Joan Rivers turns 79 today. In another 100 years, she will look like this:
Wild Wild West (VH1 6:30pm) Secret agent James T. West and his partner fight evil inventor Dr. Loveless who plans to assassinate President Grant.
I actually saw this in the theater. On purpose. Twice.
House (Fox 8pm) An Alzheimer’s patient participating in a drug trial suffers from a violent temper; Wilson treats a patient who claims to be in a chaste marriage.
Chaste doesn’t equal celibate, show-description-writers. Buy a dictionary.
Sahara (AMC 8pm) A treasure hunter and his sidekick join forces with a doctor to search for a Confederate ship in Africa. Based on the novel by Clive Cussler.
Filmmaker Phil Joanou shows the Irish rock band on tour, in Harlem, at Elvis Presley’s mansion and in concert, mostly in black and white.Steve Zahn is my imaginary sidekick when I pretend Indiana Jones-esque adventures, too.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (ABC Family 9pm) A poor boy and his grandfather win a tour through the marvelous factory of a wily confectioner.
Celebrate the current filming of Jersey Shore and get ready for the premiere of Snooki and JWoww Take Over the World or whatever it’s called by watching the original orange Oompa Loompas in action.
The Wedding Planner (Bravo 9pm) A lonely organizer falls for an engaged pediatrician while coordinating his wedding and reception.
It’s a Matthew McConaughey-palooza up in the cable networks tonight. I just hope that doesn’t mean somebody’s airing Contact.
Brooklyn’s Finest (Spike TV 9pm) A massive drug operation changes the lives of three conflicted police officers in one of New York’s most-violent precincts.
Yeah, you’ve gotta watch those hipsters. I’ve heard stories about them raising their voices and throwing lattes.
Rattle and Hum (VH1 Classic 9pm) Filmmaker Phil Joanou shows the Irish rock band on tour, in Harlem, at Elvis Presley’s mansion and in concert, mostly in black and white.
Remember when Bono didn’t think he was God and people actually believed that U2′s music could change the world?
Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious (Comedy Central 9:58pm) Aziz talks about the troubles he faces while picking up girls in a stand up routine.
9:58 pm, you guys. Not 10pm. 9:58.
Born Schizophrenic: Jani’s Next Chapter (Discovery Family Health 10pm) Jani has seen great improvements and some setbacks, but now her parent’s attention turns toward her brother, Bodhi.
Some are born schizophrenic, some achieve schizophrenia, and others have schizophrenia thrust upon them.
Thank You for Smoking (The Sundance Channel 10pm) A lobbyist for big tobacco finds it difficult to balance his duties defending a dangerous substance with those of being a good role model for his young son. Based on the book by Christopher Buckley.
You’re welcome.
What will you be watching tonight?

@Suburbint—-”What will you be watching tonight?”
Netflix!
Grief this is bad. Braves game it is!
Willy Wonka just hasn’t been the same since Oompa Loompa Deena started giving out all those Golden Tickets.
Ish.
Hi gasmi…a bit unrelated, but didn’t know where else to put it. Is anyone watching LA Hair with Kim Kimble? I thought I checked it out yesterday and it was a very entertaining show. However, I was surprise to see Dontay as part of Kim’s team? Dontay, if you remember, was part of Eclectic Salon in one of the Tabatha’s takeover…however in his bio on the WE website he doesn’t mention anything about the salon…thought it was very weird…not sure if anybody else knows anything about it….
Sorry, I forgot… Thanks Suburbint for the factoids!
Is the 2nd screenshot from Terry Gilliam’s Brazil?
It’s Cassandra Dr. Who.
@cherrylipgloss — Me too! Netflix and I are very good friends these days.
@SSC — I had honestly blocked that memory from my brain in order to function normally in my daily life. It’s going to take months of therapy to re-repress that memory, and then as soon as I’ve succeeded, it will be time to start recapping season 6 of JS.
