I just read that Bonnie Franklin passed away. She was 69. She had been battling pancreatic cancer…so sad. Bonnie was best known for her role in One Day at a Time. She will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Ugh I disliked David and then he played the creepy pedo in some ABC made for tv movie or after school special and then the hate really set in. Always like Schneider for Ms Romano.

I just remember her bouncing, bra-less nippleage on that stupid sitcom. I’m sorry, but THAT’S what I fondly remember. Sue me.

Now I have that song in my head:

    This is it.
    This is life,
    the one you get,
so go and have a ball.

    RIP Bonnie

So sad. I loved that show as a kid.

I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer almost 11 years ago (she was young & healthy prior – like really, really healthy).

Stunningly, my dad now has pancreatic cancer too. Even the docs are gobsmacked. WTF did my family get exposed to?

Anyway, I didn’t mean to go off on that personal tangent. I’m just really saddened by this. RIP Bonnie.

    My condolences, zbird.

The same thing happened to a fried of mine’s dad and it turned out he was exposed to radon from their basement. Either way, well wishes to your dad and hugs to you.

I am sorry for your loss aboard. My FIL died from pancreatic cancer as well. He had a baseball sized tumor removed… came back 9 months later to his liver. He stopped treatment at the end of 07 passed away in early April 08. We were lucky to come home. I think he waited for my husband to get home. We had one really good day with him. It was like old times. He was feisty as hell!! FIL’s ex wife also passed from pancreatic cancer last year or year before… They were both mid 50′s. This one is a tough one. There is no cure.

See this makes me really want to go get that spot checked on my lung…

You guys are scaring me! I knew pancreatic cancer is almost always fatal, but I thought it was rather rare. So sorry to everyone that lost a loved one to this horrible cancer…

@thisbuggs4u Are you serious about the spot? Please get it checked if you are! My FIL had one show up on an x-ray, thankfully turned out to be nothing. Hoping the same for you!

@lab I totally remember that! Fallen Angel with Dana Hill from European Vacation. She’s another one that died way too young. I was around 12 when I saw that and he creeped the hell outta me, too!

@KJN- I went in for a CT of my stomach in 2010 and it showed up. But it never showed on the chest x-ray that I had. My dr told me that if I had coughing fits to go to the er. But I have been sick twice since then. Yes, I know I need to get it checked. I have such a hard time getting into the dr now that we are not in San Diego anymore. The military base we are at is so small, that we have to have a referral for everything.

Yes you are also correct as in it is fatal. But for some reason, it seems to be becoming more common.

Thanks y’all for the kind words & condolences. It has been unbelievable to go through this with 2 parents — not to mention the fear I have of getting it (2 first-degree relatives with pan can = my odds are through the roof of getting it –odds are something like 32 times higher than the average person).

And it does seem like it’s popping up more and more frequently. I have a pet theory on this, but I have no evidence to prove it. I think it’s due to processed foods — the constant hits to the pancreas are over-taxing it and this is the end result. That’s why someone like my mom (and my dad) who ate very healthfully per the government’s food pyramid (lots of grains/little fats) and who exercised like a maniac (runner, skiier, sailer, kayaker, you name it) could end up with pancreatic cancer. Remember the low fat craze of the 90s? The Snackwells, etc? Yep, we ate all of that. Now later, when we all did more studying of nutrition, we moved to a whole foods approach, but the damage was already done for my mom, and now my dad. I just hope it’s not too late for my brother and me. Granted, there has to be more to it than just processed foods, or else millions of people would be keeling over, but I definitely think that it plays a key role.

    Now thisbug…go get checked!

Thanks for the reminder KJN. Yuckie yuck yuck.

Zbird – better detection. I have lost track of the amount of brain tumor folks I have met.

This – go get tested, please. The fear of the unknown will make you sicker with worry.
