Last night’s Academy Awards was a snooze fest. My God was Seth MacFarlane bad! I didn’t think it’d be great going into it, but it was a total bust. I almost missed Anne Hathaway and James Franco for a minute. Seth’s jokes were flat–and I felt horrible for William Shatner for even being roped into all of it…even he couldn’t save Seth. And poor Melissa McCarthy, I LOVE her, but just to show how bad the telecast was–even she fell flat, and that takes work!
I have a question, if the show was supposed to be a tribute to musicals, I didn’t get that. Sure there was singing and music throughout, but the whole show was choppy. Their first mistake was making the show a “celebration of music.” I love musicals, I just don’t know if it should be a theme for The Academy Awards.
I personally feel like the Oscars have just gotten too old and they’re trying too hard to make it “hip.” They needed Amy Poehler and Tina Fey to host this puppy. They did a fantastic job with the Globes. It was light, it was funny, and everyone was in on it. I know they can’t host everything, but they should consider it for the sake of saving the Oscars. I could go on for hours about this…Let’s just get to it…
Here’s what I liked:
Shirley Bassey – Wow, she looked amazing and girl can still sing at her age!
Halle Barre – she just looked stunning. She didn’t do anything, just looked good.
Charlize Theron the dancing machine. Who knew?
Jennifer Hudson was fantastic, and flawless…
Adele…and her speech. I loved that she just bailed on her speech because she was so emotional.
Michelle Obama- that was a nice surprise.
Sally Field’s quick bit with Seth- cute.
Here’s what I didn’t like or thought was tacky (partial list):
Seth MacFarlane – across the board. Bad, boring, tacky and not funny.
Quentin Tarantino – He just drives me crazy. He’s one talented mo-fo, but I can’t stand his arrogance.
The Jaws soundtrack to tell people to wrap it up – tacky.
Kristen Stewart–she looked like she just rolled out of bed. Dude, we get it, you’re too cool for the Oscars. Give it up, already.
Meryl Streep – Love her, but didn’t love that she didn’t even open the enveloped to announce the winner. Ha.
Kristin Chenoweth – you all know I love her…I just didn’t love her performance at the end with Seth. I thought it was tacky and felt bad that she got roped into doing that dumb thing.
And the list goes on…
Here’s a list of the winners that were announced last night:
1. Best Picture: “Argo.”
2. Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, “Lincoln.”
3. Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook.”
4. Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained.”
5. Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, “Les Miserables.”
