Tonight’s Top 10 Shows: Wednesday, August 22

Watercooler

Wednesday, August 22

On this date in 565, Saint Columba, an Irish missionary to Scotland, reported seeing a monster in Loch Ness. History is silent on whether or not he gave Nessie t’ree-fiddy.

Big Brother (CBS 8) The contestants compete in the veto competition.

I wonder who that sad little scrap of paper is?

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox 8pm) The top 10 finalists perform; two dancers are sent home; guest judge Benjamin Millepied; L.A. Dance Project performs.

Millepied (aka Mr. Natalie Portman) is the son of a decathlete and a dance, and his name translates to “a thousand feet.” Pretty convenient for a professional ballet dancer.

Oh Sit! (The CW 8pm) Daredevils compete for cash; The Speakers perform.

In more interesting news, did you hear about LL Cool J beating the crap out of a burglar early this morning?

America’s Got Talent (NBC 9pm) Four wildcard acts advance to the semi-finals.

Are they “Draw Four” wildcards, or just regular wildcards?

Toddlers & Tiaras (TLC 9pm) Scarlett and Isabella compete against Elizabeth and Kylee at the Little Mr. and Miss Nevada pageant in Las Vegas.

I think we all know how Rhett feels about the whole thing.

Hollywood Exes (VH1 9pm) Mayte and Jessica try to repair their relationship; Sheree pitches her skin product; Nicole prepares a showing of her clothing line.

Jane and Blanche do an excellent job skewering this show every week, and while I haven’t been able to bring myself to actually watch the show, their recaps are source of weekly delight.

NY Med (ABC 10pm) Finale: A mother faces a risky surgery to remove cancer from her abdomen; a husband and wife balance surgical residency and their relationship; a confident cardiac surgeon; a new kind of colon surgery gives hope to an 18-year-old with Crohn’s disease.

I prefer my cardiac surgeons confident, just this side of cocky. The last thing a person needs during heart surgery is a timid person poking around in there.

Top Chef Masters (Bravo 10pm) The chefs make dishes for the Indigo Girls; upscale pool party hosted by Holly Madison.

There are so many tasteless jokes to be made here, I don’t even know where to begin.

Dirty Jobs: Down Under (The Discovery Channel 10pm) Mike Rowe travels down the northern coast of Australia to work and hunt with Aboriginals who have lived off the land for more than 40,000 years.

Looks like Mike Rowe found some men at work.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (TLC 10pm) The family decorates for an annual Christmas in July celebration; Anna is rushed to the hospital with contractions.

The real question is, what will this week’s episode’s comment wars be about? My vote is for “Childbirth: Why My Way Is Better Than Yours.”

What will you be watching tonight?

About

After giving birth to her fourth child, SuburBint carefully weighed the options and decided that recapping reality TV was probably a better choice in the long run than alcoholism. Liver function tests have yet to confirm the wisdom of this decision. Being an honest-to-goodness recapper is also a dream come true, as she has aspired to do this ever since discovering that such a thing existed way back in 2002.

Her favorite shows of all time include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Coupling, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Firefly, Community, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, and Veronica Mars. She can also quote The Big Lebowski in its entirety, and will do so with little to no provocation.

Scarlett and Isabella were just a few months old when we first watched their tatted up horse-faced mother clearly prefer one over the other (How could she tell that one just rocked the stage and the other wasn’t expected to do much? They were overgrown embryos!)

So I am so expecting Jaime Sterlin 2.0 tonight. And I love to count the ways she tells us how jealous everyone is over her phab wealth!

Ooooh. Maybe she will join us. If she can write.

How come there is only 1 new show of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, this is episode 5 I saw no other new one. Does this mean it’s over? :-(

@ spababe — This episode wasn’t marked as a finale, so there should be more to come. Looks like they might be cutting down to one new ep a week instead of two back-to-back, since the show on after this is a rerun of the HBB pilot.

Well obvs so they can have a secular holiday in July and then be able to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas on the actual date by … um…. by….

Oh never mind. Can they afford to go overboard on gifts at any time?

@ c8h10n402 — Right? I watch Deep Blue Sea far more often than a (relatively) sane grown woman ought to, just to watch him get revenge for his parrot. *happy sigh*

@Suburbint: The only Renny Harlin movie that I can bring myself to watch is The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and that’s because a) it might be the only movie of his that’s SUPPOSED to be a comedy, b) Wayne Newton is the villain, c) Vince Neill, and d) high school nostalgia stuff.

Who am I kidding. I own it on DVD. There’s an idea for a discussion topic: DVDs of shame.

@ c8h10n4o2 — DVDs of shame… let me think…. Oh! We have a copy of End of Days, a charming little piece wherein Gabriel Byrne plays Satan and Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only one who can thwart his evil, evil plans. Robin Tunney is also there to stare woodenly at people and deliver her lines with the same deep emotion so often seen in a brick wall. It is horrible.

DVD’s of shame: Hackers, which I enjoy immensely as I have a huge crush on Johnny Lee Miller. Hence, my name on this sight. I have seen every bad movie that he’s been in (and there are quite a few).

Total agreement on Johnny Lee Miller. Boy is hot, but has made some bad choices. Cabin Boy is definitely in my hall of shame. I’ll take a peek through my binders when I get home and see what I’ve been repressing. A bad one that I love, though, is my Footballers’ Wives collection. I will never be ashamed of laughing my ass off at Chardonnay’s (yes, seriously) wedding when I have a bad day.
