This story really saddens and angers me. I remember watching his story, years ago, on E:60. It was so heartwarming. Now, he’s a murderer. I am really interested to hear the whole story.
Omg no!!!!
I like him so much!
This is so crazy and sad.
OMG – what a shame. What a sad ending to what was an inspirational story. I am so sorry for her family
This is really sad.
So CNN is reporting that there’s speculation that it was an accident. I guess in S Africa they have a pretty violent society, and most people keep a gun at home, and people get mistakenly shot a LOT. So they’re suggesting that it’s possible he thought she was a criminal invading his home, and shot her.
But that’s just speculation.
Just a few months ago myself and a few friends attended the Paralympics to watch him and he made us all so proud to be South African. Its such a sad story
WHAAAAAT?! When I saw this on the marquee on CNN I figured it had something to do with that dumb Wesley Snipes movie. Not the Olympian. I love the Olympics but my interests really lie with gymnastics and diving so I didn’t know this guy’s name. Sad face.
What I don’t understand is that they are reporting that the suspect is being held without the chance for bail, yet the very next paragraph says that Oscar was seen leaving the police station after questioning and will be back for court on Friday. Can anyone explain how that works? I thought if you weren’t give a chance at bail, you had to stay in jail.
He also shot her in the hand? Sounds to me like she was holding her hand in front of her to try and stop the bullet. Like she knew it was coming. (yes people do that from instinct, I learned that on ID channel).
@Carol, Perhaps they had to transfer him a jail facility. The police station was just the first stop.
Oooh, depending on where on the hand, you may have something there. Defense wound. Makes sense.
Gah, makes me shudder. Poor girl.
