Watch: Bethenny’s Talk Show, Thoughts?

I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to watch Bethenny’s new talk show yet, or if you even get it on your TV because it’s only in select markets, but she’s posted it online to see. I know Ellen produces it, and it shows because it feels like The Ellen Show, but with a different set. The format is obviously different because she has three guests on a couch and the segments following, but it’s SOOO Ellen, isn’t it?

My quick thoughts:

It’s crazy that she had spell out who she was so in-depth during the show open–that must have been a note from the research department. I’m sure they got the note, “Who the hell is Bethenny?”

I don’t love how much tries to spell out that she’s so “real,” because as soon as someone says that–they’re not.

The sex doctor segment wasn’t bad. It was weird at first, but then I found myself watching the whole segment through.

I kind of cringed watching it. Am I being too critical? Honestly, I don’t know if this is the right format for her, but we’ll see what the general public thinks. I smell failure, but I could be wrong.

Here’s the episode:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

I watched it today and she really, really, really needs to stop talking about herself.

    I didn’t hate it.
Kevin Nealon rocks and not enough time was spent with her guests.
I probably won’t watch since I don’t have a lot of time for tv.

Kevin Nealon was the best bit, really. dl also had some good jokes. the editing was a little funny. you can really tell that she was mentored by Martha Stewart but she obviously brings her more down-to-earth twist to it. I thought her eating the sour cream/miracle whip was very bizarre, though. o.O~

the sex segment was a little like middle school health class & kind of painful to watch. I didn’t learn anything new.

She should’ve formatted it after Rachel Ray. Except instead of just food segments, she should do a paired cocktail.

Ehhhh not a fan. Her voice seems different too, did she get voice lessons or something? The sour cream bit went on too long. Good to see a Jason cameo though. Is he going to be like Dr. Phil’s wife and be in the audience all the time?

@Annie, exactly, she shills cocktails. But not everyone likes tequila, so she should do some varied cocktail creations…or just discuss drinks for certain dishes, ginger-infused sake for sushi dishes, or a vodka cocktail mixed with fresh fruit, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a splash of seltzer to accompany a light appetizer of cucumber sandwiches and other cool summer treats.

Who wants to hire me? I do weddings, bar mitzvahs, Jersey christenings…

    “I, I, me, me”.

    Betheny in a nutshell.

Just what we need, another useless talk show in a sea of useless talk shows.

She needs to find a format and stick to it. It seems like she was trying 5 different formats to see what stuck. I liked the idea of the cocktail hour, but I don’t know if that’ll vibe with housewives (ha!) at home during the day. Who knows. She looked infinitely nervous and her sad dance in the beginning of the show was NOTHING like Ellen’s boogie down, which I appreciate much much more. Seems more genuine and with more rhythm.

Meh. I’ve been off the Bethenny bandwagon for a while so I may not be best judge. I don’t watch a lot of talk shows either but it seems kind of generic and all over the place. The beauty tip segment was good for the most part but too schticky.

She might find her groove and have a really great show. But I can’t see it lasting very long.

@kczar…it was ironic that she was demonstrating at home beauty products when she just came out with her own line….nothing quite like shootin’ yourself in the foot…..

Is there anything she’s NOT selling? Remember when she was all passionate about cooking? That was her LIFE! And then all the self-promotion was all in the service of getting Skinny Girl out there? Now it’s obvious that everything has been in the service of getting and keeping Bethenny out there. I feel like such a sucker for ever having liked her.

    “’I, I, me, me’. . . Betheny in a nutshell.”

There is more to her than that. There’s “My Brand. My Brand. My Brand.” There’s “My books. My books.” There’s “My shows. My shows. My shows.” There’s the empowerment of women to have a Skinny Girl Margarita™ ANY time of the day or night. Did you know that Skinny Girl Margaritas™ make a deeelicious and nutritious low-cal breakfast? It’s true.

I still don’t understand know who this is.

I do know that here in the Philadelphia region, I’ve been bombarded with non-stop radio spots urging me to grab the opportunity to meet her at some drinks thing sponsored (I believe) by Comcast. I finally Googled her and my first thought was “Yikes! Cryptkeeper!” Who she is or what she did to get a show… not that interested.

Well, I see a niche market in the post-partum depression crowd.

And the bipolar crowd. And the ADHD crowd. And the megalomania crowd…

I think she may have overbranded herself with that skinny girl swill. Look at the comments even just here. She’s got a (kinda) generic talk show about all kinds of chick stuff, and everybody just says “she should do something about drinks!”

I’d completely forgotten she used to be into cooking.

I don’t think reality show stars have demonstrated any staying power. They’re hot for a short length of time, then they fade out of the zeitgeist. Most of them don’t even get to the short-lived talk show stage. I suppose hats off to the crazy bitchcake for being as successful as she is, but I don’t think she’s going to go much farther.

OMG that girl NEVER shuts up long enough to let anyone else talk! She just bulldozes over her guests kinda like she does with her husband and everyone else. I am NOT a fan do we really need another talk show in the same boring format? At least RR does alot of cooking segments and stuff that keeps me interested. She is just too obnoxious for me to be able to watch…now the new Kathy Griffin show on the other hand…she is a freakin scream! She did a bit on Kim Z wedding that was priceless…now she has a grip on how a show should be!

I watched a bit one day and couldn’t take how she talks over her guests!! It becomes all about Bethenny within 30 seconds of a guest starting to speak. It quickly shifts to being all about her, either her brand or some silly story from her past! She needs to realize that this is different from Bravo. I sure hope the producers tell her to shut up for a few minutes if they want this mess to last. She also seemed very nervous in the opening segment.

I enjoyed it!!! I mean it was her first show and Bethanny has never done this before. I say cut her some slack and let her find her way!!! Nobody starts off perfect!!! I hate it cause we aren’t getting it in Austin!!!!

Lets start out by saying I love Bethenny on Bravo. I also love Kathy Griffen’s Bravo standup comedy shows (this comes into play in a bit).

I don’t have DVR so I have to watch clips of Bethenny’s new talk show on her site. I feel like she’s trying too hard. Her face looks different/weird on the show and I’m thinking it’s from the fact that she always has a HUGE, sometimes fakish, grin on her face. And I HATE how she steamrolls over her guests. You had these people on for a reason, let them talk a bit! She is crazy gal, but it was pleasant to watch on her Bravo reality shows, not so much on this talk show.

So last night I watched Kathy Griffen’s new talk show. It was the same thing as Bethenny. The second Kathy finished a comment/question to the guests she plastered this huge, fake grin on her face. What’s up with that? And like Bethenny, she can’t seem to stop talking over her guests.

I hope both of them are able to get past these things.