@RPS — I put LA Hair on a TT10S, I think last week. Thanks for chiming in about it, I’m never sure what people are actually watching! I’ve noticed a lot of cross-over appearances in reality TV shows but the individuals who appear never mention their other exposure — dunno if it’s an exclusivity contract thing, or if they’re embarrassed by their previous TV time or what. But there seems to be a certain pool of people in each genre of reality programs (dating, cooking, fashion, etc.) that appear on as many different shows as possible.
@trixiebell — as vallegirl so astutely noted, it is Cassandra from Doctor Who. She had nipped & tucked herself into nothing more than a sheet of skin with a few facial features, attached to a brain in a jar. Tell me you don’t see Joan Rivers going down that path, assuming technology can keep up with her.
superB, I’m so sorry. I forgot about your annual brain-cleanse.
*hangs head*
Oh dear. Better be careful or Ko-Douche will be hawking it as a new product with a cutsey name on his website.
My favorite thing about Cassandra was Zoe Wanamaker’s plummy accent coming from a pulsating piece of skin. Both creepy and hilarious.
And now I want to watch some Dr Who…
Please do. Especially the first season. Mostly because Eccleston doesn’t get nearly the love I think he should for shouldering the expectations of the reboot. Tennant was great as Ten, but without the foundation Eccleston laid as Nine I don’t think the reboot would have had the impact it’s had. Plus, he was pretty badass as the Doctor.
vallegirl, we agree yet again. I thought Eccleston was awesome. Edgy and hard to read. Strangely sexy without being sexual. Just like the Doctor should be! But then, I always thought Tennant was just a little fey. I know I could be killed for saying that. My daughter was blocked from a Dr Who website for saying she thought Tennant was “just ok.”
I’ve never seen Dr. Who but that Tennant was a huge fan of Dr.Who, ended becoming Dr.Who and marrying the former Dr.Who’s daughter. He must really love his life right now.

*but I love that
I watch a lot of Doctor Who, but I’m thinking of checking out this Dr. Who you guys are on about…is it anything like Ins. Spacetime?
Eccleston is good, but the Rose character/storyline is super annoying. Makes them hard to watch.
I recently started ‘Supernatural’ on Netflix streaming, so that is what I will be watching since this summer season is a bit slow, at least until True Blood starts.
Why does the Comedy Central show start at 9:58? Is that to try and mess up DVRs or is it simply because it is on Comedy Central and they think they are funny?
@carol I love Supernatural! What season are you on?
@sagittariuskim – season 6 episode 12. I started watching because of the attractiveness of the two main stars and to try to get over my fear the horror genre. I have only continued watching because of the stars. Even after 6 seasons, I still have to watch the show with all the lights on.
@carol For some reason to Supernatural doesn’t scare me. I can’t stand horror movies. I will only watch scary movies with a group and then, of course regret, when I’m alone. And I’m super squeamish. Yet there have been only a few episodes that have made me jump, for example the asylum episode from season 1. I like season 6, but it’s not one of my favorite seasons. It has it great episodes though, episode 18 Frontierland is a good one.
“Please do. Especially the first season”
I’ve watched the entire reboot. Loved it, except for like half of the Donna Noble season (I can’t stand her for some reason, though it got better in the latter half).
I’ve been watching Supernatural (I’m on Season Four, I believe). I’m not scared at all of Supernatural (even Season One, when they were a “monster of the week” show), but I’ve been enjoying it. Of course, being a semi-pro horror writer tends to make you immune to most horror.
If you’re a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica (honestly, I’m not a Sci-Fi fan outside of Firefly, and I enjoyed the show a lot), I’ve been watching “Stargate: SGU” on Netflix, and have been enjoying it a lot. It has the same “desolate” feel as BSG with some of its own twists.
I use Netflix so much I canceled my cable. Right now I’m watching Scrubs…I neglected it when it was on the air. Not anymore! Hilarious. But the best part are programs from abroad or indies like The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and Portlandia. Don’t forget Louie! Louis CK is a gem and so worth the monthly fee. Even better, my toddler daughter can work the kindle fire and play Barney and Diego. Netflix is the gift that keeps on giving..
