The Hills Finale, Thoughts?

I don’t have a long thought out piece on why The Hills was so important to me, or how I’m so sad it ended, because I think I’ve covered The Hills enough in my 3 years at TVgasm. The show went from being my obsession to being dead to me, but because the show was such a staple on my DVR for the past 4 years, I owed it to myself to watch it to the bitter end.

I loved The Hills during the LC days, as most did, but when Kristin came on the scene it became JUST another dumb show. All the B-characters had A-story lines, and Heidi, and Spencer became monsters–hence, why I hated the show…anyway, no use crying over the show ending, because it was about time they ended the series. However, I do want to touch up on the last scene of the finale–the movie set after the Brody/Kristin good-bye. Was that their little joke that they drummed up for us little viewers? I could see them thinking of it in the story room, and then telling the actors–then, they all laugh, and say, “wow, hahahhahaha…that’s amazing, we’ll show them–real or fake, I guess we’ll only know.” I HATED that they did that, it was dumb.

Here’s the thing about that show–they wish it was ALL fake because they’d be deemed as good actors, and while the show was heavily beated with beginning, middle, and ends, the characters were just playing a version of themselves…so yes, it was fake, but they were still themselves. And, NO they didn’t film the dumb show on a movie lot…we all know that…MTV: we’re not idiots, so don’t give us the middle finger.

The only part of the finale that I enjoyed was the Finale Aftershow party. I know we didn’t get any extra information from anyone on that couch, but it was nice to see Lauren come out on the end. The Finale party took away my intense hate for the past two seasons for that one hour, and let me enjoy what I used to love.

Anyway, the Final episode was ehhh, but I will never forget that whole series–I was a die-hard fan from Laguna Beach to the bitter end. Thank you, Hills.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Thank you, Nads! I was thinking the exact same thing. I should’ve quit watching when Lauren left…I think the series wouldn’t have ended like this if she were still around. In MTV’s efforts to say F.U. to the haters, they managed to cheapen the experience for us hardcore fans. As if I didn’t already feel cheap enough after putting up with the likes of Jayde Nicole, HeiDEMONtag and He Of The Flesh-Colored Beard! Thanks a lot, assholes…

I have to agree that the ending SUCKED! I knew it wasn’t real but the ending burst my bubble of pretending it was. I enjoyed watching it since the Laguna Beach days and the way they ended it ruined it for me. It was a guilty pleasure and I feel like the ending was a big FU to the real fans like them saying “ha ha we fooled you”. I agree it would have ended differently if Lauren was still on it. They should have left it with everyone going there separate ways.

I was glad to see Lauren and happy she ended up with a boatload of money and she is really pretty.

Then there’s Heidi who ended up married to a douche bag, ruined her face and has a laughable figure suited for porn or striping. Too bad Heidi didn’t know it was fiction. I feel sorry for her.

I agree the ending was dumb. It cheapened the whole series, which is saying something, considering the show started whoring itself out a long time ago.

Except for the finale, I haven’t watched an episode since Lauren left. I’ve enjoyed the stupidity from afar thanks to our lovely tvgasm recappers. I do think MTV could make something of Kristin’s time in Europe (if that was actually real) but again, I doubt I’d watch it.

It was sweet indeed to see Lauren and Kristin standing together chatting during the aftershow. Lauren is so pretty and it looks like she’s aging naturally, unlike her former costars. I liked her little dig at the (mostly manufactured) later years of the show… “when you choose to share your life with an audience, you should show it all.” (A bit hypocritical though, as she removed most of her personal life from the last couple of seasons she was on).
