. That proves he’s smart.”…many of you are the same people who denigrate George W. Bush, who graduated from Yale and Harvard.

I have never denied that I have no respect for Obama…but it has nothing to do with his race. His policies, from the time he was first elected to office in Illinois (where I used to live) are the most liberal of any politician serving. (Although most of the time when serving the state he didn’t bother backing his own professed beliefs, choosing instead to simply vote present. ) His voting record is remarkably similar to the very white John Kerry…another politician I loathe based on his politics.

I don’t know why liberals have so much trouble separating race from the issues.

My good friend just posted this video on facebook. As is mentioned above, it is naive, at best, to deny that there are racial undertones in asking Obama to provide eligibility for presidency..3 years after he’s been in office.

So let’s see how Goldie Taylor, editor at TheGrio.com and guest on the Rachel Maddow Show, articulately explains the historic and cultural significance of asking a Black man to “show us his papers.”

@cattyfan – There’s this concept in the American private education system called “legacies” where rich white families can send their rich white spawn, regardless of their fecklessness to prestigious schools, merely by being a rich alumnus.

But when the biracial son of a working class family manages not only to get accepted into Harvard Law School but become the editor of the Law Review as well as graduate with highest honors, that does say something about his intelligence. Just as it would say similar things about a Bush if any of them were ever to achieve similar accolades.

Obama didn’t just go to Harvard, he distinguished himself as one of the best and brightest of his class. To say it was all “affirmative action” is coded, racist language.

Except for when his ass was shipped off to military school. I’m sure he earned that.

@Catty, because when you live in the heart of the red states (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana) there’s not much that separates race from the issues. We have moved forward but I myself am only one generation removed from Jim Crow laws.

Those people are birthers because it is quite far fetched to think that the Federal government couldn’t properly vet the commander in chief. If the Feds needed the long form birth certificate as further proof that he was born in the states that request would have been made years ago. So in turn I think that those people are foolish and a waste of time. There are many other issues that could have been addressed during the 2010 elections and still people continued to harp on this.

I can respect wanting to see certain documents about the President. But it could also be in his records that he was accepted based on affirmative action and he would then have another frivolous issue he would have to explain since he was able to show that he was one of the best students in his class. His accomplishment of Magna Cum Laude and his position of editor of the Harvard Law Review would be over shadowed by the thought he was “given” the slot in the class over some other white student.

article on the 2008 presidential candidates’ health:

the President’s last medical exam (this is a link from -gasp!- Fox News)
    http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/POTUS_EXAM.pdf

Oh, and yes his blood is human, not Vulcan.

Now granted, it is not the definitive answer – Like a site composed by someone with time on their hands, calling themselves “Dr. Zebra” – but it does appear that Obama did have medical exams and the results were made public. Interesting that Hilary Clinton did not have anything on that site, either. She was a candidate too.

Okay, so the medical stuff is done – he was a healthy 40 something male with nothing abnormal going on. End of story. Now, I guess the recreational drug use in his youth thing is relevant only to you. I don’t seem to recall any lenghty treatises on the health of Bush, but something tells me it was pretty much like Obama – a regular, middle aged guy who exercises. He too did some drugs and drank, but also got past it.

Of course someone like Thomas Jefferson or a James Madison would have some amazing writings – founding fathers often do. I do not recall any amazing college writings by Ronald Reagan, or either of the Bushes. And more importantly, I didn’t see anyone get their snout out of joint about the need to produce “papers”. Of course, there is a Presidental Library to do that – but we will have to wait until his service is over to see what will be placed there.

The real question you should be asking is why are people like you incapable of accepting his academic accomplishments and cast aspersions as to his merit? What is it about Barack Obama that makes it impossible for you to believe that he could graduate with honors from a demanding law school and be editor of the Harvard Review? Why is that so hard for you to believe? It is not just “liberals” who are probably looking at your comments and wondering who really might have a race problem.

