Friday, May 4

On this day in 1436, Swedish rebel leader Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson was assassinated. I know bugger all about what he did or stood for, but he has a fantastic name.

It’s the usual whole-lotta-nothin’ Friday night TV schedule, so here’s a departure from the norm for you:

Una Familia con Suerte (Univision 8pm) La historia de una familia trabajadora, luchadora y humilde que tiene un cambio drástico en la vida.

The story of a working family who humbly eats lunch and has a drastic Filipino rock band in their life.

The Magic of the FA Cup (Fox Sports Channel 8pm) Classic Match Memories

I’m surprised that a Fox channel would air something that refers to soccer as “football.”

My Momma Throws Down (TV One 8pm) Squash casserole and green salad battle.

My question is, do they cook it, eat it, or fight with it?

Phineas and Ferb (The Disney Channel 8:30) Candace asks the boys to invent a device; the boys invent a brain booster.

It’s Perry! Perry the Platypus!♫

Little House on the Prairie (Hallmark Channel 9pm) Adam’s first client on returning to Walnut Grove is a man accused of cheating the townspeople in a land fraud.

Re-watching this show a few times as an adult, I’m amazed that my extremely sheltering mother let me watch it. Laura Ingalls & Co saw some majorly dark shit go down.

Curb Appeal Giveaway (HGTV 9pm) Texas neighbors win makeovers for their drought-ravaged yards.

I seriously hope they’re xeriscaping, because come the next drought, and those yards are going to look just as awful as they did before.

Melissa & Tye (CMT 9:30pm) Melissa’s new shoot has one catch, they want Tye too; Tye sparks a wager with Melissa she can’t refuse.

How do people become professional reality TV “stars” and where do I sign up? I would make for some riveting television.

Embarassing Bodies (Discovery Family Health 10pm) Sherri is weighed downed by her problem; Juleigh’s scaly ears.

From an Australian review of this show: since when did showing off your curvy penis, uneven breasts and scaly skin become a spectator sport?

Fashion Police (E! 10pm)

Consider yourselves warned.

The Dead Files (The Travel Channel 10pm) The team searches a family-owned restaurant in Santaquin, Utah for the dark truth that haunts the business.

A retired NYPD detective and a medium go investigate “haunted locations where a deadly crime was committed.” Completely objectively and with no agenda whatsoever. “In each episode, the duo investigates a case independently and keep their findings hidden from each other to preserve the integrity of their discoveries.” Integrity, people! That’s what this show is about.

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

SuperB, you jest. How many of us could say “Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson ” once slowly? We will have our little jokes, will we not?

Lots of tough choices on the tube tonight. Think I’ll curl up with Hubbycat and a book.

I’ve been watching some of the LIttle House episodes, too. Holy crap! Suicidal veterans…babies burning alive…towns going belly up…this isn’t the fluffy show people usually describe.
