HBO ‘s HUNG returns tonight at 10pm, for it’s 2nd season. This is, of course, after a new episode of True Blood at 9pm. Thomas Jane is still making ends meet in a tough economy, by satisfying lonely women. Can this theme stay fresh for another season? I mean, how many times can we watch him screw old ladies? Following at 10:30pm, is the 7th season opener of Entourage. The boys are all back & nothing is easy. Vince is going to do his own stunts in a movie directed by Nick Cassavetes, which sends Ari into a panic. I’m kinda tired of Jeremy Pivens & his tirades, aren’t you?
The 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards airs on CBS, at 9pm. Dick Clark will be honored with a tribute by Cher, Frankie Avalon, Barry Manilow, Marie Osmond & Garth Brooks among others, for his years on American Bandstand. Regis Philbin will host the evening all by himself. I know most will be watching to see if he keels over their favorite soap opera star wins, but I’m more tuned to the other categories. In the “Outstanding Gameshow” category, we have a dark horse with Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab. It’s competing against the old-timers, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy & Price is Right & the only other odd duck, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, I’m sure it’s a winner this year. Another category I’m interested in is “Outstanding Talk Show: Informative”. There are only three up for this Emmy, Oprah’s old favorite Dr. Phil, her new favorite, Dr. Oz & not an Oprah favorite, The Doctors. I’m sure Dr. Oz & his turd-shapes information will flush away the other contenders. I’ll comment on all the Red Carpet fashions on Monday.
TBS & Conan O’Brien may not be able to get together until November for his new late night show, but that’s not stopping Andy Richter & Team Coco writers from puttin’ on a show!! Team Coco Presents: Conan’s Writers Live, airs at 10pm. Of course, it’s not LIVE, but it was taped live at the Chicago “Just For Laughs” Festival. I guess that counts as live. Andy is the host. Ellen Degeneres airs her Ellen’s Somewhat Special Special beforehand at 9pm. This little variety-type show was also performed at the Chicago “Just For Laughs” Festival & features Lady Antebellum.
ABC has new episodes of their two new series, Scoundrels at 9pm & The Gates at 10pm. In case you haven’t watched either one, The Gates gives us a suburban view of vampires & werewolves. It’s “True Blood meets Desperate Housewives”. The only interesting one is vampire Claire who just doesn’t want to give up her old habits & be June Cleaver. Scoundrels is all about family… petty thieves who have their own code of right & wrong when it comes to ripping people off. Dad’s gone to jail for 5 years, so Mom’s gonna try an honest life for a change & everyone is getting real jobs. This show tries too hard to be both a comedy & have it’s drama too. It didn’t work for me.
Food Network has a new Next Food Network Star at 9pm followed by a new Iron Chef: America at 10pm. E! has new episodes of Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami at 10pm & Holly’s World at 10:30pm. Lifetime has Drop Dead Diva at 9pm & Army Wives at 10pm. Two new episodes of Leverage at 9 & 10pm on TNT. And then there’s The Real L-Word on Showtime at 10pm.
I’m watching HUNG & The Gates & of course, True Blood. What are you watching?

I’ll be watching True Blood tonight, and as much as I hate to admit it, Entourage. But let’s get one thing cleared up before we go any further, I watch Entourage at this point only to validate my long simmering hatred towards the show, and this is what I will be looking for tonight.
Adrian Grenier’s acting still sucks? Check. By the way, if any of you are wondering how a guy who makes peat moss look exciting gets a seven year gig on National TV, you have to remember that this role had certain requirements. Namely to be a worse actor then Mark Walberg, and lets face it, you normally only see the bar set that low on the professional limbo circuit. By the way, when it comes to the Walbergs, not only was Donny the better rapper, he’s the better actor (yeah, I’m playing that card, and playing it hard.)
My hatred also gets validated by the way the show every time they dump tons of screen time on E and Sloan. Not that I care about either those characters, but every time the girl who plays Sloan comes on screen my first and only thought is her boobs are literally right under her chin; if she ever tried to play the violin it would have to happen on a porn channel. Also, I’ve decided that if this show ever does get cancelled, Kevin Connolly could get a steady gig on any of those little people shows on the Discovery channel.
That leaves Jeremy Piven as the best thing on the show, but as I’ve mentioned before, being the best thing on Entourage is like being the most pleasant symptom of a venereal disease. Congratulations Jeremy Piven, your performance on this show is to acting, what a painful burning sensation while urinating is to syphilis. Your parents must be so proud.
The show won’t be on for another three hours but I can still hear that crappy theme song in my head already. Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, Yeah. Jesus, if I had a dog I’d kick it right now.
Entourage and True Blood would really be neck and neck in a Pan-Network Suck Contest. ‘Course, then Bachelorette would show up, grab its crotch, and send them both home with no prize except their tears.
BET Awards