Apparently people who look askance at anyone who has the audacity to ddislike or queestion Obama will never understand disliking someone based on their policies and politics. it has nothing to do with race. For example, from what I’ve seen of him so far, Representative Allen West impresses me greatly…and it has nothing to do with his skin color. And I’m betting that many people here don’t like him at all…but those who don’t like him will say it isn’t because he’s black.

I’m not asking because I “don’t believe” he graduated with honors. Classes he chose to take and things he may have included in his senior thesis would give a more honest picture of who Obama was then…and who he likely is now (as opposed to the image he has so very carefully crafted.)

@ itchy – You’re comparing asking for a birth certificate to the Salem trials and HUAC? My first thought was that you’re being disingenuous, but then the rest of your comment reveals you to be ignorant of our history.

@ cattyfan – How dare you present facts which contradict with the consensus of those who disagree with you. They insist you must submit to the establishment.

@ sarcasatire – Pointing to a video that Maddow posted, to prove your point, would be like someone posting a video that Beck posted. Everyone knows that Maddow is as extremely on the left as Beck is on the right. You’re as guilty as those you accuse.

@ vallegirl – You sound like a racist, yourself. White people can only achieve because they’re from rich families, and we know that all white people are rich. Right? I’m sure you can explain the rest of the “coded” language to us. Apparently, everyone speaks in “code”, now. I wish I had the special decoder ring that you have which would allow me to understand the meaning behind the statements.

@ LAC – I don’t think the problem is with the questions. We are the people who elect our lawgivers. The problem is that the lawgivers don’t think they need to answer to us once they are elected. The president is not royalty. We don’t bow to him. He’s one of us. Answer the questions and move on. Also, the founders aren’t deities. We can respect them and honor them, but they are not perfect examples of humanity. Every president has faced the same amount of scrutiny and ridicule. Several times, Lincoln was represented as a chimp in the popular press.

@ NotWithoutMyTV – Did you just try to prove that there’s racism by acting how you think a black person would talk? That’s… weird. I… I… I want to kiss you, right now and I don’t care who’s watching. Even if it’s your mom. Actually, I’d prefer it if your mom was there. You think she could do more than watch…?

@ Rebecca Fialkowski – Yeah, it made me stop and think, too. It made me think- “Look how many suckers fall for the same old gag line.” How do you make the “L” sign in text? Oh… I just did.

I think it’s fair to say that suggesting you are ignorant is not an insult except by your own understanding of the word. For your information, the truth doesn’t need flattery, it is what it is. Let’s remember, you are the one who compared a birth certificate request to the the Salem trials. That’s what I would call “ignorant”.

@ sarcasatire – You assume to speak for everyone? Or, is “us” a “code word” for everyone who agrees with you? I suppose it’s easy for you to share your opinion when you believe everyone agrees with it. I could say that if anything, sarcasatire just showed us how easy it is to prove yourself a fool in public. You could protest, you might have others rally to your defense, but to us, you’re still a fool.

A fool. Ha! As Itchy said, an insult is not a rebuttal. It only proves the weakness of your argument. Now, when you can argue your points without resorting to namecalling, then maybe you will be taken seriously.

You should be very very careful. If only because you’re only revealing your own ignorance. If nothing else you’re revealing your ignorance as to who I am and what I know.

But do go on, by all means. There’s nothing on tv right now anyway.

@JC – As a white person I often do offend myself with my anti-white racism.

Or maybe, if you read the the entire post, and not just the part that you wanted to be offended by, you’d see that I said that IF a Bush offspring had achieved what Obama achieved at Harvard Law it would indicate that regardless of how he was accepted he had earned his place at that prestigious school.

But thanks for being so thoguhtful in your debating style. I do appreciate being called a racist first thing on Sunday. It just starts my day with a smile.

@vallegirl-Doesn’t it make you feel that you are complete now? Being called something you aren’t just make your life brighter.

I wish this could be an intelligent conversation without the insults. You guys both have strong points of view and it was going pretty nice until insults started to fly. At least it isn’t as bad as some of the other wars we have had on here.

You guys have given me plenty to think about and so, I thank you. Please try to be nice. I know that it sounds dumb but I hate when people have wars anywhere on TVGasm because I like everyone on here. Thank you guys.

