Tonight’s Top 10 Shows: Tuesday, September 4

Watercooler

Tuesday, September 4

The city of Los Angeles, California, was founded on this date in 1781. The forty-four Spanish settlers who were the first citizens of LA named their new city El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula, which translates as The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porziuncola.

America’s Got Talent (NBC 8pm) Twelve acts perform in the hope of making it to the Top Six.

Is it just me or has this season of AGT been dragging on for about 3 years?

Hell’s Kitchen (Fox 8pm) The top two finalists are determined; a team of renowned chefs evaluates the contestants’ final dinner-service menu.

Will this finally be the first season with two women chosen as the finalists? It won’t, but I’m going to watch anyway, just in case.

The Democratic National Convention (PBS 8pm, CNN 8pm, lots of other channels at various times) The 2012 Democratic National Convention from Charlotte, N.C.

Fun fact: even though the incumbent is the presumptive nominee, they can be challenged by other hopefuls and their supporters at their party’s National Convention. Thus far, no Presidental incumbent has been over-thrown by another candidate in his own party, but technically it could happen.

MasterChef (Fox 9pm) The final three contestants are asked to reflect on their culinary experiences and create a dish that embodies their personality and passion; the top two contestants are chosen.

#TeamChristine

Coma (A&E 9pm) A young medical student uncovers sinister events at her hospital when a startling number of seemingly healthy patients are sent into comas during routine procedures.

This sound a lot like Kingdom Hospital. So if you liked Kingdom Hospital, this might be right up your alley. Alternatively, this might suck.

Beverly Hills Nannies (ABC Family 9pm) Finale: Life falls apart easily for a nanny.

Nannies just aren’t what they used to be.

Flipping Out (Bravo 9pm) Premiere: Arguments over a home remodel strain Jeff and Gage’s relationship.

I thought that only happened if you lived in the house that was being remodeled.

Dance Moms (Lifetime 9pm) Abby assigns each dancer a solo to help her make a decision about who will perform in Nationals; Melissa signs her daughters with an agency; Kelly helps Brooke with her singing career.

Is this Nationals, or Nationals, or Nationals, or Nationals with Sparkly Rainbow Frosting and Sprinkles on Top?

Addicted (Discovery Family Health 10pm) A 37-year-old meth addict who began using at age 15.

It’s actually kind of impressive that he’s still alive.

Teen Mom (MTV 10pm) Reunion

Will they have a live feed with Amber from prison?

What will you be watching tonight?

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

    Subby,
I thought it was just me! Every time there’s an episode of AGT-I see Repeat. My dvr is set to new episodes only. If feels like weeks in between shows, then there are repeats, then nothing, then suddenly Andrew’s back, then nada, and people I’ve never seen before, and a shift from episode 27 to 23. I’m ready to call it America’s Got Nothing.

I’ve been rooting for Christine since the beginning and I am hoping and praying that she comes out first.

Welcome back SuperB. Hope you had a fun last-hurrah-of-summer.

I wish Californians had kept the original name. El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula is kinda catchy, don’t you think?

Imagine the cool postal cancellation symbol, not to mention the airport designator.

@CD, D, & KM, both the RNC and the DNC are often funnier than SNL…
    For all the wrong reasons.

Snow- but seriously-Nothing tops Akin and the super sneaky sperm and Karl Rove’s “elimination plan” of Akin and subsequent “possible apology.”

Ah yes, KM, Hubbycat and I call that kind of “apology” the Past Exonerative case. “I’m so sorry that you did not understand what I intended to do/say.”

Anyway, neither convention arouses my interest, and one arouses my ire.

Not gonna step in to any kind of political debate in the Gasm, and for the most part we have either avoided one or have beaten the other into extinction.

    Tense. Past Exonerative tense.
