R.I.P. Whitney Houston

Sadly, Whitney Houston passed away today. She was pronounced dead at 3:55PM at the Beverly Hilton hotel. She was 48. In my opinion, the world lost a pop legend today, and her story ended in a tragedy. Honestly, I don’t know how to react to this…I’m sad and angry at the same time–she had it all and threw it away. She had a disease, and just couldn’t overcome it…

She will always be remembered as one of the greats of all time. She was one of the few that could be called a Diva and could still pull it off. Even when she asked Bobby Brown to take poop out of her butt in their reality series, she was still the legend…a fallen one, but still a legend…

My favorite memory of Whitney was during carpool when I was just a mini Nads….the driver of our carpool would belt out “I Will Always Love You” at the top of her lungs until I’d want to bang my head against the window. Thankfully our driver got sick of the song as much as I did, and it stopped. But every time that songs comes on at the dentist office, I always look back on those days and smile. Good times.

Thanks for the memories, Whitney. R.I.P.

I know it, I know…this might be too soon, but this was one of my favorite Whitney interviews…

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Ah, I’m devastated like many, but the REALLY disheartening thing I’m seeing is SO many people being cruel and nasty and posting shit on FB like “Nasty crack whores die every day, why do we care about this bitch?”… and stuff like that. I had to defriend a few people, cuz I just can’t handle it, which sounds ridiculous, and I suppose it is, but that’s how I’m feeling about it. I mean yeah, Whitney was messed up and she destroyed her voice, nobody can argue that, the proof is on the last CD, but people seem to have lost any and all empathy for the disease of addiction, and that is just sad. And UNLIKE nasty crack whores, Whitney left a legacy of beautiful music with that angelic voice that we can all enjoy until WE die, so in MY opinion THAT’S why she deserves to be mourned and blessed and revered… because if there IS a God, then a piece of His art went back home with her today.

    love, J-Mo :)

Also, on the other hand, I can’t deny, I’ve used the “dootie-bubble” joke more than once, I can’t help it, it just made me laugh, and probably always will…. :)

Well said, J-Mo! I was very sad to hear of her passing and I immediately started playing her greatest hits on my itunes. I even sang along…off-key but my heart was in the right place. My daughter, however, left the room.

Growing up in Brooklyn in the 80′s there wasn’t a Brown child alive that didn’t sing a Whitney song at graduation. Namely, “I Believe The Children Are Our Future.” I smile to think about all 150 of us kids belting out the high notes.

    R.I.P Whitney..

Well, the last i heard was the cause of death was unknown. When Amy Winehouse passed away every comment or report i heard was saying it was an overdose and then they did the autopsy and her system was clean.
Either way I am always sad when a child loses a mother, so my thoughts are with Bobbi Kristina and the family more than on the cause of death. I am already bracing myself for all the loving praise from the hypocritical masses and media and industries, that thrived on knocking her down in her darkest hours as they are sure to be changing their tune tonight.

I never watched that reality show because I loved her music, her voice, her talent and beauty, and had no wish to change my image of her. I saw her in concert years ago from incredible third row seats that were my birthday present from my husband. I feel privileged to have seen her at her best. That is how I choose to remember her.

I think assholes out there for whom “crackwhore” was the first word on their lipids upon news of this woman’s death need to remember that Lindsay Lohan didn’t die. Britney Spears didn’t die. Kim RICHARDS didn’t die. Whitney FUCKING Houston died. She had a voice that is unmatched and will remain so, and if every crackwhore out there in a gutter had a voice like that and gave that much to the unforgiving public, I’d mourn and respect them, too. And if those women were famous and had a daughter who also lived in the public eye (not by choice), I’d watch my damn mouth for the kid’s sake.

It is just so great to read all the love pouring out from the Gasmii upon hearing the sad, sad news of Witney Houston’s death. Flip, your tribute was lovely. J-Mo, as a fellow weeper, I cried every time I heard “I will Always Love You” and Hubbycat and I consider it our special song. Love, SSC

I feel sorry for all the people who go down the path of drug addiction. I know people would be reacting more harshly if it had been Courtney Love, but she (to me) is a tragic figure. Yes, she did drugs before, but imagine how much it would screw you up to have a husband who says he loves your daughter and adores you…and blows his head off in your house anyway.

Winehouse’s death investigation has been reopened, by the way.

May Whitney find the peace in death that she was unable to find in this life.

This is one of two comments–to Mister Serena Williams– you tweeted it best “Wow. Just wow…This ruins my whole day” Thank you Mister Williams— I had no idea just who to offer my condolences to. I thought it was the family esp her young daughter. But wow-thank you for teaching me the ever tricky ways of celebrity.

And Comment second— This is truly sad. I remember as young Cawfee reading my Seventeen Magazine and seeing a photo of “young model and aspiring singer Whitney Houston” She was lovely–she had headphones on and such a look of joy on her face. She radiaited off the page– it was oh these many years ago but I remember so clearly how she looked and what she woare and her hair.
This is sad—-s much talent. Maybe this will save a life. As much as I joked about Demi Moore and her folks rec room in the 70′s, perhaps someone famous or otherwise will get needed treatment.

