Tonight’s Top 10 Shows: Tuesday, August 28

Watercooler

Tuesday, August 18

The Philadelphia Race Riots began on this date in 1964. Among the first racially motivated riots during the Civil Rights Movement of the ’60s, this riot lasted for three days and was sparked due to increasing incidents of police brutality against Black Philadelphians.

America’s Got Talent (NBC 8pm) Twelve acts perform.

You heard it here first: twelve acts perform. It’s beautiful in its simplicity.

Republican National Convention (PBS 8pm. Also CNN and MSNBC at 8, and ABC, CBS, and NBC at 10) The 2012 Republican National Convention from Tampa, Fla.

I would recommend this as a sleeping aid, but all of the sycophantic cheering and applauding would make it difficult to drop off.

Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family 8pm) Rosewood becomes a media spectacle as Garrett’s murder trial begins; a person close to Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer is revealed to be working with `A.’

There’s a shock. I mean really, A knows every little piddly detail of their lives and it’s because he/she/it has a spy who is close to the girls? Never saw that one coming.

Dance Moms (Lifetime 9pm) A new dancer and her mother arrive at the studio; Paige’s doctor allows her to dance in a competition.

As long as they keep the documentation, that should be helpful in the malpractice suit twenty years from now when Paige can barely walk or stand up straight.

Face Off (SyFy 9pm) The artists create original pirate makeups; they compete to win their very own pirate’s booty of $5,000 cash.

The reward that competing twins Eric and Derek Garcia would really love to win is a trip back in time so that they could slap their parents upside their respective heads and help them choose better baby names. Eric and Derek? That’s just mean.

19 Kids and Counting (TLC 9pm) Premiere: The Duggars travel to Florida, where Anna’s sister is getting married; the older Duggar girls discuss what they look for in a husband.

“Well, he needs to be tall. And brunette. And love Jesus. And never, ever, ever have made a decision for himself in his whole entire life.”

Teen Mom (MTV 10pm) Finale: Amber reconsiders giving Gary full custody; Catelynn and Tyler reflect on the adoption; Farrah misses Sophia; Ryan confronts Maci about the custody arrangement.

It’s a little late to change your mind now, Chola-Brows.

All the Right Moves (Oxygen 10pm) Teddy breaks the bro code by flirting with Kyle’s girlfriend; Taja threatens to quit the company; Travis faces his fear of dancing alone.

In all fairness, The Bro Code has like 4,000 articles, so it’s only to be expected that a guy will forget one every now and again.

Collection Intervention (SyFy 10pm) Elyse visits with Joe and Rebekah who have 30,000 comics.

They’re not comics, they’re graphic novels. God!

Abby & Brittany (TLC 10pm) The girls prepare a fun birthday bash to celebrate their 22nd with all their friends.

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this show, because on the TV specials I’ve seen with these girls, they seem genuinely sweet and nice and normal in spite of the fact that they are conjoined twins, and goodness knows reality TV programs tend to exploit rather than enhance the lives of their subjects. So I’m hoping that they decided to jump about the reality TV train and milk it for all it’s worth and then get out after very successfully investing their incomes from being on the show.

What will you be watching tonight?

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

My Mother told me about the race riots during the 60′s and it just seemed so unreal. The Philadelphia I grew up in wasn’t dictated by race a less than 20 years later.

I would need a month supply of lotion at the RNC (or DNC). What the hell are they clapping about?!?!? And the standing ovation lost meaning after the first two. Why don’t they just get a clapping track so people can get liquored up in the back?!?!?
