Thursday, May 17

to: Grace Zabriskie, Sugar Ray Leonard, Bill Paxton, Bob Saget, Enya, Craig Ferguson, and Trent Reznor.

Missing (ABC 8pm) Finale: In a last-ditch effort to save her son, Becca faces her inner demons; Suspect Zero tries to finish his sale.

What this show was really missing was viewers. Renewal status: Cancelled. I think we all saw that coming.

Community (NBC 8pm. Also 9pm and 9:30pm) Gilbert Lawson (Giancarlo Esposito), former right-hand man to Pierce’s father, requests a meeting with Pierce at Hawthorne Enterprises; the study group must pitch in to help save Pierce’s inheritance. Then the study group develops a plan to infiltrate Greendale’s Chang-controlled campus; Troy turns to the Air Conditioning Repair Annex for help. Finally, Shirley and Pierce’s disagreement over their sandwich shop leads to Jeff squaring off with Alan (Rob Corddry), his former colleague, in Greendale Summer Fun Court; Vice Dean Laybourne (John Goodman) makes a final attempt at winning over Troy.

That is a hell of a lot of Community. Renewal status: Renewed for a shortened season, as Nads reported on last week.

American Idol (Fox 8pm) The finalists are revealed; Lisa Marie Presley performs; Adam Lambert performs.

Remember when Lisa Marie was married to Michael Jackson? That was weird. And then she was married to Nicolas Cage, which was even weirder.

Creepier than Angelina and Billy Bob.

Rules of Engagement (CBS 8:30pm) Finale: Jen puts the wrong date on the invitations to Audrey’s baby shower; Jeff likes Audrey’s maternity clothes; Russell gives up women.

This show has been on for six seasons, and I seriously didn’t know that David Spade was on it until two minutes ago. Renewal status: Uncertain.

30 Rock (NBC 8:30pm) Finale: Jack asks Liz to officiate his and Avery’s vow renewal; Criss tries to prove his worth to Liz; Tracy meets with Cornel West.

A half-hour break in the 90-minute Community fest of the evening, tonight’s episode will set up the story lines that they need to resolve in the next (and final) season. Renewal status: Renewed, but the end is in sight.

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC 9pm) Finale: A dangerous situation leaves the doctors fighting to stay alive while trying to save their peers; Ben and Bailey make a decision; Teddy gets a tempting offer; Richard plans a dinner for the residents.

“Hey, guys! I have a great idea for this season finale: we’ll put the doctors in a super dramatic life-threatening situation and they’ll be forced to face their true feelings, etc.!” “You mean like we did in the past 47 seasons?” “Dude, this is an American prime-time soap opera. Nobody’s going to notice.” “Fair enough.” Renewal status: Renewed, but I keep hearing rumors that next season will be Patrick Dempsey’s last. We’ll see.

Person of Interest (CBS 9pm) Finale: Reese becomes trapped with his POI in a heavily surveilled part of the city and must rely on Finch, Carter and Fusco’s help.

Renewal status: Renewed.

Reese and Finch reacted to the news with their usual joie de vivre.

Touch (FOX 9pm) Martin involves himself with a heist crew in an effort to win back a dock worker’s job; an Israeli boy and a Palestinian boy fight for their relationship; Clea finds documents about Jake; Martin and his wife’s sister make a decision.

Sadly, that decision doesn’t involve freeing up an hour of programming time on Fox next season. Or even next week, since there’s one more week to go until the finale.

Scandal (ABC 10pm) Finale: Olivia and the team rally when Quinn finds herself in a tragic situation; Cyrus turns to Olivia when an announcement affects Fitz’s presidency.

Shonda Rimes definitely knows how to make shows that sell. Renewal status: Renewed, after a seven episode first season. If it follows the normal ShondaLand trajectory, it won’t begin to really get ludicrous until about two-thirds of the way through the third season.

The Mentalist (CBS 10pm) Finale: After Jane fails to defeat Red John, he finds a lover and shoots one of his own.

The pronouns in the above sentence are very confusing. Renewal status: Renewed. Because people like shows where the main male character has a girl’s name.

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

Yikes, SuperBabe, don’t say anything that might be misconstrued as negative feelings about POI ’cause diehard fans will be calling for your head.

I can’t understand what went wrong in the Presley/Cage marriage. They look so happy in that picture.

3 Episodes of Community seems excessive huh? Learn to schedule better NBC.

I will watch every episode of Community. NBC is just trying to burn though episodes hoping they low ratings to justify the short season and Friday schedule they are giving it next season. Someone over there must really hate Dan Harmon.

Also..I was just flipping by and I saw something called Perez Hilton All-Access. Please tell me this is a special and not a show. I didn’t linger long enough to find out..I didn’t want to inadvertently give more ratings to what must be a travesty for television. CW..you disappoint me.

I understand networks like to keep around a show that is generating ad revenue, but the past couple of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy have set it up perfectly to end the show this season. With all the doctors going to different hospitals around the country, it would have been perfect. Now, they are all going to seem rather lame for staying at Seattle Grace when they were offered positions at the top hospitals in their field.

I have not started watching Community. I like Park & Rec, would you suggest Community?

@carol, yes! Best to start from season one just to get background on the characters and storylines. It’s also my fav season to date (although the others are great, too.)
