Did you get a chance to watch The Grammys last night? If you didn’t catch it, here are the cliff notes… Adele and her goldilocks cleaned house winning Album of the Year (among other categories), and Jennifer Hudson did an exceptional job on her tribute to Whitney Houston. Everything else was business as usual. If you haven’t watched it yet, and have it DVR’d, I’d say it’s a good one to watch.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

What the fuckidity fuck fuck was Nicki Minaj doing? The only thing good about her performance was fine ass Drake introducing her. Madonna and Lady Gaga should sue.

I heart Adele and those beautiful eyes. And Jennifer Hudson…thank you. It was lovely.

OMG. And I forgot to write–what the fuck was Gaga wearing. It was soooo lame!

This was just Minaj trying to get the headlines and attention her buddy MIA got last week for flipping people off during the Super Bowl. But this is what people with no talent do. They create a spectacle so they can still have attention.

However, note to Nicki: The “mock Catholics” thing has already been done by several other performers. If you REALLY want to be edgy, try making fun of a bris or an honor killing.

    Hudson was extrordinary.

Oh…I also found the In Memoriam segment to beep unsatisfying. Left off the list (among others) were these folks:

    Gerry Rafferty, Stealers Wheel
Gladys Horton, lead singer of the Marvelettes
    Johnny Preston, singer, “Running Bear”
    Jimmy Roselli, singer, “Mala Femmina”
Rob Grill, singer, The Grass Roots
    Jani Lane, singer, Warrant
Don Cornelius, Music innovator, host of Soul Train
    Mike Starr, Alice in Chains
Jim Sherwood, music collaborator with Frank Zappa

Catty, I know…I was a little thrown by the exclusion of some names there. I think the pacing of the show was off and things got rushed.

LAC…I would love to be as charitable as you in finding a reason those names and others were skipped…but the In Memoriam segment is packaged several weeks in advance, and could have been re-edited to stay within the time but still include more names.

I don’t think TPTB tried very hard.

I thought Gaga looked beautiful. And not because her face was covered up LOL, she really did look nice. Her outfit was out there, but when is it not?

Soo proud of Adele! I’ve been telling people about her since I first heard her on MySpace, and it’s so great to finally see her getting the recognition she deserves. She also looked absolutely amazing at the awards. So beautiful and classy.

Nicki embarrassed her whole life. I bet she really thought she was doing something profound with that nonsense. All she did was remind people why her ass ain’t win nothing.

Taylor Swift doesn’t deserve a damn thing for Mean. It sounds like five year old wrote that shit, I’m sure there were other people who deserved it more. She gets on my nerve.

Bon Iver was the most adorable person ever with his awkward self.
Also love how Dave Grohl walked up on stage and called out most of the people in that room on their lack of talent and their overuse of gimmicks and autotune. Adele’s performance followed by Nicki Minaj’s nonsense underscored his point too. The Foo Fighters also gave some of the best performances of the night, so big claps to them.

Rihanna and Coldplay sounded like they were slaughtering cats during their duet. She should have lipsynced or they should have reversed the order of the performances and done Paradise – duet – We Found Love.

Chris Brown is not R&B, he did not need to be in that category. That award should have gone to Ledesi.

JHud did a beautiful job in the tribute. People were all mad that there wasn’t more of a tribute, but that’s dumb, because they didn’t even have time to rearrange the show around that and then people who were close to Whitney Houston were not in any mood to get up on a stage and sing. For the time they had, I think they did a clean and nice job…much better than that ratchet nonsense BET desperately tried to pull together when MJ died.

And Lupe Fiasco should have taken it for Lasers. Kanye’s album was alright, but not as good as Lasers.

    The End.

Rihanna DID lipsynch part of her performance. There were times she forgot to put the mic up to her face while she was busy “dancing.” But that’s okay…all the machinery she uses covered it up.

Bruno Mars was my favorite performance. I think Lady Gaga was wearing a fishing net mourning veil in honor of Whitney Houston. Adele is incredible, and after watching her interview with Anderson Cooper, I dig her even more. Crack is wack.

No Grammy love for Mumford & Sons? That’s a damn shame.

I was really afraid that this was going to turn into THE WHITNEY HOUSTON MEMORIAL GRAMMY SHOW (and oh, by the way, we are giving out some awards too). So glad it didn’t. I think LL Cool J’s prayer at the beginning and Jennifer Hudson’s song were enough to acknowledge her death and her musical legacy without turning the Grammys into a farce.

I have to add my shout-out to Adele. Love her voice, love how real she is and how real she looks (well, minus the fake eyelashes!). When you sound like that, you don’t need all the hoop-la to make yourself stand out in the crowd. So glad she got the acknowledgment she deserves.

Hooray for Adele! But the highlight of the night (besides Bruno Mars’ performance – he is so fun to watch!) was Dave Grohl’s speech. LOVE. THE. FOOS!

@catty, great! Today, for the first time in a week, “Somebody That I Used To Know” wasn’t playing in a loop in my head. Now it’s back .. thx for everyone’s comments about “Music’s Greatest Night”. I agree that Adele’s comeback was super-riffic, but I was a little surprised that no one in the audience threw rotten vegetables at Chris Brown. I can forgive him after a few years, but it’s not my place to do so. How did he keep the court-ordered space between himself and Ms. Robyn Rihanna back stage? Did they have a line of tape on the floor back there or something?

My favorite parts were two different speeches: Dave Grohl’s speech about what real music is, and Bon Iver’s backhanded compliment about why he really shouldn’t have been accepting a grammy. It was a nice contrast to the hot mess that was Nikki Minaj (for reals, wtf was that?!?).

Why were the Civil Wars allowed to perform a minute-long snippet of “Barton Hollow”, and then Taylor Swift allowed to perform “Mean” in full right after? If that isn’t a slap in the face to good musicians everywhere, I don’t know what is.

My friend and I watched the whole show, mainly to see J-Hud sing “I will always love you”… So lovely, although I wish she had been able to sing the whole song (maybe they were short on time, or she couldn’t keep it together to do more than one verse & chorus- rumors were she had trouble keeping her composure during rehearsal).
As for Nikki Minaj… my friend and I watched in silence. Finally, he said, “Is this music?” I think that sums it up. I mean, Lady Gaga does the spectacle thing too, but at least she’s an amazing singer.

@apple, she got it overturned. I wish everyone would stop harping on that though. He performed (could of been better) and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

When Nicki came on, I glanced at the screen and started playing the game on my phone. Its like, okay, we get it. You went to performing arts school. But, since you are a rapper/warbler, rap. Follow Drakes lead and stick to it. I’m over her and the whole United Nations colab she has in her brain.

ApplePie…I’ve been listening to Gotye since late last fall. Eyes Wide Open is nearly as insidious as Somebody I Used To Know. I LOVE HIM!!!

And I would like to know why Civil Wars was given a sad little minute while Nicki Minaj was given around six for whatever the hell she did.
