Dexter-Season-5-5

Sunday night is my favorite night of television. There is always such good programming on. This whole week has been overwhelming with all the new & returning shows. Right now CBS is the ratings winner, but that’s not unusual. NBC will still take the #1 spot with it’s Sunday Night Football. Tonight it’s the NY Jets @ Miami Dolphins at 8:15pm. Just a reminder… FOX & CBS will have NFL games this afternoon & they could affect primetime viewing tonight. With that said, shall we see what’s on….

exmakeover1

7pm:

Extreme Make-Over: Home Edition (ABC) The season #8 premiere takes place in Baltimore, MD. The team is renovating “Boys Hope”, a facility that provides a safe environment for at-risk youth. They are also building a “Girls Hope”… for the girls of course! This is a two-parter with Raven Symone helping out & Katy Perry showing up in part #1. In the 2nd hour, Shaquille O’Neal & the kids from “Modern Family” are Ty’s helpers as they finish up the project & have the big reveal. (Two Tissue box night)

60 Minutes (CBS) It’s their 43rd season!… and Andy Rooney is still around. Tonight they investigate the borders between Afghanistan & Pakistan. There is also a report on the controversy over the Islamic Center being built at Ground Zero. There’s a profile of New Orleans Saints Drew Brees for their fluff piece.

8pm:

The Simpsons (FOX) Season 22… and it’s a Lisa episode. I HATE Lisa! She’s off to a performing arts camp & her fellow campers are the voices of Lea Michele, Cory Monteith & Amber Riley, all from “GLEE”. The camp counselors are the voices of Jermaine Clement & Bret McKenzie from “Flight of the Conchords”.

THE-AMAZING-RACE-Season-17-4

8:30pm:

Amazing Race (CBS) Phil opens the 17th season in Glouchester, MASS. Once again 11 teams will race around the globe for $1 million bucks. The show is 90 minutes tonight & we’ll get to see “the shot heard ’round the world” in it’s entirety. I can’t imagine how much that watermelon to the face must have hurt. Just so you know, they’ve added a twist… the 1st team to hit the mat tonight will receive a surprise reward that could give them a game-changing advantage. What… a “Medallian of Power” like on “Survivor”? Can’t they leave well enough alone? (Be aware that football games may screw up the time).

The Cleveland Show (FOX) Well it’s season #2… I never thought… oh well, tonight Kanye West is the guest voice. He’s Kenny West & he & Cleveland write a rap song, “Be Cleave in Yourself” & it becomes a huge hit making Kenny famous, but not Cleveland.

9pm:

Desperate Housewives (ABC) This show opens it’s 7th season with another new ‘housewife’. This one’s worth a look.. it’s Vanessa Williams & she’s playing Lynette’s rich friend, Renee Perry. As for the others… their still whoring around the neighborhood.

Family Guy (FOX) Season 10 has the return of Peter’s arch enemy James Woods. He invites all the residents of Quahog to his mansion to meet his new woman (voiced by Ashley Tisdale). What happens next you ask?…. Murder!

undercover-boss-choice-hotels-06

10pm:

Sister Wives (TLC) This is the only NEW show debuting tonight. If you assume from the title that this is about polygamy, then you are right. This reality show follows the family of Kody Brown & his three wives & children. In the opening episode, they are contemplating a 4th wife. With the popularity of  “Big Love”, I’m sure we will see lots of braids & long skirts, but more in the TLC style than HBO’s take on things.

Undercover Boss (CBS) For it’s 2nd season, we get to see Stephen Joyce, the CEO of Choice Hotels International, get down in the trenches with the little people… and I don’t mean the Roloffs! I’m sure he’ll find the work extremely hard & at the end will give choice workers a pat on the back & a small gesture of appreciation for a job well done.

Brothers & Sisters (ABC) Season 5 does a one-year ‘fast forward’. It’s been that long since the horrific car accident.

dexter

DEXTER (Showtime) Season 5 starts up right where last season ended….. Rita in a bathtub full of blood & Dexter holding his blood-soaked little son in his arms… shocked! Now he has to deal with raising his son & Rita’s other 2 kids while still trying to control his “urges”. I am so excited for this premiere! I can’t wait to see where things go from here.

Bored To Death (HBO) Season #2 & if you don’t know, this comedy is about Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman). He’s an alcoholic, a writer, and self proclaimed private detective. Tonight a cop hires him to remove his name from a client list at the local S&M dungeon that’s about to be raided.

10:30pm:

Eastbound & Down (HBO) This is this comedy’s 2nd season. Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) heads to Mexico to feel sorry for himself where nobody knows him. But somebody does recognize him as the great baseball pitcher he once was & Kenny thinks this could be his chance for a comeback.

That’s it kids… what are you watching tonight?

Um…I’m a little confused. As there is no state in the U.S. in which polygamy is legal, how can there be a “reality series” which features polygamy without there also being an investigation and arrest shortly thereafter?

@cattyfan I’m sure those with a clue about this will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that while you are correct tht the practice is technically illegal, because it is so prevalent in that region, as a matter of practicality, the state tends to reserve its resources for getting involved where there are other legal issues, like laws that pertain to the age of consent, issues involving welfare benefits, various flavors of assault, homicide, etc.

So as long as this particular family is not breaking any other laws, unless the county they live in wanted to make a statement, or some official or other had an election coming up, they might not be as inclined to send gunmen to their home and have the state assume responsibility for another dozen or so minor children.

I can see where in the absence of anything like forms filled out with wrong information, etc, it would get kind of cloudy. Is it against the law in Utah to live with a married couple? Is “adultery” something that the state can independently prosecute, in the absence of a spouse citing it in a divorce case? Is it against the law for the other 2 ladies to “consider themselves married” to this dude as a religious belief, even if they don’t falsify any applications for food stamps? That kind of thing. I don’t know the answers to all those questions, but as long as they are consenting adults, and not breaking any other laws, I’m just saying those are questions that would be sure to come up.

I read a book about polygamy a few years back and can’t remember the name of it right now, if I do I will post it. Anyway it basically said exactly what Bahu said. Usually only the first wife is actually married to the man. The others have no legal contract although they tend to hold their own ceremony. There are also certain parts of Utah, which according to this book, the government pretty much leaves everyone alone. And since they don’t go after the ones who include underage girls as their wives, they also don’t bother with those that are all above legal age.

I would think glorifying a crime would get them the attention of the government…

As long as there is no marriage license that is filed at city hall or such place, then there is no marriage by law… this is why they aren’t breaking any laws. They are practicing their freedom of religion.

Having seen the first episode, I think the show definitely has entertainment potential. Apparently we will follow the family through the hilarity that ensues when Paw announces his intention to bring a 4th wife and her children from a previous marriage into the household.

I guess one of the things we get from reality shows is a window into different lifestyles, so we can commit happy little wriggles of luckiness because we aren’t sister wives or Jersey Shore girls – or Bad ones…
