The show wasn’t as boring as it has been the past few years. I thought Neil Patrick Harris did a nice job hosting, and the show was of course painless to watch. If I had it my way I would have Ricky Gervais host…but Neil is a close second for me. And, he did a hell of a job on his opening number!

Here were some highlights for me:

-How the hell did Jon Cryer win for best supporting actor?? Two and a Half Men has now become According to Jim for me.

-Loved Sarah Silverman’s mustache…very funny.

-Who I was happy about: Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock, Toni Collette for United States of Tara, Kristin Chenoweth for Pushing Daisies, Glenn Close for Damages, and of course Mad Men for Outstanding drama.

-And LAST, but not least…

To the producers of Amazing Race: Pull yourself out of the Emmy race as Oprah did, and give other reality shows a chance. You’ve won how many years in a row now (Seven??)…enough already! Sheesh…give Top Chef a chance for once.

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I think the nominees for “Best Drama” are a perfect example of Hollywood’s diconnect from the rest of the country (and what the rest of the country wants to watch.)

Sigourney Weaver blathered on about how these dramas represented a return to the “golden age of television,” likening them to the top shows of the 50s…but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The nominees, while critically acclaimed, are not watched by the majority of the country. Most of the TV viewers are watching NCIS, Criminal Minds, and The Mentalist…all of which are excellent shows with quality actors, but none of which were nominated for “Best Drama.”

And why are these shows popular while the nomininated shows struggle for ratings? Because of the protagonists. People don’t usually watch TV to root for villains and immorality. And the nominated shows have protagonists who are a meth maker, a polygamist, a serial killer, a doctor whose ego and insanity drive him, and a group of men who seek success at all costs. The un-nominated dramas I mentioned are led by characters who, though not perfect and often conflicted, are on the right side of the law and are at least trying (most shows) to do the right thing.

Hollywood continues to ignore what the people really want, and reward only what they enjoy.
