Rumor is that Madonna is going to be the half-time performer for the next Super Bowl in Indianapolis. I’m curious to see how true this rumor is. I don’t think it’s out of the question considering the biggest of the biggest get that spot every year. Madge hasn’t done anything in a while except show off her skeletal body, so this could be the push she needs to get her ass back on stage.

Here are the Super Bowl’s past 10 performers:

  • 2002 – U2
  • 2003 – Shania Twain, No Doubt, Sting
  • 2004 – Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake
  • 2005 – Paul McCartney
  • 2006 – The Rolling Stones
  • 2007 – Prince
  • 2008 – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  • 2009 – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
  • 2010 – The Who
  • 2011 – The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, and Slash

Madonna would be a great addition to that list. Hope it’s true!

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Madonna…because the average football fan wants to watch a well-past middle age, skeltetal, ugly slut writhe about and sing old pop songs. Almost as bad a choice as Paul “Angela Lansbury’s Double” McCartney.

Better than the Who but not at good as Prince or Bruce. I think that if you take a poll of men who watch football they probably don’t want to see a Madonna half time show.

Bruce was the best in memory for me. Not sure I want to see Scary Arms Skeletor Madonna though… Hope the teams are good, if the half time show isn’t.

Nads you were kind to use that picture. The recent ones I have seen show a face ruined by fillers and Botox. Her arms really are frightening also. The only singer I can think of who has held on to her sexy image through the years is the incomparable Cher. Depending on the teams playing, I might be watching for the commercials as usual….hope there’s a new one with the Clydesdales!

I think that during the half-time show, the men who watch football are busying grilling pig, chicken, or cow carcasses, making beer runs, and urinating. The network knows that, so I think it just tries to get a buzz-worthy act, whether it’s Ozzy’s return tour or Celine Dion or Madona or effin’ Lady GaGa. I’m surprised they aren’t trying to get Sue Sylvester to lead some kind of demented cheerleader show.

And I WILL NOT hear anything bad about The Who. Stow that shit, Hudson! :-p

Oh, shit, kids. If there’s one thing you do not do, it is slander Madonna under Hypnotoad’s watch.

Fan-Ann — I kind of think that Cher has had a shit-ton more enhancement surgery than Madonna.

With all due respect: Suck it, Madonna haters! At least she actually sings during her concerts — none of this auto-tuned, lip-snyching crap. And she’s recording a new album with William Orbit, so hopefully it’ll either be out by the time the Super Bowl comes around or she’ll give us a preview of some new material. And the Super Bowl could hire a developmentally disabled monkey throwing his own poop at the audience and it would STILL be better than that crap the Black Eyed Peas passed off as “entertainment” last year.

Y’all can complain all you want about Madonna, but you cannot deny that she always puts on a kick-ass show.

Madonna then, Madonna now, Madonna forever.

I find her very good at what she does (with the exception of directing maybe..). I adore her music and showmanship. I know my 30 something, football loving husband would not mind watching her middleaged toned buttocks and her always very talented female dancers on stage.

Hypnotoad…I’m totally with you on the lack of talent that is the Black-Eyed Peas. And I still say autotune is the work of the Devil. If you need autotune, then singing should not be your career choice.

Hypnotoad, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I bow to your Madonna love. Cher has definitely had tons of work. IMO it is just better done, or maybe it’s her incredible genes at work. Madonna will bring an energetic set and fabulous dancers. Maybe we won’t be able to see close-ups of her problem that the annual meeting of UK plastic surgeons focused on last week…..”pillow face”……the result of overuse of fillers. I’ll go hide now. **hears distant thunder**

Hahahaha! Watch. The eff. Out. For my wrath, I mean.

I’m scary in my defense of Madonna. I’m the first to admit it. She has just never given a shit and I find that completely admirable and fabulous. Completely unlike Lady Gaga, Madonna never set/sets out to be inherently controversial. It’s not her intent. She just does whatever the hell she wants and if it causes controversy, so be it. That’s what fascinated me when I was a kid and “Like a Virgin” was forbidden awesomeness and that’s what still fascinates me to this day.

If you have some time and you’re interested in a crappy made-for-tv movie from the early 90s, you can watch the entire “Innocence Lost”– completely unauthorized and embellished Madonna “biopic” on YouTube. It. Is. Horrible. And awesome.

GO HYPNOTOAD!!!! I was ecstatic when I heard this news!!! I am SO ONBOARD with seeing Madoona take the halftime stage.

I’m a stone cold Madonna fan. I now finally have a chance to mimic all of her dance moves in front of onlookers without harsh judgement. My body is ready.

I’m happy we can all agree that Black Eyed Peas SUCKED.

I disagree. Her career decisions have been both calculated and shrewd. The changes in image (like David Bowie.) The choice of controversial material and visual images (desecrating many Catholic images and icons on stage and in videos…posing nekkid for a coffee table book.) It’s always been about keeping her name in the headlines and self-promotion.

I’m not faulting her, as this was the career she wanted. I am just arguing with the whole idea she isn’t as “focused” as Lady Gaga and others like the two of them.

“Completely unlike Lady Gaga, Madonna never set/sets out to be inherently controversial.”

