Michelle Duggar and her husband Jim Bob from TLC‘s 19 Kids and Counting announced today that they’re having another baby. Yes, that means 20 kids! I love how happy they all seem….Personally, I’d jump off a bridge!

Here’s their big announcement:

About

Although comedy is her profession, Nadine has accomplished a lot in her young age. She is a national champion black belt, a world-class soccer player, and an avid snowboarder. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, and continued playing through college where she majored in Biology, but quickly realized her destiny was to tell jokes, not to wear a lab coat. So she decided to be funny while finishing her Bachelors Degree in biology and continued on to get her M.B.A. Nadine’s comedy style is much like her athleticism, fearless. She’s made her way up the comedy ladder very quickly, and has become a club favorite at many of the country’s top comedy clubs, including the Improv chain. Performing in the Boston Comedy Festival and being noted as the “one of the youngest and brightest up and comers” and traveling to the Middle East to entertain the troops are just a few of her notable accomplishments. These days Nadine splits time between the stage, a radio studio, her computer blogging, and a television studio. Nadine’s TV, Radio, Writing credits include: national commercials, talking head roles on E! Entertainment, Showtime’s Hot Tamales Live, The Skinny: Fat Free News, The Sunny Side of The Truth: Real World Hollywood, TVgasm, Zazreport, Daddy’s Girls, Jerseylicious, celebrity interviews on Mania TV, a weekly half-hour television show that syndicates to colleges across the country for National Lampoon and a nightly radio show on XM Satellite Radio.

Wow, 7 billion people on the planet and these people don’t want to have an “odd number” of kids. And the last one spent months in the hospital because it was premature – learn anything? These people are morons. I can only hope they start placing their kids in pageants on Toddlers & Tiaras!

Are you f’in kidding me?! I don’t care how much they love each other and love children but f’in stop already. It must be taking a huge toll on her body. I’m surprise her uterus can take another pregnancy and he shouldn’t expect her to keep on having kids. When are they going to stop…when it kills her? Seriously?! It’s not like we’re back in the 1800′s and there’s a high infant mortality rate or they need a lot of kids to tend the farm. Seriously?!

Agreed, 2mcuhbravo. Duggars: Stop already. Just because you CAN have children, doesn’t mean you SHOULD continue. This family disgusts me. I read once they do not use any method of birth control (obviously), but 20 children? Come on.

I agree with everyone. I guess they haven’t read the news about the whole overpopulation/running out of resources thingee going on. Well, they’ll be a good start for the Soylent Green product brand – maybe they could have some Kardashian pudding cups?

It’s a uterus…..not a clown car. These backwards idiots obviously have no sense of social responsibility…..the world’s resources are limited yet they have nothing better to do than pop out babies that the older girls are required to raise. The girls are also responsible for the laundry and housework- and not sent to college although the boys have this option. These parents are nothing to celebrate…..

@2muchbravo Yes that’s exactly what they’ll do because their religion is that God made women’s bodies to be a living sacrifice and just to have as many babies as they can and practice wifely submission.

It’s called Quiverfull. Andrea Yates was one.

You can google around. Lots of them have blogs and stuff you can read. Most of them say they’re not racists but just think there aren’t enough white people so they’re concerned about the future supply.

I just read that the Duggars are members of a Christian cult called the Quiver Full Movement and the idea is to have as many children (arrows) as possible to arm yourself against your enemies. This name comes from Psalm 127: “Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.”

And you guys just thought they liked sex!

Furthermore, this movement seeks to outlaw birth control and Jim Bob was a state legislator, I believe, so they are entering politics and arming themselves with as many voters as possible. Their founder, Mary Pride, said, “Family Planning is the mother of abortion.” Whoa.

    Interesting article: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2009/03/16/extreme-motherhood.html

I agree with all of you. I don’t get why they want so many! One of the kids had a kid, so why not try to be a loving grandparent?? Well, I guess she can’t bc she’s still raising the younger ones, but I have no idea why they’re okay with 20 kids.

While I do feel sorry for the wife, and the toll that multiple pregnacies are taking on her body, I still admire the fact that they are raising all these kids on there own without a state welfare handout or foodstamps. I say let them have has many kids as they want as long as its not on MY dime.

@kittkatt: That is also part of the Quiverfull Movement. That a woman cannot use birth control and also cannot use state aid, which while noble, has resulted in many families being destitute. And because they believe the man is the head of the household, as long as he keeps reaching for his wife in the dark, she will keep having children she can barely feed.

This is incredibly selfish, given that the earth is already overpopulated and there are countless children without homes or parents. I can understand wanting to pass on your DNA, but 20 times? If you can support that many kids why not use those resources to help already-existing kids in need? They’re free to do what they want, of course, but I don’t respect their decision.

I don’t get how her reproductive system can keep going. My three children were delivered via c-section and my doctor told me on the last one that I shouldn’t have any more because my uterus was really thin. Maybe they just put a zipper in.

J for Jesus! Nah, kidding, I don’t know what the J names are all about. Seriously, though, until the last one or two kids, the Mom looked terrific.

One of the few times I caught a few moments of this show, back when it began, Michelle Duggar was home school reading to her kids from a children’s book about Joseph Smith. So maybe the Quiverfull cult draws is doctrine from Mormon teachings. But it was certainly a click-off-the-telly moment.

