The Olsen Twins are officially retiring from acting at the ripe at of 25-years-old. The two of them want to focus on the next chapter of their life–fashion. They told Elle UK, “We worked non-stop until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress…I don’t have to be a pretty face. I’ve done that, but now it’s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore.”

Life must have been so stressful being “a pretty face.” I love that they’re done with being pretty, and feel liberated. It’s like they’ve freed themselves from pretty jail and they collectively decided it. Think they had an Olsen town hall about this? I wonder what it’s like to experience a mid-life crisis at the ripe age of 25???

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Is this news? Have they acted in anything in the past 5 years? It’s probably best for them anyway. They are terrible actors but they seem like pretty smart girls. I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Yeah, are you really retiring from something if you haven’t done it in years?

Shoot, aren’t those twins supposed to be worth like $1 billion?
One of them was in that movie “Beastly” which sank like a lead boat at the box office.

And they’re going into fashion – wow what a stretch. Can any of these females do a Hedy Lamar? Show everyone how really smart you are by inventing the better microchip or something.

They’ve been acting? Who would hire those little troll-faced waifs anyway? The Lord of The Rings triology is over.

Less a midlife crisis than realizing their human-sized younger sister is the “pretty face” now.

One of them did a pretty good stint as a troubled con teen in Samantha Who (I think that was the show). However I think the industry already chose to retire them.

“I don’t want to be a pretty face” says the girl on the cover of Elle.

They’ve given up acting to dress up like raccoons?

Mary Kate (I think) was in Weeds a few years back and did a great job, I thought. I can’t imagine the stress of being insanely famous by the time you’re three years old, and then having to stay in the limelight whether you chose to or not until you are legal adults. I hope they do well; thus far they seem to have avoided the typical child-star path of multiple scandals & rehab stits.

Actually, it’s not the Olsen twins, it’s Ashley Olsen. I read this interview yesterday, there wasn’t any mention of Mary-Kate who – as has been pointed out in the comments above – has been acting.

I haven’t seen them acting in a New York minute.

    (see what I did there?)

So I guess this means we’re never getting that sequel to The Adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley: The Case of the Logical i Ranch? Bummer, there were so many unanswered questions

I was a huge Olsen fan growing up, but from what I’ve read they had a pretty miserable childhood and I’m sorry for that. Kids are supposed to play and have fun, not be essentially forced to work by their parents, managers, lawyers, etc. That being said, they did have a good lawyer and at least, unlike some child stars, they have some money in the bank. I think the “quarterlife” crisis is pretty common for our generation. My friend just lent me two books to read about it. We’re one of the first generations who can really do whatever they want to (vs. being pushed into a family business, etc.) and it is overwhelming.