I purchased a Roku box so I can stream to my TV. Besides Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Instant, there are free channels like Crackle, My Damn Channel, Blip.tv and like 300 others. A worthy investment!

As much as people b**** and complain about Netflix, I am still loving it. They are not making any money off of my account at all (3@ plus streaming). I am also lucky enough to be able to get my new release fix from my local library. I just started ‘Freaks & Geeks’ on the at home dvds. Between that and Supernatural on streaming, I am a happy customer.
One thing I don’t understand about Netflix Streaming is how they create some reality show’s ‘seasons’ that don’t match the actual season for the show. This happens more with Discovery Channel type shows (myth busters, worlds toughest fixes, dirty jobs, etc). But maybe it is coming from the station not Netflix.
After the third or so season of Supernatural, it is easy to tell when the ‘boo’ moment is going to come. The actual monsters don’t scare me as much as the possessed people or monsters that look exactly like people. I guess it comes from the fact if I actually ever saw a monster, I might scream like hell but also accept that it was the end.
@Jimbob Jones Season 4 is a pretty good season. Have you gotten to the LARPing episode yet?
@carol, my local library is also great for DVDs of on running shows. Freaks and Geeks (yes, canceled), It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and early seasons of Parks and Recreation. I also caught the first season of Community on DVD and the dvd extras made it more worthwhile than anything on Netflix. Am I the only nerd that adores extended cuts and commentary? The “making of” is sometimes just as cool as the show itself!
I,too am a huge Netflix afficiando….what a great concept! Thanks for the recommentdation. More please….
oops, I forgot to “@sarcasatire” the above comment (#28)…..I plan to check into Roku….love that we can help each other out…..cable is such a huge chunk o’ cash where I live, so I’m thankful they finally have competition.
@carol—isn’t the local library a great alternative. My son works there and brings movies home regularly. In the past (distant past), the selection was lacking but things are different now. It’s such a great $$ saver. As for Netflix, I wasn’t happy about the rate increase….it seemed greed driven and probably was but for me it’s a good investment. I just read the other day that some guy watched 250 movies a month on netlix….guess he doesn’t work…..
Sagitty, you are a wealth of information about viewing resources and I thank you sooo much! I’m a netflix buff, but believe it or no have not yet streamed.
Goingntomgive it a try.
“@Jimbob Jones Season 4 is a pretty good season. Have you gotten to the LARPing episode yet?”
I think I would have remembered that
Now I’ve definitely got to get back to watching Season 4.
Since you mentioned LARPing, one other show I highly recommend is The Guild. It’s basically a continuing web series about a group of MMO players. It’s awesome (and it’s on Netflix)
@Jimbob Jones Sorry LARPing should be quotes, sorry it was late when I wrote my comment. Sometimes if I don’t know the name of an episode I called by a random moment that happened in the episode. At the beginning of the episode The Boys discover that there’s Supernatural book, after they visit a comic book store working on another case. Their doing their whole FBI routine and guy working at store think that they’re fans of the book Supernatural LARPing. And I remember it as the LARPing because of the WTF looks on Sam and Dean’s face during this scene. I guess you can also think of it as the first meta episode.
re Supernatural – the LARPing episode as well as the one in Season 6 where they end up in an alternate universe where Supernatural is a tv show are great episodes. The inside jokes they make for the fans benefit are great.
Carol- Yes the Convention episode in season 5 is another good one, especially the end. What’s really funny about the season 6 episode is that Castiel/Misha Collins was actually tweeting that stuff.
@sarcastire — I actually forgot to mention this. If you’re into Scrubs, you should check out The Blanks (aka Ted’s Band).
http://www.theblankswebsite.com/
They have an absolutely awesome send-up of current songs (well, current for early 2011):
