Sarah Jessica Parker reached out to Carrie Bradshaw 2.0. Yay! Pen Pals!

AnnaSophia Robb told Us Weekly“She sent me a letter! I wrote her one back, too. She was just very encouraging about it all. It was really cool!”

I think I could make a movie about this little love affair. It’s such a Sweet Valley High premise…

I have a question, and not to pick on a nice young lady, but what were her parents thinking when they took the space out of her name? Was it to signify that her WHOLE name is AnnaSophia? And did her parents think the lack of a space was better than a hyphen? It’s certainly more pretentious. Who knew?

Lesson of the day: “No space” is the new hyphen! Let’s party!

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I’m guessing her folks were early players in that whole dotcom thing. All the corporations had no-hypen names like that.

But damn. Does this mean Carrie Bradshaw aged really really poorly?

I think the nose is what is throwing me off. Shouldn’t Carrie’s nose be embarrassing at such an awkward age? I get that she isn’t supposed to be SJP, but Carrie was supposed to be insecure about at least one thing, right?

If we’re going to quibble over noses, then I’m going right to the shape of the face. The new one’s face is SORTA long, but it’s not “Hello, I’m Mr. Ed.” long. You need a real equine visage if you’re going to play Carrie Bradshaw. And eyes that glaze into stupefaction if five words go by without the word “Carrie” or “shoes” in there somewhere.

This must be a cautionary tale: “Kids, see what smoking and drinking will do to you.”

There already was a “Carrie Diaries.” It was called “Square Pegs.” And it was, like, totally awesome.

Although I will say this: I can’t stand Candace Bushnell’s works. She creates (SATC included) characters who are wholly unsympathetic, which makes it extremely difficult to connect to anyone she wants us to connect with. The sole exception(s) being Carrie Bradshaw in “The Carrie Diaries” and “Summer and the City.” While I hated every g.d. book Bushnell had written up until then, I absolutely loved both “The Carrie Diaries” and especially “Summer and the City.” I think that Bushnell took the best of the t.v. series and expanded on it — especially the characters of Carrie and Miranda. I’m really looking forward to the series to see what the powers at be come up with. I’m glad that some of the people who were involved with SATC (the TV series) are on board, but I’m still a little trepidatious . . . I really do love those books. They’re the best things that Candace Bushnell has ever written.

In “The Carrie Diaries” and “Summer and the City,” Carrie is insecure about a lot of things. Her nose isn’t one of them, given that Candace Bushnell based the novels on her idea of Carrie Bradshaw (not necessarily the Carrie of the TV series). I hated Carrie Bradshaw in the original SATC book(s), but Bushnell managed to take the best of Carrie from the TV show and merge her with the best of Carrie from the SATC book to create a really great character. I highly suggest reading “The Carrie Diaries” and “Summer and the City” before the show airs. They’re not life-changing, but they’re highly addictive and probably some of the most accessible writing Bushnell’s written since . . . well, ever.

The interesting thing about “The Carrie Diaries” is that Carrie lives with her single father and 2 other sisters. TV series Carrie mentioned in season 5 of SATC (the series) that her father left when she was very young. It’ll be interesting to see if the creators/producers/writers decide to follow the books or the TV series when it comes to Carrie’s life. I hope they follow the books . . . And I’m totally stoked to see Donna LaDonna and I REALLY REALLY hope they include Walt and keep his story-line intact.

I hope Muffy Tepperman and Marshall Bleckman will make appearances too. GOD– that show rocked.

Havent read these books b/c CB’s writing was kind of dreadful– yes the characters was obnoxious and very one dimensional–ooooo was it CB”s way of making them card-board cut outs ?? A commentary on how beautiful woman are percieved?? The beautiful woman of Gasmi are nothing like that.

Hypnotoad– am taking your suggestion– will read your faves b4 watching “The Carrie Diaries”

You should definitely read them. Like I said, I hated Bushnell’s books and was hesitant to read The Carrie Diaries, but she really did seem to be doing a prequel of the series and not of her own SATC books, while giving them her own spin on the origin(s) of Carrie Bradshaw. As a huge fan of the series, it was a really wonderful surprise. And Summer and the City was even better.
