Super Bowl: Ravens Win, The Halftime Show, The Blackout, And More…

The Super Bowl came and went. It was a good game. I was a little bummed that the 49ers lost, but I wasn’t a die hard fan of either team…lets face it, I’m not a die hard fan of any team. It’s all sports ball to me ;-)

But the most interesting part of the evening was the blackout they experienced. How bizarre was that? I’m pretty sure that Beyonce and the Destiny’s Child reunion blew the lights out. But nonetheless, it was good drama and had people talking. As for the halftime show, I thought Beyonce did a great job—she certainly wasn’t lip-syncing–in fact, she sang the sh*t out of her songs. And the Destiny’s Child reunion after six plus years was really fun to watch. They’ve all come a long way…Jesus, Beyonce married Jay-Z, and had his baby. I can’t say it was my favorite halftime of all-time, but it certainly beat the stinky turd that Madonna left on stage last year.

My opinion? I think it’s time for the Super Bowl to go back to rock ‘n’ roll next year.

Here’s the halftime show, in case you missed it:

Sandy Hook Elementary School Choir and Jennifer Hudson (this was truly moving):

And in case you missed it, here’s Alicia Keys singing The National Anthem…she killed it!

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Happy to see the Ravens win. I love Ray Lewis but I especially love Ed Reed. I really thought Jim Harbugh was going to have a heart attack on the field. Why is he soooooooooooo angry? It’s almost comical.

Enjoyed the half time show. Even though I HATE the single ladies song I love to see her perform it with hundreds of girls doing the dance. It always looks so awesome.

It sure was a nice change to have the GAME be more interesting than the commercials.

Alicia Keys did OK…seemed a little shaky at some points. No one could ever top Whitney Houston’s rendition at some sporting event during the pre-crack years.

I’m just sick of Beyonce. Time for us to obsess over someone new.

Beyonce’s performance is the only thing I watched. I liked it. It could have been a lot better if the camera work hadn’t been so crappy.

I’ve never been a big Beyonce fan so I didn’t even watch the halftime show. @Tracy, I have to agree that it was pretty hard to beat a precrack Whitney.

Whitney sang over a backing track that time, too, you know. Jus’ sayin’. I don’t love her any less for it.

Oh, and she’s did crack? I wanna see the receipts.

Yasss to Beyonce blowing out the lights with her fierceness.
I actually think it could have been better, but it was still mad good.
Had me booty popping and dutty wining and twerking all over my living room.
Kelly and Michelle randomly popping out from holes in the ground was also quite entertaining.

Didn’t really watch the football portion of the festivities….

Keep checking to see if Ray Lewis committed any felonies this time around. Time to hang up the deer antlers and retire.

I am a Cleveland fan, so I hate the Ravens just outta bad blood. But i think Ray Lewis is an a**, sorry @Classy Drunk, no offense.

I am sure the folly of the lights was without amazing jokes. “Even the lights gave u p on the 49ers. Hope Ray Lewis doesn’t stab anybody.” “Who killed the lights? Ray Lewis ain’t saying.” Bwhahaha.

And halftime shows bore me. Like most singers anymore, it’s all flashy BS. Browns, 2014! (Ha!)

I felt like she was screaming the entire time…..Ehhh, not for me. Next year can we bring back Michael Jackson’s ghost, or the hologram thing like they did with Tupac??

Classy – he behaves like a petulant child. He always reacts so angrily. What in the hell was he so mad about the last play? Did he not see Crabtree’s hand on Smith’s head? I had a good laugh when they lost.

As a Lions fan, don’t even get me started on my hatred for Jim Harbaugh…..can’t stand him ever since his antics with our coach after they won the game back in 2011.

Deadspin (the website that broke the Manti Te’o story) has the BEST gifts of him acting like a child. I give you exhibit A

Lab, I totally forgot Harbaugh was the quarterback! EEK.

Also, other Harbaugh is not totally innocent…….during the blackout yesterday he was completely bitching some guy out. I saw him drop a few F-Bombs and he was really letting this poor dude have it. I don’t know who he was, Superbowl chairman? Superdome Owner? New Orleans Electrician Union Rep?

Either way, he was acting like an asshole. What’s with these Har-Baby Brothers?

Annie I understand John going berserk as the black out crushed the momentum the Ravens had going and gave a chance for the 49ers to rest and regroup. And we saw what happened – 49ers scored 4 times. I am not a Ravens fan, but it seems John is much calmer in the head compared to Jim.

Classy – this is my favorite moment as only an idiot fights with a cop when you have been pulled over for a DUI. On November 2nd, 2005, Harbaugh was arrested on a charge of drunken driving after running a stop sign. He reportedly got into an argument with the arresting officer and was threatened with an obstruction of justice charge as well.

