Rumor: Ryan Seacrest On The Today Show?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ryan Seacrest is high on the list to succeed Matt Lauer on the Today Show if he leaves. There have been rumors circulating around Matt’s departure for a while now, and if it actually happens, they’ll need a replacement fast. Ryan’s deal with with NBCUniversal ends early next year, so regardless Ryan will be up for contract negotiations. I’m not the biggest Matt Lauer fan, but I hope he doesn’t leave for the sole purpose of not having Ryan take his spot. I think Ryan is a pro and a great host, but his interviews aren’t all that compelling.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! How to you replace the tall man that is Matt Lauer with a little stump like Seacrest. I don’t want to see a grown man’s feet dangling off a couch all morning.

    Depends on what NBC wants the show to feel like, I guess. If they want to stay newsy, keep Lauer. If they want to go all fluffy, infotainment fat-free lite, then NBC probably wants Seacrest.

    @NotWithoutMyTV – true! I hope they keep Lauer. they already have fat-free lite w/ Hoda and Kathie Lee, which I love–but they should keep it somewhat newsy–although news these days has become all fluff, hasn’t it?

    @NotWithoutMyTV and Nads – no kidding! The show is mostly entertainment anyway, so they might as well make the transformation complete. Lester Holt would bring some class to the morning (and keep the focus on news) – but they’d have to get rid of Ann Curry to bring me back to the show. Man does she suck it!

    Maybe NBC is moving Lauer to Morning Joe on MSNBC because I just figured out the 8am news show is a tape of the 6am show. I guess a news show for two hours in a row it too stressful for a ex-congressman and the blond. Matt has more experience with staying on air longer.

    I just figured this out this week and very disappointed but don’t where to vent.

    WTH Tvsnarkeling?!?!!?? What?!!?!? I watch that show everyday, but of course by 8 o’clock I am at work. I guess they can get away with it because the majority of people watching aren’t watching the entire 3 hours.

    I actually flip between the two shows because some times Joe goes on rants so I watch the Today show then sometimes Ann sounds stupid so I have to turn back to Morning Joe.

    I’m happier when I avoid the news.

    When I DO listen to it, and I’ve had all the unemployement/climate change/dems vs. republicans/Kardashians I can stand, I say “And today, in Tulsa, a mother cat gave birth to 8 healthy kittens. The kittens are very cute, and their mother loves them very much.”

    Then I turn of the goddam TV/radio.

    Yes classy drunk it’s true. I don’t normally watch it at 8 but missed part of the 6am show (they rambled on about Baldwin)and tuned in at 8 to see if they were going to cover the President’s speech (it was raining here so I was slow moving). Low and Behold it’s deja vu. I watched it again this morning and noted a girl behind one of the guests take off her jacket at 6:05 and again at 8:05. I wonder if the sponsors know this??
