Southwest Airlines Getting Their Own Reality Show (Again)

TLC just picked up 13 episodes of a show following Southwest Airlines. I think if any airline deserves a reality show, it’s Southwest, although this isn’t their first shot at having a reality show. They used to be the featured subject of A&E’s Airline in 2004 and 2005, but this time they promise they’re going to give a real inside look.

They’re most definitely the most outrageous of all the airlines and certainly attract the most drama. Between Kevin Smith and his “too fat to fly” scandal to Leisha Hailey making out with her girlfriend to yanking Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong off a flight for having his pants to low, the drama never ends. Question is will the passengers allow the airline to film while they’re flying? And will they really deliver what they promise? Thankfully it’s about the airline and not just the flight attendants…we all know how well CW’s Fly Girls did…

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I loved Airline. To watch drunks try to act like they aren’t drunk to board a plane is fantastic. It is also a how to guide on what NOT to do when trying to board a plane after 5 hours of boozing b/c you had a 5 hour delay. What do they expect you to do during that time you waiting in the airport anyway?

Although the drunks were entertaining in a thank-goodness-I-don’t-have-to-deal-with-that-daily-as-part-of-my-job way, the REAL standouts were the human flotsam and jetsam that were there because someone bought them a ticket, and they had no other money on them, needed a bath, needed clothes that didn’t smell, needed deodorant, needed mouthwash, etc. These are the folks that normally would be put on a bus out of town by someone, but because the flights can be so cheap, they ended up at an airport, totally out of their milieu. There is something to be said about higher ticket prices being a screening device.
I long for the day when people actually DRESSED WELL to take a flight and didn’t look like they’d just rolled out of bed or off a park bench when they got there . . . especially when we have to sit trapped within 2 inches of them.

“Will passengers allow them to film” you asked? Nads, Nads…..”I’M GOING TO BE ON TV”!!!!! Of course people will allow them to film….we all want to air our dirty laundry (and butts) on a reality show at least once! ;-)