Plus John is the good looking one. :-)

Glad to see my Ravens win!!! – though not looking forward to getting to work tomorrow with the parade going on. I’m so jealous of my friends who’s offices are closing to let them go to the festivities. My boss thinks the world will collapse if we miss an hour of time.

@ lab…I get you. Johh H. was more calm and collected throughout the game than his brother….I just didn’t like the way he chewed out that schmo on the sidelines. Also, did not know about the DUI arrest! Interesting!

Also did you catch his post-game interview, before they gave him the trophy?
Reporter: What’d you say to your brother after the game?
John: “I told him I loved him”
Reporter: and what’d he say to you?
    John: “congratulations”
…..my whole living room errupted with laughter.

@mere…congrats on the win! Your boss sucks!!! When the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup back in 2008, we went to the parade. It was the HOTTEST day ever in Detroit, but it was so fun!! I think you should sneak out, or at the very least, tie your boss up so you can escape!

Also, what did everyone think about the commercials? Seems the Budweiser Clydesdale “Fleetwood Mac” was the fav, I thought it was SO CHEESEBALL!!! Cringeworthy, for sure.
I liked the Tide “Miracle Joe Montana” stain the best.

    @sarcas re \Oh, and she’s did crack? I wanna see the receipts.\

That reminded me of the skit Jay Leno did years ago when he made it seem as if he were interviewing Whitney. When she said Show me the receipts, he pulled out a box of receipts. It was HILARIOUS.

As I’m from New Orleans & many of my FB friends are from there (or still there), the jokes were FLYING about the blackout. That was the most entertaining part of the whole thing.

I thought the Oreo ad was brilliant!!!!

Think about it, they released it immediatley, didn’t cost them a penny, and everyone is talking about it!!!!!
All those companies who paid millions for an actual commercial look pretty dumb right now.

I think this will be the future of Super Bowl advertising….

so, fun fact: Jim Harbaugh was once QB for the Raves. small world, ain’t it?

@annie — to be fair, John apologized for his behavior (yelling at the NFL exec) in his post-game interview. he explained that the blackout wiped out all of the communications equipment for the ravens, so they were asking about how to move all of their coordinators from the booth down to the field. the exec’s response was basically \you’ll just have to wait & see.\ considering that it’s the friggin championship game, i guess john found the response unacceptable and said so very clearly ;)

with all of the nfl;s talk about \protect/respect the shield\ it really was absolute bs that no league rep was available on camera during the blackout and that they passed off a half-assed statement to the announcers some time during the 4th quarter. yes, the blackout was unexpected, but if you’re going to champion how professional and great the league is, then you make sure the biggest game of the entire season has back-up plans a-z (at least) for everything and anything that could go wrond.

@annie (again) – to be fair, i’m from baltimore and a die hard ravens fan, so i’ll admit complete and utter bias in my previous statements.

@classy — hells yes to both ray lewis and ed reed! i can see why so many people are over lewis, but when the rest of the league and media shit on our city, he does a lot for us. his passion for the game is crazy and he really tries to uplift his team mates and other players in the league as much as possible. as for reed, when i was in college, miami was the biggest rival in our football conference, and i still rocked a UM tee w/his # around campus. he rocks and i teared up when it was his turn to hoist the lombardi.

I’m from Balto too Mere. I work downtown so I had to go over to City Hall for the start of the parade. That’s what’s going on in Pepper’s video. I’m not really a football fan but I couldn’t pass it by (and I’d gone in 2001, too).

Ed Reed is a stupendously bad singer! But, he was very accommodating to the fans. Someone in my Weight Watcher’s group tonight said she was along the parade with her Jack Russell. Ed had the Vince Lombardi trophy and was walking around and letting fans touch it. He came up to her and she touched it and put her dogs paws on it.

And you Cleveland fans quit yer bitchin. You got an NFL team much faster after your team left than Baltimore did when ours was snuck out in the dead of night with the colors, name and everything. It took Baltimore 13 years to get another NFL team. Cleveland got one after three years. I’m sure there’s some bitterness in Cleveland. But, you’re not going to find much sympathy from B’more.
Baltimore loves it’s football and it was deprived of it for so long. I think that’s part of the reason we’ve been in full freakout mode. The stadium was full to capacity the other day. People were climbing the walls trying to get in.

Speaking of Baltimore, The National Anthem is from here too. Alicia Keys did an OK job. It was too slow for my taste. You can’t speed thru but it’s like ripping a bandaid off. Just do it and get it over with.