Just yesterday I was on the gasm laughing about the hats at the royal wedding. Then I saw all the above and just feel sad. Because I like to think of all of you that I don’t know as my friends. I fantasize that if I get to go to France someday, that my friend itchy will maybe give me advice; that snootchy will do the same for England, etc. There are so many of you who are incredibly smart, witty, well-read. I bought a David Sedaris book because of vallegirl, I watch the ass monkey Marcel’s show just because NWMTV is recapping it now and I want to understand. I wish I knew J-Mo’s friends so that maybe I could get some make-up and dressing tips. So, like Angela, I hope that civility will prevail. I enjoy learning from all of you, and my mother was right when she said never discuss politics or religion.

It’s funny, Fan-ann, because I’m not sure religion and political debates are what causes conflict on the threads. Sure, people feel very strongly about their viewpoints and will debate with others who do not, but even that seems to be done civilly most of the time. There are 150+ comments here and very little flaming done. It wasn’t until JC showed up and called vallegirl a racist, called itchy ignorant, made lewd comment about NotwithoutmyTv’s mother, insulted LAC, and ridiculed others, that this thread started to go downhill.

    One bad apple..

Aside from that, this was a spirited debate with plenty of wit and humor interspersed throughout. I don’t think there are hard feelings because we may find ourselves on different sides of the issue. I mean, unless you side with Trump. :)

Anyway, Fan-Ann, let me know when you’re visiting France and I’ll come along. I’ve always wanted to see the inside of a 16th century farmhouse. “Itchy, you’ve got visitors!” :)

Sorry, Sarc, our farmhouse is only from the 19th century. Well, part of it is older. That’s the part with the dirt floor. You all are welcome to sleep there, with the bats and the sparrows and this season’s stray cats. Except JC, of course. ;-)

In as much as JC’s post may have been offensive to many, it was just JC stating JC’s opinion. You can agree or disagree and of course it is within your right to post your opposing view. This is called a discussion.

What I find more distasteful than anything is the gang mentality that sometime’s rears it’s head here. I have read worse, in my opinion, from some poster’s here and it barely get’s a blip on the radar of other’s, and if it does it is glossed over or tippy toed around. There are certain subjects here that are verbotten unless it is posted by certain member’s of tvgasm. If the same thing was said by some then it is a free for all against the poster instead of correctly addressing the subject matter. And, before you say it, I know that personal attacks are something different entirely. That said, I still see a distinct seperation between what was said and what the response is depending who the poster is.

I personally think Obama is in over his head and I would prefer if he wasn’t the president. Is it because he is black? No, and I dare anyone to say that to my face. I think the white part of him shouldn’t be president either.( I didn’t bring up race, it was mentioned here) I think he is too inexperienced and I would have liked to see him run more yrs down the road when he would have been better prepared. I wanted to say that earlier on a different thread but held back because I didn’t want the backlash. I am ashamed that I was worried about it., to be honest. I guess that after 4 yrs here I just want to log in, read, LOL, enjoy now, and not worry whether or not something that I said may have caused a shit-storm without even trying. heh..

    Y’all Take Care. Robin

@ Robinez, I think the point is that it’s irrelevant if Obama is or isn’t over his head, but that he was born in the US. There’s a birth certificate, a certificate of live birth, et al, so the Birther debate should be dead/buried.

His qualifications are what they are, but his term as President has been mired in some mistakes. He has alienated the gay community, for one, alienated many in the Black community, and panders to the Republican party and squandered 60 Democrats in the Senate during the first two years of his Presidency.

All that being said, we can question the President’s actions, but it’s clear and proven he was born in the United States.

Bin Laden getting what he deserved was a group effort. First and foremost, our military deserves accolades. They are the ones doing the work and taking the risks, and they can never be thanked enough.

Obama is head of the military, and ultimately makes the calls for the scenarios presented by those who know the details and have all the facts…so he, too, gets congratulations.

And spokespeople from the White House have already released a statement in which they acknowledge that the basis for what was done which finally gave us today’s outcome was begun by George Bush…so Bush also gets praise.

An all around job well done.
