People Need To Chill Out Over The Go Daddy Ad

I didn’t write about this yesterday because I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, but seeing how people are still talking about it…let’s do it. For some reason people on the internetssss think that the Go Daddy ad was too controversial because it was sexist. I would like to pose this question to those who think the ad was too controversial. Have you EVER seen a Go Daddy ad? They’re all sexist. They come from the school of thought that sex sells, and it works to their advantage

So internetssss…I would like to put an end to this discussion by saying the ad provoked reaction. It did what Go Daddy wanted, and it made some nerd’s dream come true. The actor that played the nerd has been all over TV and so has Bar–that’s some serious press for a commercial. Not bad for a quick 30-second spot about a web-hosting company.

The chief creative officer of the ad agency that did the spot said, “We understand that a spot like this will be polarizing and controversial. There are others that find it silly. But everyone finds it memorable — and that’s important” – Amen!

For the record, Jesse Heiman (the actor) said the kiss took over 45 takes. Good for him!

Here’s the spot:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

The commercial was fine–the sounds were gross, and that would have been true no matter the actors.

Why does GoDaddy still do these commercials?

I’m with Tracy. The sounds were repulsive.

Didn’t I read somewhere several weeks ago about Go Daddy making a decision to stop the licentious commercials? Lucky nerd, though.

The only thing that offended me was the disgusting slurping going on. Ughh.

A BJ would have been more interesting, less repulsive AND kept the nerd’s face out of sight.

If we’re going to be forced to watch shit like this without adequate warning, at least somebody should have a happy ending.

Yup. That is why the commercial was gross! I’d rather see Danica Patrick parade around in her underwear then watch 2 people slurp with they kiss. And I can’t stand Danica Patrick!

To me, ignoring sexist commercials is like when someone in the room makes a women’s rights joke and anyone who doesn’t laugh just “can’t take a joke”. We all know GoDaddy commercials are going to be grossly sexist, but does acting like it’s not a big deal help either? There were a lot of funny and memorable commercials during the Super Bowl that featured sexy people (of both genders) that managed to not be sexist. Why can’t we make a big deal out of the one company that continues to do that?

I honestly have no idea why people are so uptight about this commercial. Must be a slow week.
Also, of course it was supposed to be “controversial.” The fact that people are getting their panties in a twist is just feeding into exactly what they wanted– so continue to whine away and think you’re making a point.
Either way, get oooover it. Plenty of other things to be outraged about, honestly.
Disclaimer- this isn’t directed at any of you ‘gasm ho’s.

The fact that everyone is talking about THEIR commercial more than anyone else the next day is the whole point. It doesn’t matter how they did it. They did it! BRAVO!

I wonder how much they paid her. I am assuming he was willing to work for free reign of the craft services table. Not sure how them kissing was gross though other than the fact he looks like a Peter Griffin bad rash upper East Side Bubbie hybrid with too much blush..

Can’t help but wonder what the reaction would have been had the situation been reversed – the guy is hot and the girl is lucky to have escaped her beating with the ugly stick

Gross. I did not need to see that. (not directed at the actors specifically, I just find open mouth kissing disgusting)

I didn’t necessarily find it sexist, but I sure as hell found it gross. Not because the guy is supposed to be some huge nerd, but because like others have said, I don’t need to see (or HEAR! ewww) that from anyone. Yuck.

Okay, so the ONLY thing I found to be uncomfortable about this commercial was the movement of their lips – it looked like a tense kiss that just wasn’t that enjoyable. And I guess after 45 takes (!) that’s probably how they felt. But come ON! We are such a puritanical society. There was tons of violence in the superbowl commercials, and no one was offended. But a paunchy nerdy guy gets to make out with a supermodel? Stop the presses! The horror! Hell, I’m a straight girl, and I say props to him, cause I’d want to make out with her too! Why can’t we just be happy for the opportunity he got?

Speaking only for myself, happiness and jealousy are conflicting emotions.

I don’t give a shit who the two people are .. I just don’t want to see or hear them sucking spit out of each other’s mouths.
    Boorish.

Psssst Dashley it would be very silly and hypocritical for someone to complain about violence in commercials when they are watching football.

When my sister and I were kids, we would gross each other out by making a pot of Macaroni (or Shells n Cheese) and stir it in the pot……over….and over…..The slurping sound on the commercial sounds exactly like that.

    NAILS ON A CHALKBOARD. blech!!!!!

Apparently I must have tuned out the noise, because the only thing that I noticed was his face turning red. It was kinda sweet that his face turned colors while he was kissing a pretty girl.

Other than that, it wasn’t a clydesdale commercial..

I know why they use sex in their ads…GoDaddy website builder sucks more than these two did on each other’s lips. When you have a bad service, covering it up with sex is probably a good idea.

I felt bad for the kid in this, though…did you see how red he got? Wow!
