Olympic Fun Fact: The ancient Olympic Games were held every four years from 776 BC through 326 AD. They originally began as a foot race in which young women competed for the position of priestess for the goddess Hera, followed by a race in which men competed for the position of the priestess’s consort. Eventually the games grew to include boxing, wrestling, chariot races and pankration, an early form of mixed martial arts. Only free young men who spoke Greek were allowed to compete in the more evolved Olympics, although women were allowed to enter horses that they owned in the chariot race.

XXX Summer Olympics (NBC 10pm) From London. Gymnastics, finals: men’s parallel bars, men’s high bar, women’s balance beam, women’s floor exercise; track and field, finals: women’s 100m hurdles, men’s 1500m, men’s high jump; beach volleyball, women’s semifinal: USA vs. China.

I like the way they always begin the description of events with “From London,” as if the entire Olympic Games might have suddenly relocated without any notice.

Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family 8pm) Spencer and Aria stop by the Kahn brothers’ party to save Spencer’s college career, but end up playing a game of “Truth” with Jenna; Hanna receives a text from “A” regarding Caleb.

Craft Wars (TLC 8pm) Episode: Heavy Metal – The crafters must create a sculpture out of musical instruments.

So I did an image search for “Tori Spelling Heavy Metal,” hoping that she had dated the guitar player from Metallica or something, and for some reason known only to the Gods of the Internet this picture was on the page. When I clicked on it, wondering what in the world it could have to do with Tori Spelling and/or heavy metal, I found that it was from a 2011 Big Brother live ‘cap on Flipit’s blog. I feel like the Internet knows way too much about my life.

The L.A. Complex (The CW 9pm) Connor faces a difficult decision; Kaldrick visits his father; Nick tries to beat Sabrina at her own game; Beth gets herself into trouble.

I continue not to care.

Shipping Wars (A & E 9pm) Roy gets in trouble when he does the unthinkable to a giant sculpture of a baseball legend; Jennifer consoles a heartbroken customer who must part with a prized possession.

Roy! How many times do we have to tell you, stop dry-humping the sports memorabilia!

Dance Moms (Lifetime 9pm) Jill tries to get Kendall to replace Paige in this week’s numbers; Maddie leaves rehearsals to shoot her guest role on “Drop Dead Diva”; Brooke suffers from back pain.

Free Brooke!

American Gypsies (The National Geographic Channel 9pm) The Johns brothers travel to Florida; Bobby’s single life; Bob has a stroke; Nicky and Bobby fight.

How can such a stunning specimen still be single?

NY Med (ABC 10pm) A single mother learns she has breast cancer; surgeons collaborate on a liver transplant between brothers; an emergency medicine resident reacts to a prank.

In a living donor liver transplant, the donor can give up to 70% of their healthy liver, and the portion remaining will regain full function and grow back to its normal size within a couple of months of the transplant.

Love Broker (Bravo 10pm) Lori tries to teach Doug the difference between love and attraction; a client in a transition period makes Lori look for a match in her personal life.

Why are all the matchmakers on reality shows single?

Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolpins (HBO 10pm) The team assembles for the start of training camp in Davie, Fla.; coaches take the players through week one of on-field drills.

Or you could watch your Rudy DVD for the 300th time.

What will you be watching tonight?

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

Am I the only one watching American Gypsies? I cried watching the first episode. It blows away the MBFGW/MBFAGW shows on TLC.

Does anyone else remember Monty Python’s Live Liver Donors sketch? Can we have your liver, then???