I remember that in that episode Jim Bob (the Dad) said how many kids they had was up to Michelle, that he deferred to her on that. So who knows? Freaks between the sheets? Maybe…

I read on another site that the boys are encouraged to go to college but the girls are not. I presume so that they can get married and pop out more babies. My concern is that none of those girls will reach their full potential. As all the girls grow up they are missing out on social opportunities from being home schooled such as being involved in school activities like cheerleading, drama, music and sport. One or more of the girls could be a maths whiz or a great dancer for example but those talents will never be discovered and even if they were the resources and the encouragement to go to college and utilise those talents isn’t there.

I just watched tonight’s interview show and they are saying that the world being overpopulated is a myth. I think he said it’s because Arkansas has a lot of wide open spaces and that the entire population of the world can fit in the square mileage of Jacksonville, FL.

Say what? How many people’s shoulders will I have to stand on for all of us to fit?

This crew is crazy! I’m dying to know what Mom does when all we see are the big girls taking care of the kids, the food, the cleaning, the laundry, etc. And poor Grandma Duggar – when they showed the announcement, Grandma didn’t seem to happy. Probably because she knew that would add 2 more loads of laundry a day to her workload.

Wow, so much hate. Bottom line: it’s not any of your damn business what these people do. One more Duggar isn’t going to bankrupt the world. If I’m not allowed to judge a woman who gets 20 abortions because she’s too stupid to buy condoms or go on birth control, then you’re not allowed to judge this woman who CHOOSES to have 20 children. If they can do it and they can afford it, then by all means they should do it. I don’t think it’s particularly smart myself, but I think you guys are gigantic jackasses for telling these people what they can and can’t do.

@Chicken Lips LOL Poor old Granny Duggar just about lives down in their home laundromat!

@bluedog Watching their show and reading about them I’ve thought about that so much!

I don’t know if this is even the right place to say this and @saffie might call me a jackass but the idea that God made women just to obey their husbands and so our bodies can be a living sacrifice to having babies nonstop is even scarier to me than the 1s that are worried that in the future there won’t be enough white people to go around.

At least that’s just some of them.

It’s more of a movement than a regular religion with an organization etc so their actual religion and other beliefs and stuff are all different but the wifely submission and living sacrifice thing is their #1 basic belief so they ALL believe that!

Another thing that almost all of them do is have very limited contact with the outside world. Like they’ll only watch religious DVDs. And set their computers up so they can only go to websites about their religion. Like homeschool sites that teach only according to their beliefs.

So there’s all these kids being taught not only about women being a living sacrifice but also stuff like overpopulation is a myth and the world is 6000 yrs old and not as an allegory or that it’s just their faith but the only true fact thinking anything else is a sin.

The Duggars have turned into their poster family but at least because being on the show the girls have at least some chance to be exposed to other people.

Some Quiverfulls don’t watch the show because it’s on TV which is evil.

They get taught that the Duggars are making the sacrifice of a TV show ministry and God gave them protection from the evil of worldly influence and permission to get crunchy perms and use hair product and even makeup etc (Granny uses hair color and some of them may have gotten highlights) and even saved Josie to convince more families to turn into Quiverfulls.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to write a book. And I didn’t even get to the part about tater tot casserole…

I personally can’t summon much hate for the Duggars. They kinda like a large herd of Labrador Retrievers: big, loud, friendly, and dumb. I was leaning toward the “it’s not hurting me, so I guess they can populate their own zip code if they want to” position, but I am disturbed that they think overpopulation is a myth. I’m sure they don’t believe in global warming, either. Whatever your reason–god, a mistrust of science, Exxon/Mobil’s contribution to your campaign–that’s just burying your head in the sand. Maybe today, you can feed a family of 22, in America, but you can’t do it in Africa. That fact alone ought to tell them something’s wrong, shouldn’t it?

On a shallower note, I still say Michelle Duggar is the most vacuous interviewee I’ve ever heard. “Sandwiches are a really great choice when you have to feed a lot of people.” Really? Bravo PAID ACTUAL MONEY to film her saying that? Jesus, Mary, and baby daddy Joseph!

And everytime Jim Bob gets the family together to make a special announcement, you know the kids are like “If he doesn’t say ‘We’re getting a new puppy’, I’m going to start heckling from the back.”

Saffle: people are expressing their opinions. No one is telling the Duggars what to do. It is ironic that you castigate those for their strong opinions by being equally contemptuous. It is a show and that is what folks do here.

Why is it that every now and again at the Gasm people get on their soap boxes and scream that ‘we’ aren’t allowed to comment on what’s up for discussion on the boards; in whatever manner we choose? SMH

This is a BLOG. No, this is a thread on a BLOG in which the purpose is to comment, banter, snark, agree, disagree, wax poetic about the topics du jour. And, it being a free country and all, we can all say whatever the hell we want.

Saffie, please dear I beg you, Simmah Don-nah before you hurt yourself. It’s just a thread on a blog about some cult maniacs who are over populating the planet through a woman who has the glazed over look of a Hailbop devotee. What’s the big deal?

If they MUST have more children, could they maybe consider adopting instead of overpopulating our planet and risking Michelle’s health more and more with each birth? The Quiverfull Movement is a nice touch; a leap back into the dark ages where women died of childbirth and complications having a sixth, seventh or eighth child at age 30. Please take these ridiculous people off TV before their influence spreads further.

@bluedog – they don’t believe girls have potential for *anything* other than popping out babies and obeying their husbands. (Which I feel is unfortunate.) And they certainly would not be allowed to participate in such an evil activity as DANCING!!! I really wonder how they justify appearing on satan’s medium, television.

As to the statement that Quiverfull believers aren’t to use state aid, do they really expect us to believe that Jim Bob’s health insurance footed all of the medical bills for the care of Josie?