@cattyfan -i absolutely believe if it were Courtney Love (or Lindsey , Britney, Kim, etc) that the news would be received differently for a large percentage of the population (like Allejandra), and that is sad.I’ve experienced the disease of addiction from every angle and it is a horrific disease that has catastrophically devastating effects on the addict and everyone that loves them.
I don’t know whether or not drugs or alcohol caused Whitney’s death, but i do know that for many of us death provides the only relief and peace we will know.

Oh Whitney. When I heard her latest CD I almost cried. I reminded me of Judy Garland – how she too ruined her glorious voice with drugs. At her worst, Whitney sounded better than most of the so-called singers today but still when you heard her at her best – it was a tragic thing. So now like Judy Garland, she died way too young. I too see how some have taken the anonymity of the web and said the foulest things the commenters wouldn’t say in public. But unfortunately the web has been that way since its inception.

I do hope Bobby Christina will be able to rise above the chaos. I know she will be tracked down by leeches, so-called well-wishers, and a host of other unwanteds and I hope her family will be there to help her through it.

I will always remember Whitney Houston’s music- it was the sountrack of my adolescence.

I’m so sad that it ended this way for her. She was such a great singer and so beautiful…she could even act. Even before she died, when her songs would come on itunes or pandora, I would feel like crying because she had so much and lost it. It really hurts to think about what her life could have been, had it not been for the drugs, but at least she has peace now.

I hope her family and loved ones are able to cope.

Buffy, I never have and never will nastily commented on someone who’s passed due to an addiction, having also experienced it myself, so (and I say this with respect and not anger) please don’t lump me into a certain percentage of the population. I was truly saddened by Amy Winehouse’s death, and kept my thoughts about what caused it to myself. However, Whitney Houston gave the world a 30 year career before any of this happened, and to have her public persona reduced to such a nasty, insensitive, hateful word denies the richness of her life. Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Kim Richards and Courtney Love haven’t contributed a tenth of what Whitney did to the entertainment industry. While that certainly doesn’t mean that any of them should be treated with such disrespect if they are unlucky enough to suffer the same fate, none of them will leave the legacy Whitney Houston did unless they get their shit together right quick. And I hope they do, because I, for one, am sick to death of seeing talent wasted.

They just showed a clip of her singing “I will Always Love You” on the Grammy show. She was perfect. Like an angel singing. I am the same age as her and when I look back each of her songs remind me of a period of time in my life.

I saw Kathy Griffin arriving on the red carpet earlier today..She looked kind of uncomfortable. Took guts to show up..

    Just putting this out there…
I guess I’m just sad and feeling ripped off that a great talent was taken too soon and maybe I am looking to place blame.
    BUT
Does anybody feel (like I do) that Bobby Brown was the beginning of the end for Whitney? I am the first to admit I know VERY little about addiction but was Whitney an addict or did Bobby and his bad boy ways get her hooked to the point where in became an addiction?

I understand she was an adult and capable of making her own choices but I think Bobby was jealous and wanted to bring her down to his level so he wasn’t Mr. Whitney Houston and in my opinion he succeeded.

Bobby and Whitney fed each other’s worst attributes and habits. Their egos…their addictions…they were awful for each other.

And you know he’ll try to stake a comeback and make money on this.

@considerthis -I have no idea who was using first, but there’s a good chance they both were. Birds of a feather and all. Whitney was bigger than Bobby when they got together though, and I doubt he was so jealous that he made a calculated decision to marry her and ruin get career and her life.

To blame Bobby Brown for what she chose to continue to do many years after they were no longer together isn’t fair. She was a grown ass adult and a Mother.

I also think that she was a treasure that was lost too soon. She never had any scandal, she didn’t have any sleepovers, and as a football fan, I will never forget the chills that I got when I heard her National Anthem. I am from St. Pete and went to Tampa Stadium for the SB that year. Didn’t have tickets, but you could buy tailgaiting space in advance and watch on a jumbotron in the parking lot. The folks in the parking lot all shut up when she sang, we had just gone to war the week before and it was a moment in my life that I will never forget.

Whitney herself interviewed something to the effect that her attraction to Bobby, before they married, was because they were more alike than people knew. While she started in the church, in her own words, she was “no angel”. That being said, I am still in shock. I wasn’t following her recent career; but will always remember the wonderful songs of my young adulthood. I hope her daughter, her mom and yes, her ex, can all get through this tough time.

@Buffy, I think you misunderstood the comment that you quoted. It sounds like the exact opposite of what you are accusing Allejandra of doing. Sounds like she was saying that regardless of Whitney’s addictions, she deserves to be mourned and respected based solely on her talent and how much she gave to a public that refused to forgive her. And that if there are crackwhores in the gutter with her type of talent and who gave as much as she did to an unforgiving public, they deserve to be mourned and respected as well.
