Ok confession time. I was VERY young when I first saw Jaws. It scarred me so bad that I actually thought a Great White would shome how make it’s way into my above ground pool in the ‘burbs of New England while I was swimming in it when I was a kid.
That is some messed up stuff!
I’m excited that I can actually view Gasm from work again. Last week when I tried to come here it was displaying the website blocked screen stating the reason as ‘porn.’
I don’t know what you all were up to last week but sounds like I missed a party.
I saw Jaws for the first time at a slumber party when I was 8 and I FREAKED out. I had to call my mom at 3 am to come and get me because I couldn’t sleep and I refused to set foot in a pool (let alone the ocean) for months.
When I was a kid, I also freaked out about sharks in the swimming pool… and I didn’t see Jaws until I was 24. At least you guys had a reasonable excuse! I did refuse to shower for two weeks after seeing Psycho at the age of 13, however. And then there was the whole Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? incident where I was convinced that my sister was just waiting to feed me a canary, never mind the fact that we didn’t even own a canary. Movies, man.
I watched both Jaws 1 and 2, one day after another, when I was four years old and naturally, I was freaked, wouldn’t even take a bath. And a few days afterwards, my family went to the beach. I was scared to death of “the big fish with big teeth will eat me like the kid in the movie”, but Mom kept assuring me all was well, so I stayed on the shore with everyone. And then my stupid redneck father with a shitty sense of humor snuck up behind me, grabbed me by the ankles real hard and started dragging me deeper into the water. Not only did I swallow water, I developed a phobia of sharks that continues to this day, so severe that footage on tv, pictures and even cartoon and bad CGI sharks will send me into a nervous breakdown.
Figures, despite watching horror movies since I was three, the one that traumatizes me is the one based on a super popular member of the animal kingdom that gets one week a year dedicated to it. Thanks, Dad, you ass!
Good call on Psycho, I totally snatched open the shower curtin for YEARS, just in case.
