Tonight’s Top 10 Shows: Tuesday, August 21

Watercooler

Tuesday, August 21

The Marvelettes’ song “Please Mr. Postman,” the first Motown song to reach the #1 position on the U.S. charts, was released on this date in 1961.

Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family 8pm) Spencer uncovers Paige’s sordid history with Alison, but Emily is reluctant to heed her warning, Aria tries to help Ezra move on from his past.

On the plus side, when Ezra finally snaps and begins his career as a serial killer, odds are good that Aria will be his first victim.

American Gypsies (The National Geographic Channel 8pm) Chris envisions an unconventional business opportunity; Nicky wants to sacrifice a lamb to restore Bob Sr.’s health.

In my family, we just make some chicken soup.

Craft Wars (TLC 8pm) The contestants must create a food-and wine-themed display out of kitchen supplies.

I like to call this particular piece “We Made Lasagna For Dinner Last Night.”

MasterChef (Fox 9pm) The cooks select mystery box ingredients that represent who they are; the judges surprise the cooks with a twist; the cooks re-create a dish that Graham Elliot served to the president.

This is one mystery box challenge that I would have loved to see Tali take part in.

The L.A. Complex (The CW 9pm) Connor encounters someone from Jennifer’s past; Beth’s protective nature takes over; Abby starts to feel overwhelmed.

Nothing a little over-acting and unnecessarily skimpy clothing can’t fix.

Face Off (SyFy 9pm) Premiere: Hollywood star Sean Astin welcomes the cast; the artists create original aliens for the classic Star Wars cantina scene.

It’s also been done in Legos.

NY Med (ABC 10pm) A trauma surgeon struggles with becoming attached to his patients.

He might want to consider using sutures instead of surgical glue if this is a recurring issue.

Teen Mom (MTV 10pm) Maci and Ryan fight at Bentley’s birthday; Farrah spends time with Sophia; Amber and Gary devise a custody plan; Catelynn and Tyler help their parents cope.

So basically it’s like every other episode of Teen Mom ever? Cool.

Covert Affairs (USA 10pm) Annie tries to turn the prime minister of Yemen’s chief of staff into a CIA asset.

I haven’t seen this show, but everything about it from the name to the ads to the episode description screams “Sexpionage!”

Collection Intervention (SyFy 10:30) Elyse meets Crazy Jack, whose vintage die cast car and GI Joe collection has taken over their home.

The guy’s named Crazy Jack. I’m surprised he isn’t collecting his own toenail clippings.

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

Oh thank you so much for reminding me about American Gypsies. I loved the first couple of epis, but then forgot when it was on. I’m not blonde for nothing.

Also, Face Off is a fun watch– and I hope it’s being recapped again this season. The ‘caps are even more fun than the show.

@ Alice — I didn’t forget, I assume that all of our Dance Moms fans don’t need reminding, and so I decided to put American Gypsies on tonight’s list cos that show needs some love.

Love American Gypsies. Has anyone read the comments at NatGeo about this show? Love the outrage and anger about this show being educational. Obviously some viewers of NatGeo are experts in the Roma culture. Some have written about this family being the low lives of their culture, they are known for being violent etc.

I cried in the first episode when Bobby’s daughter admitted she couldn’t read.

Wonder how Bobby and the wife took the Miami cheating episode.

Subur anyone reason this show is not being recapped?

@ labowner — I think the main reason this show isn’t being recapped is that us ‘cappers are stretched as thinly as possible and no one could fit it in. It’s a pity, sounds like it would be a fantastic addition to our lineup.

@Alice, please forgive SuperB for neglecting your show, but she did me a HUGE favor. I loved the first two epis (I also cried when Bobby’s Daughter said she couldn’t read. I also got a little teary when Bob Sr. sneaked into the play) and then forgot when they were on. Some of us need reminders.

    Also, why no recap indeed?!

    Flipit?????

I understand. I wish I could write half as good as the worstest recapper here.
