PSY No Longer Approves of Murdering Americans. Yay?

PSY, creator of the crazy popular Gangham Style, is becoming American! Well, mentally. He’s now partaking in the grand American tradition of apologizing for shit he did years ago.

Back in 2004, he rapped about killing “Yankees” because of Iraqi prisoner torture. He was also pissed about US military presence in South Korea during the beginning of the Iraq war. Now, though, he’s making a shit ton of US money, and the sorries are a flowin’!

Easy to forgive a country that turns you into a zillionaire and still let’s you complain, eh? Next time he protests, he will be doing on Twitter from a shiny new iPhone in a stretch limo with giant boobied hookers on his lap. Ah, the American dream!

Obama’s forgiven him, as he’ll be attending a charity concert where PSY is performing. Viva la Gangham! PS: did anyone else wonder at the beginning of this song’s viral spread when ham finally got itself together and formed a gang?

There are almost 30K American troops in Korea. Most of them couldn’t give two flying you-know-what’s about Psy. His music is not very popular over here with the Korean public, especially since he’s unattractive. Koreans have a pretty high standard of beauty over here, and it’s non gender specific. They prefer their k-pop stars to wear haute couture fashion (not bow ties), wear makeup and razor-cut hairstyles (not gel-infused, short, swooped hair) and most importantly, to have slender faces that come to a point at their chins — and weigh in at about a buck thirty. This is obviously not Psy’s “look”.

Also, I read that he was pissed at the time that an American tank ran over two young Korean female pedestrians. That DID happen in 2004, and it was a terrible tragedy BUT … KOREAN drivers kill more KOREAN pedestrians than ANY other country in the world. Glass houses …

I love Psy. Sure, ApplePie, he doesn’t look like a manufactured pop star and that’s not really an insult when you think about it. He’s refreshing. And his video has more hits than anything else on youtube, including American artists and all those pretty k-pop stars. Oh, and the fact that he’s against war and a foreign military invasion of his country… I almost want to see what it would be like if soldiers of another country entered the US and paraded around our cities. Patroled highways, stood guard in certain areas, in their uniforms, holding high powered rifles and driving tanks through the streets while you took your children to school and went to work. I would LOVE to know the stance some of you would take if that happened on your soil. A little perspective is so necessary sometimes..

That is in S Korea, Sarcasatire? US troops are stationed there, but they are not patrolling the streets. They are there as deterrance to the N Koreans who threaten to cross the 38th parallel on a regular basis. We are not occupying S Korea. Certainly not in the way we occupied Iraq. Psy can say what he likes, but the kill all Americans line is tad talibany for my liking.
As for Psy — I like the song, and found him quite charming on the morning shows when he was promoting it. However, a Korean relative of mine told me that Psy isn’t that well liked in S Korea because – and I quote – ‘he is ugly and fat’. I once asked her how would I be perceived when I go Seoul as I am not, ahem slender….she said not to worry, everyone will know I’m American lol!

Whether Team America is there to \help\ or not, is not my point. Only that if the situation were reversed, and we had foreign soldiers driving tanks through our streets that inadvertently ran over a few young girls, there would be outrage. And maybe a pop song based on it. (Is Bob Dylan still recording? lol!) Look how hard US protestors go for wars that America isn’t even involved in.. imagine if someone else were on our soil \protecting\ us!

I’m not mad at someone for venting their frustration. Doesn’t make him a terrorist. His invitation still stands at the White House, so there’s that. :)

Regarding \talibany\.. I’m usually diplomatic on stuff like this, but it amuses me how when one side says \let’s go get ‘em\, it’s a declaration of war, but when the other side says , \let’s go get ‘em\, it’s terrorism. I guess it all depends on which side you’ve taken. #perspective

With that said, my newfound girth means I probably would never be a K-pop star either. But like Psy..I’m surprisingly agile. *drops mic and typewriters out of the room* :D

Sorry Sarcas — you missed my point. ‘Lets go get em’ was not the problem — it was when he said “kill American soldiers and their families”. Seriously, their families? Yeah – that was a bit ‘talibany’ to my ear. Or if you prefer, a bit dickish. But I tend to believe that the ‘and their families’ part probably rhymed in Korean….who knows?
Oh, and American soldiers are not there to /help/….they are there at the invitation of the S Korean government who takes the threat of a N Korean invasion very seriously. Did you know that S Korea has a compulsary service for all males? That is why you don’t see many male S Korean pro golfers(as compared to all the female ones who are dominating!) — the boys have to leave the game and serve 3 or 4 years in the military.
If we had a threat directly on our border who regularily kidnapped our civilians, and threatened to invade or at least lob bombs at us I may not mind the foreign presence. And fwi S Koreans really aren’t that into reunification as you may think. I think those that have first degree relatives up there probably do, but the rest…no. They view them as uneducated and brain washed and a huge potential drain on their economy.
Anyway, I probably went on too long but I do like to learn about others as I’m sure you do as well.

“Oh, and American soldiers are not there to /help/….they are there at the invitation of the S Korean government who takes the threat of a N Korean invasion very seriously. ”

So they are there to do what? Help!

I guess we missed each other’s point. lol

Both sides of war kill civilians, but only one side is called a terrorist. I’m sure you know that Iraqis and their families were being killed during the US invasion, right? So if someone says, well let’s go kill their families, too…then their the terrorist? Either way, I’m not mad at someone who expresses their frustration at what they consider a military menace whether we are there to “help” or not. And he may have been upset about the girls being run over, but he was mostly upset about the invasion of Iraq which many still see as unfounded since no WMD’s were found. We know North Korea has WMD’s but we haven’t invaded them, have we. Why? Their army is 100 million strong! We’re not winning that war! Bush isn’t as stupid as people think.. lol

Anyway, enough war and talibany talk for me. Psy is over it and so am I. And like I said, he still is set to perform at the White House, so the government is over it, too.

The man occupying the White House sat in a church which, for decades, has spewed “hate America” rhetoric. It comes as no surprise, then, that Psy is still welcome to perform.

I like his hit song. But I don’t like his previous statements, and I think the only reason he’s backing away from them is because of the money he is currently making.

Yes, it would, Mister Dangerous. Even though I believe Michelle is the better dancer. :)

You’re implying what, Catty…that Obama hates America? That he agrees with statements like “let’s kill the Yankees and their children” and its evident by his not rescinding Psy’s invitation to perform? #FOH

Some people need the flimsiest excuse to go on an anti-Obama tangent. Here’s yours, I guess.

I’m saying Obama isn’t offended by anti-American sentiment…as evidenced by the company he has kept for his entire life. A truthful, yet slightly unpleasant, statement isn’t “hateful.”

Someone displaying their frustration at the American government isn’t the same as *anti-American* sentiments or else you’d be guilty, too, Catty.

But let’s not derail this thread into a political discussion/comment war about Obama. Please read my comment #11 about this being your flimsy excuse to spew more anti-American, I mean, anti-American *government* crap in the Watercooler thread.

The slightest reference to Psy’s performance at the White House was made and you want to discuss Obama, his pastor, the congregation, and the *company he’s kept his entire life.*

    Predictably ridiculous.

(my captcha says “do you believe in miracles?”
Well, I would if Catty ever stopped bringing anti-Obama comments to a thread that had nothing to do with him. :D )

The 2004 song came to light, and is causing an uproar BECAUSE Psy has been invited to the White House…making political comments relevant.

Gangnam Style is still an insidiously catchy dance tune which I find going through my head at the most odd times. Although I find the video mildly disturbing (like the shot of Psy sitting down in the overly tight dark pink shorts. Yikes.)
