Mark Burnett and NBC are serious about competing against the other music shows on TV because they’re going after big names to judge The Voice. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that NBC is in serious discussions with Cee-Lo Green and Adam Levine (Maroon 5) to judge the show…and rumor is that they’re even going after Christina Aguilera. I wonder if she’ll do it…it could be her chance to repair her image. I like the idea of having pop stars judge the show rather than A&R types, it’ll be a great new take on a typical music show. Plus, with Carson hosting, it looks like NBC is trying to take the more relaxed, alternative approach to music. Either way, I hope it doesn’t suck.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I say “I like the idea of having pop stars judge the show rather than A&R types, it’ll be a great new take on a typical music show” very cautiously. It is a desperate attempt to make the show different, but you never know. The right judges combo, and the right format could make this show a stand-out.

The concept really really works here in Holland, where this show originated. If they keep the original concep, the popstars are going to be working verry closely with their own group of contestants, the contestants are going to battle it out agains each group and at the end the public will decide. Oh and it also starts with the judges only hearing the voice without seeing who is singing, So it’s a really fun show.

From what I’ve seen on the internet, the show is very animated in Holland, and looks super fun. I’m worried that when it comes to the U.S. they’ll cheese it up. I hope they won’t, b/c I love MOST music shows…but we’ll see! Could be huge!

The idea sort of sounds like the BBC shows they have wherein they have Andrew Lloyd-Weber and a series of judges who are in the musical theater business judging amateurs to try out for the lead in one of his musicals. There was one for Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, one for The Sound of Music (which isn’t Lloyd-Weber, but he was involved as a financier or something), etc. The audience gets to vote, too, though, although not those of us watching on BBC-America.

I love those shows because they show the competitors getting voice training, choreography, and acting lessons from the panelists.
