The Olympics Closing Ceremonies last night were less than stellar. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I wasn’t expecting the show I watched. It was, how do you call it???? Theatrical?

As soon as I got over how choppy the show was, I sat back and enjoyed the bands and the show, but for a closing ceremonies…YIKES, WTF was that??? Spice Girls were cool, George Michael was cool too, and Russell Brand was good…really…all of the performers were great, but there was no cohesiveness to the show whatsoever.

This was me watching the show (I’m the cat):

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

We laughed about the costumes at the beginning and papercovered cars. Then we laughed when the TV announcers kept referring to “The Who” will be later in the program like this band this the BEST BAND EVER. I am still sleeping through their Superbowl performance. Then it was over and “The Who” still were not on.

Way to drop the ball NBC. How can’t you get the editing correct and it’s not live? Then you hype up The Who the whole show then you cut them short?!?!!??

I like the Fashion segment of the show and the Spice Girls. George Michael DUH….Amaze.

I always thought the Pet Shop Boys said Western girls meaning girls from California. Last night I learned that they are a British band and they are saying “West End Girls”. That makes so much sense now.

I snorted a little at classy’s ‘West End Girls’ confusion.

I chose to not watch the closing ceremonies as I knew NBC would screw the hell out of them.

They do not disappoint with how well they disappoint.

Nads …. Yes indeed, what the eff was that? The Rio introduction was like an acid trip. I was almost expecting a segment dedicated to the brazillian wax. Even Pele was like “wtf”?
I also liked Rio / brazil’s contribution to their local culture was basically a Brazilian supermodel shuffling around. Like the organizers were like “hey let’s cut to the chase here: carnival, models: BOOM! Rio 2016″

Ehhhhh always sad to see the olympics come to an end.

NBC doesn’t know how to edit ANYTHING! So many confusing shots and choices. Geez, I was yelling at the TV throughout the whole telecast. Nothing about their choices of shots made any sense. I especially appreciated how they got a close up of JUST ONE petal when the entire “flower” of torches were being put out. Way to go. The best part was watching the teaser for Rio. I just know that they know how to put on a show! Hopefully NBC can find a way of upping their quality of coverage.

All Olympic opening and closing ceremonies have gotten to be WTFWT. They’re like a regurgitation of everything you’ve eaten your whole life wrapped up in noise, fireworks, gyrating people, moving shapes and creatures and after-burps of Bob Costas, Al Michaels and Ryan Seacrest.

I did like the Kaiser Chiefs and that giant inflated, see-through octopus. Was Blur shown? I know NBC hacked up the coverage and some stuff was cut out, but I was going back and forth with a DVR’d Stephen Colbert show during commercials and might have missed them. I’m sure glad Jessie J isn’t so popular here in the States. She was ubiquitous last night, and whose idiotic idea was it for her to stand in for Freddie Mercury? That’s no way to show respect for the dead. Oh, and what was that creepy giant marshmallow-pillow puzzle of John Lennon’s face all about? I’m feeling bilious again. – Urp! -

I know I’ve said it before but seriously Americanos, if you are able to pick up the Canadian stations (some cities relatively close to the border can, I’m told), watch the Olympics on CTV. Canadian coverage is 10 million times better than American because the announcers just let it be, they don’t feel the need to fill every second of air time with mundane yapping. And they’ve never cut any part of the ceremonies off, as far as I know.

I agree that the closing ceremony was a bit all over the place but like you I did enjoy seeing all of the acts perform, especially the Spice Girls and Russell Brand. Although it was a bit scatter-brained, I thought the show did well at fitting everything in the time allotted. Luckily my Dish coworker suggested I upgrade to the Hopper, which automatically recorded the ceremony for me, with the Prime Time Anytime feature. I love this feature because it automatically records all shows on major networks on during prime time. It’s so convenient and I love not having to set up timers and not missing my favorite events.

OMG I’m laughing so hard at some of these comments; I’m gonna get in trouble here at work. I thought the Spice Girls were good but kept hoping the Kinks would show up. Rio’s ceremonies should be interesting…

Yeah, it was a hot mess.
And if they spent more time focusing on the show instead of letting the athletes stare down the camera and blow kisses, maybe that would have solved some of the problem. They couldn’t even focus on the right athletes at that…I didn’t need to see Hope Solo and her soccer friend every two seconds.
The only part that was really worthwhile was the Spice Girls, the giant octopus, and when that singing Brazilian chick rolled across the stage on a giant float.

I also would like to know who thought it was a good idea to let Jessie J of all people step into Freddie Mercury’s shoes. Like…really? There was n0 better choice in all of Great Britain?
    Come on.

And then today, I found out that NBC will not be televising the Paralympics at all.
I’m gonna need ABC to storm NBC’s headquarters and take that contract by force. These games were the best I’ve seen in my admittedly short lifetime, but that closing ceremony was like eating a fine steak dinner and then being served shitcake for dessert.

I thought the fashion bit was stupid. I thought Bowie was coming up. Annie Lennox was awesome. George Michael should have been singing with Queen. Jessie J did fine with her stuff but stay away from my Queen please! Eric Idle totally owned it!!!! Can’t beat roller skating nuns and dancing knights. I’m sorry, but Russell Brand creeps me out. Kaiser Chiefs were good. And, you had to stay up until 12 AM to catch The Who. At least they did more than one song.
The Rio thing was a little out there. But, I’ve never been to Carnivale so maybe it’s like that.
If it was a celebration of British music where was Elton John, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, or Sting?
    It was certainly a spectacle.
Where was Prince William BTW? I saw Harry and Kate but no Wills.

Forgot to mention that Channel4 in the UK is providing full coverage of the Paralympics.
I’m going to try and catch some events online. Here’s a bit of info.

    http://paralympics.channel4.com/whats-on/index.html

And, yes, it sucks majorly that the US doesn’t have a TV network with the balls to cover the Paralympics. You’d think with the 200,000 channels we have on the tube these days someone could manage to cover this!