Sorry Hypnotoad, I call complete BS on that statement. Everything from her rolling around on a stage in a wedding dress “feeling like a virgin” to her sex book to the Like a Prayer video, has ALWAYS been calculated. Quite brilliantly – she’s an excellent businessman and she’s earned her accolades. But not intentionally controversial….please.

zerocool — I used the qualifier “inherently” for a reason. I never used the word “intentionally.” And obviously what she does is planned out. But she doesn’t cause controversy just for controversy’s sake and I don’t think she ever has. She’s an envelope and boundary pusher, to be sure, but it comes from a place of “f**k it, I’ll do what I want” rather than “how can I piss everybody off and/or get the most attention?” Which I think is the rationale of every young female pop star nowadays.

I agree with Hypnotoad, although I’m not as adamant in my support. I mean come on, Gaga’s meat dress was not to make a statement about anything, it was for attention only. She wants people to talk about her and talk about her often. Madonna was at least trying to tell a story with her attention seeking behavior.
Anyway, Modonna will be fine for the show, but nobody will even be better than sexy ass Prince playing his guitar in the rain.

Donate the stupid amt of money they put into a half time show to families of dead soldiers who’s death benefit’s have ended.

It always pissed me off when I see the jets flying in formation to represent lost lives when I know the “artist” on the ground just got paid a trunkfull of money to perform.

That’s why I get the cow off the grill, put the food out and urinate during halftime. Dont want to see a nipple, hear auto-tune, or look at jiggly arms..

What would we do during halftime if we didnt have to pee and needed to watch something? How about like in the olden days when the local schools would perform? Bands cheerleaders etc..

I am not a pollyanna by any means, but this has always been an extreme waste of money in my opinion.

If we start thinking about all forms of entertainment as being a “waste of money,” and then ceased supporting them, this site would have nothing left to cover.

I see no problem with charging what the market will pay. It’s called captalism, and it works pretty well.

  26. 26
    Posted October 3, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Agreed, cattyfan. That was the point I pretty much wanted to make — it’s all entertainment, entertainers are overpaid, that’s the way the world works.

    Posted October 3, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Comparing professional sports to a usually stunk up half time show isn’t the same.

People “waste” money on all kinds of things. And many times wasteful spending brings jobs to those that don’t have the funds to waste. It works.

The halftime show is useless in my opinion. The only person or persons getting anything out of it is the “talent”. And, of course, the advertisers. There is no trickle down..the stadium staff are already there..They have “their people”..

I also remember a few years ago when they started the game after a halftime show and you couldnt even see the field because of the smoke..grr..

Btw, Hypno I was the one that forged on and got you your big post count back when..go easy baby :-)

But you’re right KittKatt, no one will beat Prince’s performance. They only think they could top it with is if they have Prince again and let Sheila E sing Glamorous Life. And an Apollonia appearance.

The Black Eyed Peas were the BIG SUCK for sure. I just hold a mild grudge toward Madonna having sean her the day her divorce was final. I don’t know that I’d say only men, but mostly men. The viewing percentages are probably around 75-25 (give or take 5%) in the favor of men who watch the Super Bowl versus women so you would want an artist that appeals to your target demographic.

I love the superbowl and I LOVE Madonna! Bitch still puts on one of THE greatest live shows!!! Suck it haters! We should all be her age and still have her energy and talent. I am a fraction of her age and I couldn’t sing (LIVE) and dance for 2 hours like she does. Even today’s performers say they have to lipsync to get through a performance. If I had to pick my “well-past middle age, skeltetal, ugly slut writhe about and sing old pop songs” then I’d rather it be Madge than Mick Jagger, who I was already subjected to.

OMG! @ sassygrl72–HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! That had me howling after this spirited debate. I’m glad Hypno is here giving the good fight for Madge! I truly think she is one of the most influencial artists of all time. I don’t know why she isn’t more revered! I get that she bristled some peoples religious thoughts, or sex thoughts or whatever . . . but there’s no one like her. since they already had one of her many imitators, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty, I see no reason not to bring out the original. (I will further clarify that Miss Jackson used to dis Madonna, then just started stealing all her stuff, and never, ever, ever singing live on any of the shows she appeared on.)

ps. I don’t hate Janet, it just always bugged me that she’d lip sync her head off on the Grammy’s or whatever, and yet, they always accuse Madonna of doing it . . . and never criticize Janet. Ms. Spears has brought it even lower with her entirely lip synced tour . . . im just sayin’

The issues and insults because of her age are a silly reason not to have her do the SuperBowl-IMHO . . . That list is pretty skewed toward older artists. Last time I saw Madonna it looked like she may have put a little weight on, her arms were less lumpy–a good thing!

I can’t wait for her new album, Hard Candy was one of her best, IMHO again. But hey, don’t listen to me, I like the BEP’s (tho they have gone down a bumpy road of late) Didn’t see them on the superbowl tho.

And I’m glad Madonna can still get a headline by not liking Hydrangea’s . . . hee . . . she didn’t even have to kiss it!

Even the Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You is such a rare and biting track . . . I have to love!!!

One thing I’ll also say about Madonna . . her singing has really improved since Evita. She used to be rather hit or miss, but still fun. Now she does rather well, even with Live to Tell low notes.
