Rosie Is Changing It Up

Rosie O’Donnell is taking her show to a new studio and is going to stop taping in front of a live studio audience. Rosie said, “I’m out of practice and it also doesn’t feel real for who I am today. Who I am today is not just a comic, right? I’ve got a lot of other interests. I want to have real conversations. I don’t want to perform or present, I just want to talk.”

I don’t watch her show, but I have caught a few episodes and her monologue/stand-up makes me cringe. It’s uncomfortable to watch–that stage is not set for stand-up and Rosie looks so awkward up there. It’s too sterile of an environment to be doing a show in front of a live studio audience. I can’t believe how cursed OWN is…they have a few shows that do well for them, but for the most part it’s a big failure.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Holy freaking crap that picture is awesome! Rosie was okay as a stand-up when she was about 25 and on Star Search. (Possibly that was because I was 8 and had little else to watch.) But that stuff is NOT like riding a bike!

She’s so angry and bitter. She used to be funny, but now she just radiates rage. Who wants to watch that?

Her new format is actually pretty good and she’s had some interesting guests. I watch it.

Her interviewing guests consists of her asking them what they’ve done and trying to one-up them. “You were on Broadway? I was on Broadway.” “You’ve done a movie? Did you see me in a movie?”

@beebs – Thanks for the head’s up on the “format” – I haven’t watched her show since she became so angry, and I had no idea it was a one-upping thing…I get enough of that at family dinners with the sis-in-law and it is irritating! :) Now I can save that timeslot for something really good, like Hoarders or Intervention, haha!

    That picture NEVER gets old!
