Olympic Fun Fact: Czech gymnast Marie Provaznikova was the first Olympic athlete to defect during the Olympic Games. She defected during the 1948 London Olympics and sought asylum in the United States. Since 1948, at least 83 other athletes have used the Games as an opportunity to defect, primarily from the former Soviet Union. Many defection-prone countries have since implemented the practice of one “minder” per athlete, or holding the athlete’s families until the athletes have returned home.

XXX Summer Olympics (NBC 8pm) From London. Track and field, finals: men’s 4x400m relay, men’s pole vault, women’s 4x100m relay, women’s 1500m; diving: men’s platform qualifying; cycling: BMX finals.

I’m getting very, very tired of the Olympics.

Top 20 Country Countdown (GAC 8pm) Watershed Music Festival: George, Washington

The town of George, Washington, was founded by a man named Charlie Brown.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown! (SyFy 8pm) Chris Jericho invites Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero onto his controversial talk show, “The Highlight Reel.”

Great Performances (PBS 9pm) A celebration to mark Tanglewood’s 75th anniversary includes the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and artists Emanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Peter Serkin and James Taylor.

Put on your dancin’ shoes, folks, it’s gonna get crazy up in Tanglewood.

You Live in What? (HGTV) Unlikely homes include a grain bin, a radio station and a slaughterhouse.

The best part about living in an abbatoir are all of the handy hooks dangling down from the ceiling. You can hang your coat in a different place every day of the year.

America’s Most Wanted (Lifetime 9pm) A mother and daughter work together to fight against a rapist; a woman vanishes after her boyfriend goes on the lam to evade drug charges; a gang of robbers terrorizes the streets of Palm Beach County.

People in Palm Beach feel terrorized if you don’t park in the right spot.

Say Yes to the Dress (TLC 9pm) Episode: Staying True Before Saying I Do — Indian bride Rashi wants an Americanized gown; Katie will be having two wedding ceremonies; Shenelle is nervous about seeing her custom color dress.

I find the episode title to be very misleading.

Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC 10pm) Episode: “Weird Al” Yankovic Wears a Hawaiian Shirt

Yes. Yes he does.

Chasing UFOs (National Geographic Channel 10pm) Varginha, Brazil, is an area known as the “Roswell of South America.”

It’s good to know that every country has their lunatics.

Common Law (USA 10pm) Finale: Wes and Travis try to get back into Dr. Ryan’s good graces by telling their full story.

“We met at Starbucks. Not the same Starbucks, we saw each other at different Starbucks across the street from each other.”

What will you be watching tonight?

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

I miss the Olympics. Or rather, I miss seeing the competitions because NBC prefers to show all the heart-warming stories about the American athletes instead of the events themselves.
